    Styrene modeling looked very fun when I saw some other makers using it. I really enjoyed Adam Savage’s videos on the topic and wanted to give this a try for myself, focusing on building some scale models for my tabletop wargaming on Warhammer 40k, Necromunda or Kill Team.
    This material lets you put out an insane amount of detail into a really small space. Your only limitation is your patience and eyesight.
    While this is not as big as some of my other terrain builds, it's absolutely the most detailed. I managed to complete the full thing in just two evenings, including painting.

    Thanks to my friend BeardClipper for the tips on using plastic glue: • Do NOT use super glue ...
    Thanks to my friend Mitch for the stippling technique: • Video
    Excellent videos on the subject from Adam Savage:

    EDIT: Thanks to one of my commenters below for their suggestion, I cut out the styrene behind the screens to let more of the LED light shine through. Take a look at the results: imgur.com/a/d3AgqPU

    Fantastic build. This gave me the idea of possibly slotting the screens in so someone could just slide them in/out as needed, also maybe a switch to change to a different bank of leds with a different color. Change it to red if someone fails a hacking skill check. So many jumping points from this, thanks!

    • @KnarbMakes
      @KnarbMakes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      OOoooh that would be so cool. There are LEDs that are multi-color I believe. Or you could find a way to embed one of those LED strips that changes colors.

      Happy to give the inspiration. My only gripe with it is it's a lot more expensive than foam and chipboard. I don't think I would build anything bigger than a few inches across with it! Unless I can source a cheaper supplier, that is.

    For the monitors, if you already used LEDs, why not make luminous screens? You print a color image, there are thousands of images on Google of sci fi monitors, then you laminate that image and stick it to the front of the monitor. The image will not show the LED that is inside, but when you turn them on you will have a bright screen.

    If you're gonna be working with styrene, consider getting some kinda scribing tools. They're what we use for making panel lines in Gunpla. Instead of cutting out the individual keys, you could have carved them into the pla-plate.

    Missed opportunity with the screens, you should have just had the transparent plastic and printed the star-charts on plastic as well making the whites transparent, then your screen would actually shine from the LEDs

    • @KnarbMakes
