    Epic build

  • @meanderingshade
    @meanderingshade 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    This project is a pure example of how a solution can be so simple it's easy to overlook.
    I've had some of those packing inserts in my terrain stash for over a year, I'd get them out from time to time to look them over and be like:
    "Well, I like the smoother texture inside, maybe I can build up around the edges with polystyrene foam or foam-core and make it into a bigger building or open septic tank/chemical pool?"
    And then just put them away again and move on to something else.
    The moment I got to you saying: "...Chopping them up into several pieces..."
    Me: "Oh bloody hell! How did that thought never cross my mind even once!?!"
    This is an awesome build man, really enjoying your videos. Keep up the great work, thank you for that unintended mental prod and take care ;)

  • @RichardHaywardMelbourne

    This terrain is perfect as a result of the ingenious use of random materials, and the painstaking series of processes used to construct and dress the structures. I love the idea of using such varied materials, but I can only really see myself doing a very basic imitation of this ... using a lot more spackle to not just hide mistakes but to create the surface which I hadn't created by any other means!

    Very impressive results! Love the custom paneling and greebles - they came together very well on these pieces. I for one would love to see a video focusing on your process and thinking when detailing, as it’s an area where I struggle to achieve balanced results.
    Also a question about those mesh tape walkways without a solid backing - do they hold up to use in games? The tape I have definitely would not...

    • @KnarbMakes
      @KnarbMakes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah I can try to tackle that in a future video.
      The mesh tape is sandwiched between two coffee stir sticks with hot glue, so its pretty taut. As long as you don't stab into it and your friends aren't gorillas, it should hold up fine.

    @throst8515 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi there. Video is well done, your work on the packaging is good as it does not look juste like a tray that has be converted to terrain. So thumb up to you for that.
    My main issue here is that... this kind of terrain is imo unusable for 40k. It's too big, not flat enough, and not adapted to the game mechanics. Try to fit a squad inside or even bworse : try multi-close combat inside this kind of terrain and you will live a pure nightmare.
    So congrats for your work, I truly promote re-using what would go to waste but sadly, this kind of "base shape" is not adapted for the game. One of the rare items that can be of use are the small food plastic boxes, that are just small enough (like 3" high max) but usually have the issue to be quite fragile and difficult to paint (basecoat does not hold on it).

    • @KnarbMakes
      @KnarbMakes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have to admit, I'm still a novice when it comes to actually playing 40K, so it may not be an ideal piece of terrain in regards to game rules. I think the piece can still have some use as LOS blocking or as a centerpiece to navigate around. Couple this with some walkways and you can actually get some decent surface area on top.
      For base coating the plastic food boxes, try lightly sanding them and then apply some thin coats of spray-on rattle can primer. Let it dry and you should have a good base layer.
