Rode and competed for 14 years. I do miss my horse, but the memories are what's important now. Best advice i can give is wear a helmet, keep you heels down, and tight knees will keep you planted if the ride goes south.
Definitely helmets for all and wear it each time you ride. 👍🏻
Really love your channel. And not being negative at all. I'm very happy for you guys. But wanted to say something only because it wasn't mentioned. Please always get a vet check on a horse before buying. No matter how much of a friend. Can't wait to see what's to come 😊
since a horse is considered an exotic animal, i hope they can find a vet in their area for it. so many vets don't treat certain animals even though they are trained in doing so 😭😭 i wish i had a horse but i'd hate the upkeep
More the concern is they haven't got a confirmed age from the original owner (They said the owner disagrees with the branding age?)... meaning the horse has probably never seen a dentist or vet???
@@andreabyrne6527no one was around to see her be born. Her parents were wild horses. The Bureau of Land Management handle lots of wild horses and can only make educated guesses when it comes to some things. Plus ageing a horse is tricky.

I think it would like a friend they are herd animals or get a donkey that is the min a donkey but the pest is a horse for it lol
From someone who's done alot of horsemanship from Australia if you watch how she changes the way she strides from eli as each kid gets smaller you got an amazing loving horse who is being very gentle with each step as the kids take turns big smiles all round. To have all the animals you have and to take pride and the highest level of care possible you guys were born to be on the farm amazing watching your journey! Can't wait for the Avery ❤

I wish the best for your family Becky. You and Jake are soulmates with 4 gorgeous and most importantly healthy, happy 😊 children. You have worked so hard for everything you have. You have literally done all of the labor yourselves. Which not only saves tons of money but also gives you all hands on experience with each build and project. Really happy for you guys, big step getting your own horse and glad you got what seems like a very sweet and gentle mare! I would like to recommend, as someone who's sustained major injury riding myself, that you look into helmets at least for your kiddos. I know it doesn't seem as fun to ride with one but you only have to fall about 3 feet to sustain brain damage, and no matter how safe your horse is accidents happen. Best wishes

please consider wearing a helmet - if not for the adults, at least for the kiddos. Even the best horse is capable of spooking, and even the best rider can make an error. helmets help to prevent incredibly preventable death or injury.
You'd never know by the way Holiday acts that she was once a wild horse! Her previous owner did an excellent job of taming her.
I watch your videos since years and please let me stress out, that I really enjoy your approach to the many new endeavours you undertake.
As someone with 30+ years of experience in the horse world, I really appreciated that you addressed the issue with a single horse at the end of the video, and that you do not intend to keep her alone for very long.
With what I will to say, please do not think that I want to "belittle" you or anything similar, I just wanted to share my point of view: in the country where I live (over in Europe), having a horse on it's own is forbidden by federal law as it is regarded as cruelty against animals (and it is punished with quite a hefty fine and, if repeated you can even face prison). I just wanted to let you know this, to maybe give you another perspective on the question of when to get additional horses. There are many different views all over the world on the same topics - and as someone who is obviously eager to learn, as your family prove in the video, but still at the beginning of your shared path with horses, getting new perspectives might be something crucial, when thinking about WHEN exactly you will take the next steps and get at least one other horse on the farm :)

Yes that's what I thought too, it would be a great opportunity to give a senior or blind horse a home 😊 They could check out horse plus humane society they are always searching for some good homes for blind and elderly horses, mules or donkeys
Please please please, get that horse some herd mates, without them they can become depressed or stressed out, and please don't let more then one person ride at a time, for the comfort of the horse, love you guys so much, keep up the awesome work❤

I grew up riding horses, my grandpa was a horse rancher, there is no better way to grow up! Horses are amazing animals and the connection between a horse and their human is unmatched, Congratulations Becky!! What an amazing dream to have come true ❤❤

Horses are such a wonderful part of a farm. We have had horses for 30 plus years and they become part of the family. When the oldest one we had passed away it was like loosing a best friend. They are amazing animals and for me they make the best secret keepers for teenage girls. Loosing BJ was hard for me and my brother we both cried.. both of us were over 40.
Make sure the kids know not to get behind a horse cause they can kick when you least expect it. She is a beautiful horse 🐎 😍 ❤️

glad for the family! congrats! My only concern is that the family doggo is roaming so near the horse, particularly around the rear legs. I know she seems pretty tamed but she's basically in a new zone, with people she hasn't been around for long. So many things can happen you know? I would suggest at least keeping the dog tied up when you're letting the kids ride her , just until until she's spent more time getting used to you guys and the farm.

Congratulations on the horse but please please get those kids some helmets. At least look up the data on equine accidents with helmets before you let them ride without one. I’m not trying to hate just want to make sure the kids are safe.

Although I definitely agree, you're more likely to break your neck than suffer a head injury. If you hit your head hard enough to injure your brain, your neck is pretty much toast, especially from that height/angle.
She has such a beautiful tail! You can see the previous owner took fabulous care of her!

Edit: Holiday won't be lonely as long as she gets plenty of attention from her new family. Horses feel secure with a herd. You can fill in for now until you add to it. If you're worried about that, horses often enjoy goat and chicken company when they're alone.
Donkeys also make a great addition to a farm and as a bonus, they protect EVERYONE from predators. If you think roosters are to be reckoned with when they're protecting hens, just watch a donkey protect an entire farm.
It's so obvious that your dad had a ball working with his grandkids. The bond between grandparent and grandchild is so very very special. I have a 5-year-old grandson who lives with us. He loves helping take care of our chickens. The only problem I'm having is that he gets so excited around the girls that he tends to spook them a little. We'll get there - he loves them so much.
You know goats do really well with the horse,my neighbor had one for years,lived at the barn,they loved each other😁

Congratulations on getting your horse! My Daddy leased a Morgan pony/horse Magic, when I was young and at 50 yrs old I bought a 2 yr old half Spotted saddlebred and Walking horse, Tucker. I love her and she was a gift from my Mama. We Had her until 2017. I’m 70 now and had too many health issues to keep her. I know you all will have a fabulous time with her and love her. I found your channel about 3 weeks ago, I have been binge watching from start till now, I have watched and read some of the comments, I am a vegan, due to medical issues, I was a vegetarian due to a bad experience when I was young, but I do understand the necessity of trying to protect your farm from outside predators and I respect the way you have done that, and I understand that raising your own animals for food, the way you do that is humane, I have enjoyed watching your family grow and how respectful and kind they are, I am looking forward to watching them grow, also looking forward to more videos,

You sure picked a beautiful horse… brings back lots of fond memories! Spending summers at my grandmothers English riding summer camp for girls.
As one of the two boys spending time there, aside from the farm hands, we were given various jobs like mucking out the stalls, rubbing down the horses & cleaning tack. I swear I can still smell the feed, hay, & manure. The surprise of learning that I like to snack on those alpha pellets, or collecting hoof trimmings as treats for the dogs…
My favorite moments were simply spending time with the horses out in the pastures, giving them time to get to know us. Luring the horses close with apples or fresh green grass… How funny their lips feel when they are figuring out which of our pockets I hid the pieces of apple in. :-) Brushing out manes and tails so we could braid them.
I always liked spending on time around the horses. Even if I was mucking out the stalls, cleaning tack or trying to move full bales of hay ( it took both of us). Have Fun!

Very cool guys. You’ll be able to do trail rides and other fun now. Also remember to wear a helmet when riding, I’d hate for any of you to get injured. That’s what I’ve always been told. ❤

Happy for her! They are my dream animal as well and I got my first one when I turned 40. That was 22 years ago. I ended up having as many as 25 at one time, mostly rescues. Ive had to back down the last couple years because we are raising 4 grandchildren, a one year old, two year old, 15 and 17. Mom is in jail die to drugs and refuses to get her life together! I now have 8 horses. Two of those I've had for 22 years. If you're a true horse person, they are in your blood. I love them.
I’m happy for you! We just started our Foundation Morgan breeding program. My husband has dreamed of this since he was 12. It’s always wonderful to see people have their dreams fulfilled.

One other thing, when I was 5to6 years old my family had horses. My mom had a horse, my sister and lastly my dad bout me my own Shetland pony and I named her Gypsy. My dad had built a barn in our local stables and we kept our horses there. At one point she was staying in our back yard and would be waiting for me at the gate every day by the gate just carrying on. One day my 16 yr old sister decided to try to ride my horse. When she sat on him, her tip toes could barely reach the ground. Gypsy immediately started bucking like a bronco and reaches back and bit her shin pretty bad. After that's when the session was made to rehome her. So you see Becky and I had similar dreams.
I'm feeling pretty green right now. Bucket list stuff for sure right there. 😊

9:11 ❗️PLEASE , tie your rope halter high on the horses nose, the bottom there is a very delicate part of a horses skull and can actually snap if the horse were to spook and halter tightened on the nose! ❗️

Oh wow! A mustang! Our trainer has two BLM’s over here in the UK, and we have a Spanish Mustang from America, we go to the Mustang Makeover Germany every year! She looks so sweet, very well gentled for a wildie 💕
Always good for everyone in the horse community to remember that we all have different perspectives on what’s right and what’s safe and it’s not our place to project those opinions onto these guys. They have their own good mentors clearly and don’t need too many cooks in the kitchen.
