It's Raining - Darts

- one of the biggest selling Darts singles was written by vocalist Griff Fender. If I remember well, it was prevented from reaching no 1 by 3 times a lady by the commodores and then dreadlock holiday by 10CC. 1978 was a competitive year with massive singles sales throughout.
I drive my partner nuts by often saying "Oh, I love this song" in response to various golden oldies from the 60's-80's but I've decided this is my official favourite song of all time. It's got everything - great tune, great lyrics, and Bob Fish's wonderful vocals. I don't think Darts ever got the recognition they deserved for their talents - perhaps because they looked a bit odd - but they were fantastic. I was 14 when this came out - happy memories...
This is my all time fav Dartsong. I fell totally in love with Bob through this song.
GGGGreat to see DARTS back on youtube... gonna check out the rest...
Cheers toulousedart!
Brings back so many memories. Those were the best years.
Early part of last year my brother was in hospital for diabetes this helps me get through a difficult periods of my life.
Love this song
Adore this song soo much !! Such fond memories of being in 4th year senior school best days of our lives but we did not know this then, sadly :(
can you imagine Darts auditioning for X Factor, wouldn't stand a chance. This was when talent was judged on talent and not looks, thank God for youtube to relive those fantastic voices and personalities!
i am sorry to disagree but I have never seen any girl with the looks and stage presence of Rita Ray on X factor. Rita has legs to die for and such a mover too.Of all the the average wanabees on xfactor (that means all of them) none of them could hold a candle to her sex appeal. Rita would simply blow them all away.
Jules I have to disagree. I have yet to see a babe on X factor who could hold a candle to Rita, for sheer hotness what a babe, what a mover, If it's about sexiness for me she wins the game and she was only one element of Darts just listen those harmonies, musical brilliance to me ?.
Roger Jones I've read this back over three times now - seems to me that you and Jules are in agreement with each other surely? I certainly think Darts- and Rita Ray- were dynamite, and you would be very hard pushed to find anything comparable to them today, certainly in the mainstream. As appalling as I find 'X-Factor' the programme (OK, 'Show' if you prefer), there is talent on there alright; but the 'X' factor is surely the one thing it sorely lacks?
I think Channel 4/5 should do a programme tracing the members of Darts and get them back performing again, I would pay top dollar to see them!
Good Memories.. Thanks
Class songs
Only a small handful of tickets left to see DARTS on Sat 12 July at The 100 Club, London.

It's raining, raining down on me, yeah (uh-uh-uh)
I'm drowning, I'm drowning in misery, yeah (uh-uh-uh)
I'm thinking that now I'm alone (uh-uh-uh)
I just want to be going home (uh-uh-uh)
I wish you were by me to hold me (dede-dum-dede)
And help me pull through
Girl, I'm crying, crying out to you (uh-uh-uh)
And I'm hoping, hoping I'm getting through (uh-uh-uh)
I've never been feeling so low (uh-uh-uh)
But I can't let my pain ever show (uh-uh-uh)
But from your eyes (uh-uh)
I have to hide these feelings inside (uh-uh-uh-oh)
That's why I'm crying
Tadada-tadada-tadada
Tadada-tada-tada-ohah
That's why I'm saying
It's raining, I'm crying, I'm sinking, I'm dying
It's raining, I'm crying, I'm sinking, I'm dying
Oh, I'm sinking, I'm sinking in the crowd (dede-dum-dede)
Sinking in the crowd (dede-dum-dede)
I'm praying (dede-dum-dede)
I'm praying out loud (dede-dum-dede)
I'm praying out loud
Will this ache in my soul ever cease?
Ache in my soul ever cease
Can I sleep and find myself some peace
Find myself some peace
Outside I play cool
But inside I'm hurting for you
(Uh, mamama) Oh, darlin'
Outside I play cool
But inside I'm hurting for you
Oh-oh-oh, oh, little darling (dede-dum-dede)
I'm dying inside (dede-dum-dede)
Oh, I'm thinking about you, yeah (dede-dum-dede)
My my my my my my my my, little girl (dede-dum-dede)
Uhh
I want you by my side

Great band, and Kenny and Den were brilliant, but who is the best lead singer? Griff, Bob or Rita?...... Bob Fish for me, just.
You're thinking of Vila in Blakes 7, played by Michael Keating.
first album i bought ( along with tight fit , but dont judge me , cos i had a thing for denise gyngel ) was aceeeeee
The kings (and queen) of doo-wop.
i wish i cold see them live at afestival T next year ?

Darts and their many vocalists, their harmonies, their music and their humour will be appreciated for decades to come by new fans. Legends never die!
darts, such a talented but underated group thanks for the upload.
reminds me of my summer holiday in 1978...simpler times...

Once again - a classic from DARTS that I always come back to.

Mother in law mentioned this band, never heard of them so had a Google... Brilliant, can't believe they aren't more well known. Better that some of the rubbish that's rammed down our necks.
Memories, sooo many memories and I miss them all...!!!!
great song
Absolutely love Darts
brilliant band utter superb
It was only stopped by the Commodores as it was no. 2 for only one week. It was the biggest selling single.
pure class-I still remember aall the words after all these years. thankyou for posting
First album I ever bought. Amazing Darts. Played this song over and over and over. 35 + years ago and still loving it! " Outside I'm grapefruit but inside I'm ready for you".
loved this tune from first hearing in abt 78. so well written and performed, loved the 'square' dance they did to this.
great to sing too.
awesome best memories of this group ,i miss this time
Amazing band. The could tug your heartstrings like this on the A side, and then have you crying with laughing at Messing Shoes Blues on the flip. Class act.
Love this x
Saw then years ago at a Radio 1 road show - wicked!!!!!
Saw these live at lampton park Hounslow in the 80s - it was a free concert , brilliant band .
Griffith yes I was lucky ,the gig was only spoilt by drunken idiots fighting in the crowd ,still can’t take away from the enjoyment!
Wonderful song, and one that was actually written buy them too. Great video, I remember that TOTP performance, thanks
Yes, anything Darts did seemed to be pretty magical, they just seemed to have a way of making things come alive!
Hello doowop, after a lot of checking it turns out it's nonsense - caused only by the fact that Michael "Vila" Keating and Bob Fish had a passing resemblance, and that they were on television at the same sort of time!!! Ludicrous!
I've read on the net that the lead singer here also played one of the leading roles in Blakes' 7, which would have started the same year as this, as far as I can tell. Is this correct or just an urban myth?
classic forgotten band,brilliant track
I woke up this morning to the sound of raindrops hitting my window, and for some reason this intro came straight into my head. No idea why. I thought it was from a Motown track, but on Googling it I found it was Darts! Ah, the vagaries of the human memory!
all of them had really good voices, and then you get the shit that comes out of X factor, dos'nt make sence does it
fabulas..does anyone remeber the xams no1 they had all dressed as snowmen
more so...does anyone have a copy
Great song! But what about a 16 year old Tony Blackburn introducing it on TOTP?
This lot look like such good fun, apart from the singer who looks like he's right up himself
Grif fender awesome
I always have your songs on the Monday night coming home from my club
Poor sound quality. It sounds as if it were recorded it the rain.
Gery it it wrong outside I play cool but inside im hurtin for you
The guitarist looks like Richard Madeley.

Couldnt agree more mike smith lol
brilliant
My favourite song ever
My fav darts single
Ik vind een goed nummer
Loved the girl
the xmas song was white christmas and it only made the lower reaches of the charts (no 43 I think). I have a copy of the video but it is of poor quality and not complete. I'll have another look at it as it is crazy!
yeah...fuckin' A!
This song also got to #2 on the a Irish Singles Chart.
Brilliant
why is richard madeley playing bass?
Its a re run of totp from around 20 yrs ago recorded on vhs so what do you expect!! have a look at seventh heaven channel where there is a much better recording
luv it
and me
Always loved this song ,if a Mowtown group had done it ,it would be considered a classic but the Darts had a great soulful sound as well as their more 50,s doo wop stuff.Probally their greatest moment
how fabulous is this... i adored darts in my youth...... happyer times in the 70s eh? :).... you sorta get lost in the music.. and you dont wanna come back :)
@mrrocknrolluk
I also saw them at Mallory park in the late 70's. It was a Radio One day out. It was fab. I saw them all over the country. Could not get enough of them. Wish they were still touring like some of the other groups of their era.
aint heard this in years omg
Want to see them perform this live... well you can, Darts are doing another gig at The 100 Club. Oxford St, London - 12 July (next day (13th) at The Americana Festival, Notts).
I went to the ones last Nov & Dec and they were awsome! Still got the famous tight harmonies and the band were 'amazing'. The gigs were all sold out so don't delay if you want a ticket - book now!
See.... 'amazingdarts' site for more info!
Oh yeah - Den is still MAD!!!
I saw Darts at Mallory Park at a Radio One day out in the late 70's. I used to go to all their concerts. Saw them at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon, Hammersmith Odeon 2 nights on the trot and other places that I can't remember now. Absolutely fab band wish they were still touring now. Oh what memories
Amazing Darts.. My first album purchase at 10yrs old.

George Currie (guitarist) looks like Richard Madeley.
@toulousedart This has to be wellover 30 years old I remember it from when I lived in uk and left in 1979
Johnny Boy was captivated by this...a cult song from the 70s. Darts were so coooool!!
From exactly 30 years ago this month, and one of the best singles of that year IMHO.
And as I recall, that summer was just as wet as this one!
I Saw Darts live at Bedford in 1984.
totally agree rockpig, I grew up listening to all of this era of music and you cant beat it
One of my songs of all time! first group i seen live! are they still around? let me no id luv to see them again
Motown influenced, certainly. Anyone else noticed similarities between the intro and that of the Temptations' 'My Girl'?
1978. Better quality version on Seventh Heaven page.
the singer looks like the guy from the pet shop boys, chris
"Can't beat a bit of bully"
"Can't beat a bit of darts."
Ok other than winning the lottery ha ha!
Listening to this great group brings back so many happy memories of my mid teens. Wish I was back in that era
It was the last single he appeared on yes.
This is one of my favouries from Darts, still like to listen to them 30 years on.
