Hey everyone, some helpful people have pointed out a few minor errors in the spreadsheet. Which means the target hourly rate in this video should be a little higher than what it was. If you are downloading it after this comment was made then don't worry, they are fixed now so should be accurate numbers. Remember, use this spreadsheet as a simple guide. Best to work with an accountant to work things out exactly.
Such good advice, really hard to find this stuff unless you personally know someone running a business. Thankyou for your efforts in sharing your experience.
Hey mate, Listened to the pod to day and got me thinking what my profit margin was. Did some calculations and worked out that last financial year we had a 40% margin, I knew we were running good but never realized how good. Thanks for the insight, will definitely be looking at this on a 3 monthly basis.
I have literally just launching a new lawn care service and I have no idea what to charge fairly…this is such a good video..as you’re right, I only have the data with these low rates show… Keep up the great work mate👍🏽👍🏽
Thank you so much for making this video! After 5yrs of running my own gardening business, I was beginning to struggle with the financial side but I'm currently rethinking my overall pricing structure and the spreadsheet has really helped highlight the often overlooked billable stuff. I really like the unpatronizing but insightful manner of your approach too. Thanks for the first three podcasts, please make loads more!
wow!!! this is a great eye opener when i get a chance i will do this spreadsheet im thinking my profit margin will be a lot less than i hope once again thanks for these terrific clips to watch mow on lads
Started listening to this pod episode today, realised i wanted to come and watch it on here and follow along with the spreadsheet. Although ive been operating for myself for 7 years, I just started up fresh 12 months ago and i have really been struggling with getting work close to home, my bank accounts are terrible, i have a young family to support which means i often need to work around childcare drop off & pick up. My calculated hourly rate on the spreadsheet was projected at 130p.h and im only charging 80p.h. Im really only doing residential work as the commercial space is challenging to get back into. But my real world expenses from the last financial year, and the forst 6 months of this financial year put me at running costs at 55k, without me drawing any owners drawings. Yes some of those expenses are for personal use (e.g bunnings, officeworks etc) but that amount of money going out sounds extremely high to me. Luke are you offering any personal private support on this topic? New to the podcast, really enjoying it thus far, have signed up to the lawn shed too, and im glad Ashley James also calls a whippy a brushcutter lol
Anything under $75 p/h is not really profitable imo don’t get equipment off the truck for less then $50 Cheap prices leads to cheap customers I feel good when it works out being $100 p/h I never quote the hour also Great video guys! Any Aussie law companies please subscribe to help grow our community ! Lawn care is expanding and I’m so grateful for all the information that’s out there
Gday luke. Ive been running a gardening business for 7 years and ive been ruining myself. Its a hard slog and im a one man band seeming to always be crawling my way through to the next year. My quality is hands down top notch and ive found it difficult trying to see that im worth more. After this video i realised that not only have i been taken advantage of, but i could have been happier in life with stability for years as my quality out does most. Your video is clear as day and i absorbed every word of it. I work in the southern highlands and my hedges and edges are straighter than ever and i work long days. Everyone around seems to be getting ahead but me.. until now you legend. Im going to be downloading the spreadsheet asap. I honestly cant thank you enough. 🙏🤙
Thanks a lot man! I’ve been in the lawn and garden maintenance field for 14 years now and I think it’s time to finally start a business for myself. I was wondering where I can find some info on how to quote a job? I’m really struggling
Made me rethink many things when I was running my small gardening business and how badly I was winging it in my mid 20s , I was charging $65 per hour in my first year. I ended up quitting it and going into electrical distribution as the money is just simply insane 150k-200k per year. Running a small business is truly a hard gig to pull off and just wasn't for me and I respect the hell out of anyone that does it for a living and makes good money. I still love gardening and turf just as a hobby now in my personal time ! Will always be in my blood. Fantastic video for future gardeners and turfies ! Great job !
hourly rates 2013 If u do your BAS statement u understand what your overheads are . I find that 90 percent of customers want to cheap out then think it's the same price whether they ask you to mow two weeks later or two months later, how do you sift down to that small percentage of golden customers?
Just over a week ago I posted resukts of a survey we did of 811 different business. We asked what they charge. That would be good to use as a guide. Have a look at the page and recent uploads to find the video
Sorry for being such a pest mate but I’ve tried to join the Facebook group you always mention in the podcast but I’m not getting through, maybe I’m too new to business?
Soooo goood mate this will kick start my new gardening business,, explained well and im not as dumb as i look thanks to you😂

Sounds like you have a good job, nothing wrong with having lawn care and gardening as a hobby

Hi Luke,
Are you able to share where I can find the spreadsheet? The link in the description isn't working.
@@TheJmart90 Hi mate, try again. There was a temporary problem with the website
@@TheAustralianLawnGardenP-ki2hj legend - thank you! Keep up the great work. I listened to 4 more episodes today 😅
@TheJmart90 wow, that's a lot
Some crews are $300/400 per job/hr charge up
Great information but it's delivered really slowly with a lot of chatter in between key points. Would be great if it was condensed
I find that 90 percent of customers want to cheap out then think it's the same price whether they ask you to mow two weeks later or two months later, how do you sift down to that small percentage of golden customers?
Hi Luke. Awesome videos. May I ask you why the GST is ÷11 and not ÷10? Thanks
If you have GST included in your price dividing by 11 is the correct way to do it
Hey mate, where can i possibly find the excel sheet you are using? Thanks for your guidance. Regarsa Muhammed
Link is in the video description
@@TheAustralianLawnGardenP-ki2hj Your link has stopped working, is there another way to access it?
Hey man how would I use this as someone who has just started out? I don’t have any clients yet but trying to get an idea on what to charge
Just over a week ago I posted resukts of a survey we did of 811 different business. We asked what they charge. That would be good to use as a guide. Have a look at the page and recent uploads to find the video
@@TheAustralianLawnGardenP-ki2hj ok thanks mate
Sorry for being such a pest mate but I’ve tried to join the Facebook group you always mention in the podcast but I’m not getting through, maybe I’m too new to business?
Why doesn't Brett pay tax??
Wow … I aim to earn $180-$200 an hour per. Set prices
Mate, your website is inaccessible at the moment, something to do with security certificate expiring
Fixed now, thanks for pointing that out.
11:39 this is what a university degree teaches you 🤣
A lot of "original" work is just parroting someone else
You had great content but I couldn’t watch it because the sucking noise you kept making into the mic..
I like you dude but way too much rambling
Always too much.
Don't tell us what you're gonna say and waste our time, just say it.
3 minutes in, still rambling on. Please dude. You'll gain a lot of listeners and give far greater value by talking less.
