  • In this video, we walk through a a review of lysosomal storage diseases. These presentations and syndromes are high yield for USMLE exams but many people avoid studying these because they can be confusing and difficult to remember. That's why we cover some simple memory tricks to organize these in your mind and work through practice questions that cover specifically how the NBME tests these concepts.
    Time Stamps:
    0:45 - Practice question
    1:57 - Tay-Sachs vs. Niemann Pick disease
    7:33 - Practice question
9:34 - Gaucher, Krabbe, Metachromatic leukodystrophy, and Fabry disease
11:30 - Hunter vs. Hurler syndrome

Note: The accumulated substrate/enzyme deficiency may seem slightly different between the review image and what I included under each bullet point. The review image generalizes the substrate to the "category" of substrate. For example, "sulfatide" instead of specifically cerebroside sulfate in metachromatic leukodystrophy. Keep this in mind, so the two don't get mixed up. Its best if you commit the specific substrate to memory but the general category can also be helpful to jog your memory!
