When rubber inserts are still in production, I’m courious why LEGO didn’t offer some appendix set in DOTs style blindbag with for example 50 pcs of this rubber inserts for may be 5 EUR? This is reasonable number for buy as much as you need, and offer to TLG way how to optically cut official price of models (because this extra part packs are always more expensive, then insert of same amount into set).
This is probably why I love this set out of all the 2024 technic sets, it's the closest thing to classic pure function packed LEGO Technic sets for a while
This set is a missed opportunity to release new pneumatic tank. It would be cool if excavator had the tank, which could be "recharged" via connecting with pneumo hose to the charging box with pump.
Your reviews are the like the Best Moments recaps from games. I don’t know anyone that does such a good summary of the best moments of the building process. It’s great!
In itself seems like a perfectly decent set. But then I think back to the Arocs. Which offered a much more impressive build, Power Functions, double the Pneumatic functions, and over 500 more pieces, all at the same prices. And sure, that was 9 years ago and inflation and stuff, but it still makes me feel a bit sad looking at this... Oh, and those two bucket pieces......at this price level they shouldn't cut corners like that.
@@RacingBrick true, but considering the inflation in the euro zone from 2015 to now has been 27,7%. that Arocs would now be €255. Still sounds like a much, much better deal to me. (and zero chance TLG would release a set like that at such price now, obviously) So if "inflation" acounts for at best maybe half of the increased prices/lost value (and I'm being pretty generous here...), I kinda wonder what "stuff" could justify it?
I think this set is an absolutely outstanding build for the price. I don’t know why, but it feels par on par with that of the 42128 Heavy Duty Tow Truck (Playability and Functions wise). It reminds me of a game called American Truck Simulator that I used to play about a year ago. I played over 100 hours on that game, and it really reminds me of the fun memories I had on that game. Thanks for this review!
I'm wondering if in the future we will be able to buy modular sets separately, like only the tractor section and different trailers so you can mix and match. Yeah, it would be a logistical nightmare, but what if.
Little disappointed that LEGO didn't add another pneumatic cylinder for the bucket's scoop action, and instead insisted on a mechanical linkage. It does make some sense though to have it be mechanical due to the finicky nature of the cylinders, but over all its a pretty cool set and is one of the three sets that I have interest in from this year.
I ordered it today in Sweden, October 3rd, there was a discount and sale on it (25%) so it cost SEK 1406 in Swedish currency in US dollars it will be $127 so it was a good deal, looking forward to building it when I get home that kit
Curious to know the thoughts on this compared to our other licensed Technic truck with a similar style trailer, the MB Arocs B model. From memory it rebuilt into a truck with a trailer like this but with a different design. Interesting to see it besides the car transporter, shows just how big and feature packed that set is though do wonder if there's a way to see if they're at the same scale
Do you know if the smaller Technic cars like the new Koenigsegg fit on the back of this, if you remove the excavator? Like a makeshift 42098 Car Transporter.
Hi Balazs, what would it take for Lego to make a variant of part 6452845 (the engine crank piece) with a 30 degree off set? This way you could more faithfully recreate engine crank pin offset angles such as 30, 60, 120, or even 150 degree offsets by flipping the pieces appropriately, while the original 90 degree offset is still achievable. Specifically, that would allow the I6 engines present here and on the Mercedes to have the correct 120 degree offset.
This is pretty good set, but I feel like lack of the compressor tank for the pneumatics make it so that the approach to have just two pneumatic switches that would make the steering really ergonomic and playable, is now meaningless as you need to keep pumping the air. It would really make a lot of sense if there was actually a setup with small motor inside running the pump and connected to the battery box inside that big electric box.
When I saw it had the offset steering mechanism I really thought they had it attach to the steering wheel, what a shame. The truck is a great base for mocs but it's extremely basic, it's a day cab, even without sideskirts. (Truck talk I know, take it from me, this thing basic lol). The trailer is odd too, the way it sits so far back on the fifth wheel. The excavator could be better, but isn't bad, I don't mind the fact it has two instead of a more realistic three cylinders. Overall, I'm mixed, I like the set, I like the concept. It's just slightly off in some ways. In my opinion Lego might as well have ditched the trailer and went with a "rigid body" truck, that way they could've used up more budget on a third cylinder for the excavator and they could've spruced up the truck itself, although something tells me the designer didn't have a say in that. The fact that it's a tractor+trailer combo is probably a goal set by the Lego group or Volvo. Anyway, kudos to the designer, the truck is instantly recognisable and the excavator is good. I'll only be picking this up because I'm in Europe and it's indeed basically 150,-. And I'm most likely going to build it into a rigid truck to give the cab some love and detail.

I mostly like this set, even if, as others have said, this would have been the perfect set to bring back the air tank, and put a (motorised) pump and tank in the big box. I'm disappointed with the steering though. You can tilt the cab to reveal the engine... and a highly unrealistic steering system. Remember when the Technic mottor was "engineering like real life"? (actually, that may have been before the Technic name was introduced...)
The air tank is something everyone would like to see again, I don't know why TLG doesn't use it anymore. Maybe that's a good question for the next visit to Billund. As for the steering, it can either be realistic or playable... I'm not sure both would work at this scale. To accommodate the engine, there isn't much room for the steering, especially if the HOG is connected properly. I like the solution, it doesn't show how the steering of a real truck works, but it shows how you can build a setup that can be easily disconnected and still be steerable.
I can still understand the scale for a child's room...but for adults, Lego shouldn't rely on miniaturization...especially when it comes to construction vehicles. After the release of the JD Skidder, I had high hopes for the future. with double pneumatics etc. everything is there for players/builders and they could also pull something. An excavator with a similar setup and a new bucket mold [with or without a license / quasi successor to the 8043] on a decent scale would sell like hot cakes. Above all, if there are enough parts, the community can let their fantasy run wild, which is particularly beneficial for B models.
@@RacingBrick Can you check if the 3in1 Astronaut fits the vehicle? I already have that set, would be cool if you could add this. I know the Astronaut cannot bend the hips 90 degrees, but that's a simple fix.
For the alt builds, yup, it s gonna be exciting. But as for the main build, i find it rather disappointing... I agree. Could be the first $1000 Lego set. :P

Would be cool, but lego would make it based on an “electric” model and ruin it.

you'd need quite a large capacity tank and a coupling that won't wear down the hoses from pulling and reattaching them.
