  • This is my second video about the massive LEGO Technic 42146 Liebherr LR 13000 crawler crane set! After showing you all the build details and features in the first video, it's now time to show even more details, compare it to other cranes and Technic sets, then do a series of lifting tests, and finally up the game with a massive counterweight and huge Technic sets to lift!

      hope having great weekend you do great in depth videos of lego and lego technic but being a motorsport fan for 20 odd years now you cant compare the Ferrari set as ferrari have told lego thats fine you can make that but we want this much per sale its ferrari the charge so much for that name being on a product and so lego had to charge a far bit more in order to make it viable and so your comparison for parts to the Liebherr really isnt a good comparison without the ferrari badge on the set they would sell it for far less id say half of what they are charging for it without the ferrari name on it other than that great video thanks again 😎

    Ok the price starts to make a bit more sense seeing it next to the bucket wheel excavator which has almost 4000 pieces. It's like double the size. Plus the mechanical and software engineering that went to this is insane for a toy.

    • @janos5555
      @janos5555 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +19

      But they only had to do it once, so the price spreads over thousands of sets. I don't really think that this is a good argument. The design process is always expensive. 500€ and 350€ in the store would have been an ok price. I personally don't even like all these Control+ functions, you no longer have to do any thinking of your own, but it is probably better for most customers.

    • @RCmies
      @RCmies 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@janos5555 Yes creating a user friendly experience and a toy of this complexity being able to be put together by most people is not easy, and definitely complicates the design process. I think the 500€ price is fair, but 680€ is way too much. I briefly looked at some model cranes and I think I couldn't find an RC one that worked like this, at least not under 1000 euros, although there were ones that were much more detailed and realistic in scale but they werent RC I think. I didn't do much research though. I think 450€, and dropping the Liebherr name altogether (since it looks far from the source material) this set would be pretty amazing.

      the price still doesn't make sense lol

    I’d bet people would be a lot more disappointed in #1 than what we have.

    Even though I'm not nearly enough of a Technic or Leibherr crane fan to even briefly consider acquiring this set, I must admit that this is the umpteenth video I've watched about this behemoth of a LEGO set. After absorbing so much coverage of this long-rumored, highly-anticipated, and controversial set, I have come to the conclusion that this is actually not a bad LEGO Technic set. In fact, it's more than decent--it's actually rather good! The problem, as you point out, is that it is branded as the Liebherr 13000. Branding this set as a specific make and model of real-world vehicle brings with it certain expectations, which unfortunately were not met by this design. I agree that this set would have been far better received if it lacked the Liebherr branding, or if LEGO had opted for a somewhat more affordable and accurate replica of a smaller Liebherr crane.

    Closest vs Highest. Closest will be creating the lowest Moment into the crane as the distance from the Red tip of the boom to the Grey base of the boom is the shortest. The Force is at a shorter distance from the Crane in the closest position than it is in the Highest

    With 2 sets, you could build it faithfully. The arms and jip would already be longer, the house twice as large, with a slightly shifted center. On the back an extra arm, from which an extra heavy counter weight could hang, you have to make these weights yourself, preferably from iron. For the real weight. With of course the roller balls underneath. Look at the mamoet PTC 210

The Leibherr LR 13000 IS for me. I love cranes and heavy equipment. The functionality and size of this thing is absolutely amazing. I also have the Liebherr excavator and love that one too. Impressive to see it lift that BWE!
    Judged on its own merits, I don't think this is a bad set. Not at all. Not perfect either with a few pretty glaring flaws, but generally pretty good, and easily the best implementation of the dreaded Control+ system so far. But the price and the license don't do it any favors. Had this been just a no-name crawler crane for €450-500, it could have been an instant classic. And maybe Lego should look back at the PF days, where not everything had to be remote controlled but used gearboxes to achieve the same results with less motors.
    But also, I just saw a similar crane from Mould King.....at a fraction of the price but a lot bigger (even when made from just regular pieces for the booms!) and looking a lot more like the real thing. And that one seems no slouch either when it comes to functionality. And sure, MK is a brand with more than a few issues, but I can't help but feel a bit the same as with the Lego flex-Ferrari vs. the CADA "Italian Sports Car": the commie brands not just being cheaper but actually making a far superior product.

      @johnnytifosi Absolutely. This set includes over 1,400 pins and axles...pieces that fit through a hole. That's not including some of the pins that have other protrusions on them. So half the part count are pieces that retail on Bricklink at a small fraction of the price-per-piece calculation.

    I know why they are set the limit colour like that, even the hoist can lift up the same weight its because it have tipping point. And the more boom radius you have they are decrease the weught limit. The winch for main hoist still able to lift that, but you need another set up for counterweight and for sure it give a lot off stress to the part.
    Some operator i know they are more likely work in small radius than a longer one.

    Compare it to the Mould King 17015 for EUR 160 (at the time of writing)... that one has a proper remote control, more pieces, 2m30 high, double tracks on each side, and as far as I can tell it is made with GoBricks pieces (i.e. at least as good as Lego).
    Then go out and buy yourself a Liebherr fridge for EUR 400, and stock it up with beer with your final EUR 120.

  • @dimi727

    The position: closest refers to the hook position relativ to the body of the liebherr? 🤔
    Regarding the counterweights: why did Lego put so little counter weight for that price and not just more of those plastic things? at least that improves the performance of the crane...
    It hasnt to be too much (like you tried with the extra 6kg weight), because it would stress the parts too much I guess, but this is just sad this way :/

    What they mean by closest is that position is the closest to the center of gravity of the vehicle.

    They call that position the closest because that would be the angle you would be working with in real life YES you can get closer to the crane in the highest position but that is not what gets don in real life

    I've recently got back into LEGO, I stopped almost 10 years ago when I was a kid... and to me, this set is the pinnacle of what I've noticed with LEGO's prices, some are almost a steal (Like the €50 Bugatti) others are almost offensive (like this crane)... others have little sense, like the Peugeot 9X8 and the Ford GT... both have a similar amount of piece (a difference of around 15%) but almost a 50% difference in price... now, I get that some sets are "cooler" and better looking, but I think that the biggest problem with the prices of LEGO sets nowadays is the inconsistencies... I see many sets that look like an excellent offer, while others that are extremely similar have prices that are simply unjustifiable... and the new Power Functions or PowerUps or however they're called... they're sad, I remember the creativity one could unleash with Power Function motors and accessories, all at a reasonable price, now? You need a barely decent app to do everything, and they don't even make a "Pack" with a hub, motors and controller like they used to! It's a bit sad all things considered, and it's a pity that LEGO chased "normal" toys losing its creativity aspect... at least for me.

    i dont know how lego determines the price but 700 for 2k is just silly. the excavator and wheel excavator have double the pieces and originally retailed for 350 and 250 respectively. both are old and retired sets and can still be found for under 500 bucks. there is also the Mold King version that has 4k pieces and retails for 200. the only downside about the Mold King version is that its stupid tall at 6 feet.

  • @briqtastic
    @briqtastic 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I think the price is okay because of the electric components. But still, it's a lot of money and many LEGO fans cannot afford is. But the good thing is, there are enough other sets for every budget.

    The performance is outstanding for a set by Lego. But as much as I like this set, it's too expensive and large. There is simply no space for this monstrosity available :D

    TBF, the PU components alone are worth almost $300. Powered Up or Pneumatics is one of the quickest ways to inflate a lego sets price

    Brick science made heavy-duty lego motors, maybe with some metal beams, it could make the crane stronger.

    Thanks for the review vid and this vid. I think ill wait untill my birthday, which is around Oktober so the price Will drop a bit, and i could save enough money to buy it. It would be SO cool to have it. But is the white container included? And does it come with something to fill the container with? And if it doesn’t, what should i fill it with?

    • @RacingBrick

      The container is from the Mack set, the Liebherr crane does not come with any load

    Wow, it's amazing the torque capability of those motors, I'm blown away that it actually managed to lift the bucket wheel excavator set. I wasn't surprised that it couldn't lift the liebherr excavator though, that's a pretty heavy duty set. I'm still glad I got it, it's a fun build and enjoyed building it over this weekend. Just a shame it's so overpriced.
