24:35 The Amazon collection box is named "Layla" and has had one letter removed so it now says "Order at Amazon, pick up her".

I don’t normally watch this type of video but I found this one very relaxing. Being able to hear the cab (and surrounding) audio added greatly to the experience. Well done! I think I may have just found a new addition to my model railway hobby.

A very relaxing video to watch, thank you for sharing your journey. Shame to see so many stations just a shadow of what they once were. Newmarket especially.

Indeed. Newmarket used to have an overall roof many moons ago, and was the last location on BR to shunt with horses - there's a video knocking about somewhere about it. But the real 'end' to Newmarket was when the signalbox got demolished by a tornado (wind, not the plane LOL). Rather than re-build it, they singled the line through to Dullingham.

4:15 Crossing gates seem very late to close there -- is that normal for that crossing? I guess the 10mph speed limit means they don't need to close as early as the ones I'm used to on the Great Eastern Mainline!

      Yes that's how they've always been 👍

Great video , I built a 00 Exhibition Layout of Kennett station that was featured in the Railway Modeller , it was a 12 foot scenic section with the sidings serving the station yard and the grain store and grain loading point , when viewed from the signal box platform which was the viewing side I used a Tunnel port hole for the scenic break , calling this warren hill Tunnel be it quit a distance away , to the Right I built the road over Bridge for the scenic break and the entrance to what was the station yard , so armed with lots of photos of the buildings that remained on my visit and measurements, I set about the task in hand , I eventually sold the Layout which went to the isle of Sky .👍

I used to live quite close to Kennett and used the satiation to commute to Cambridge when I first started on the railway. Knew the signalman who let me park my motorbike under the steps of the box!

Nice video. Started off from where I used to work - the TOPS office in Cambridge Down Yard. I was born in Newmarket and lived only a couple of miles away so it was a shame you didn't mention the closed Warren Hill station at Newmarket like you mentioned the other closed stations. But still a great video and interesting/saddened to see how the line has changed so much.

That is interesting, I didn't know there was a station there. I always thought there was a station at Cherry Hinton but apparently not. The Greater Cambridge Plan is to build new stations at Cherry Hinton and Fulbourn, but nothing in the pipeline yet. What will happen for certain is redoubling of track from Laundry Lane LC to possibly Cherry Hjnton LC. This is part of East West Rail and will facilitate a half hourly service each direction Cambridge to Ipswich.

@@ds1868 There WAS a station at Cherry Hinton for a short time - maybe a couple of years at most. But it was a long time ago - way before my time LOL

@dave55uk oh right thanks! If it does go ahead will be interesting to see where they build the new station. I think Newmarket station could do with a makeover as well!

Well good afternoon Mr train man 😊 What a fantastic quality video with excellent audio 👍🏻 Loved the click it y clack of the jointed rail 😂 I can just about remember the grain train at Kennet station loading its wagons 👍🏻 My job is driving a hgv lorry with a MRI scanner inside visiting veterinary hospitals all over the country and one of them being at Six Mile Botyom lol 😂 When are the class 37 tractors coming out of service on the main line for Colas 🤔 Thanks for sharing stay safe on your travels 👍🏻

Grew up around the corner from Kennett, close to the USAF base! A friend and I regularly cycled to either Kennett or Shippea Hill for a dose of spotting!

Colas 37's will finish when the power cars are able to go everywhere! Route clearance is an on going saga. Can't imagine the 37's lasting beyond 2025???

Thanks for posting that and for taking the time to do all the captions, it adds a lot. Last time I saw Newmarket station was on film when they were retiring the shunting horse so it looks a bit different, th-cam.com/video/kQ9DrerydpM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=apSWe4_flFP0-yLz Old Charlie and Butch must be turning in their graves. The tunnel was interesting too, reminded me of the view the doctor gets when he sticks his camera up, and I guess it must feel like that for you too sometimes, but what a lovely noise when you opened up. Thanks again.

Saw some of the last grain wagons going into Newmarket when I first started on the job at Cambridge. 1989. Traffic flow finished soon after! 😞

Can't get used to how low the canteanary looks from the cab. The line side details are abundant, something not noticed from a coach.
