Great video, as always. Appreciate you not showing too much of the DLC's content. I just started a fresh playthrough of Elden Ring on Tuesday, doing a Wretch, DEX-based Fist Weapon build. I've since put 39 hours into it and I am having so, so much fun. I even started streaming/recording it at a friend's suggestion, just so I can chronicle the hype moments (I've unfortunately missed that chance with some of the earlier fights. Like one boss fight against these two Crystalians where I came into it with 25% health and no flasks, and I switched to the Red Assassin's Dagger and healed myself back to full with critical hits. I know the crystalians are wimps, but I was really proud of that. Lol)
Been loving it so far. My main complaint is that I wish there were a few more rewards for exploring meticulously (hidden secrets, etc.) and that so many of the rewards weren't just smithing stones lol. Otherwise it's phenomenal, all the new weapons are so cool. I just switched to dual wielding the Perfume Bottles and it's hilarious lol
I'm absolutely loving the DLC so far but a few of the bosses aren't designed that well, they shouldn't have an insane combo and then have 0 attack windows Mesmer and a lot of the story bosses feel balanced and have those openings but some like Putrescent knight does a malenia combo and then has 0 attack window even if you are on his face Also the performance on PS5 isn't too great I don't mind the pop in but losing frames in the lightning phase of the dancer and a few others needs to be fixed ASAP
This dlc has been a very unfun experience, the couple bosses ive been able to beat havent even felt satisfying to beat, because of how long it takes to learn, and how perfect you have to be. Even with 8 blessings, i still stand zero chance against 90% if the enemies. I get its supposed to be hard, but its so hard its unplayable, grinded for 2 hours getting blessings for no difference.
Depends which bosses you mean. If Lion and Rellana then yes, they are bad bosses to introduce the DLC (although I do like Rellana). Keep going and find and many Scadu Fragments as you can, Putrescent Knight, Scadutree Avatar and Metyr are quality bosses that feel way more like classic Dark Souls 3/Bloodborne fights. I almost quit this DLC too, but perseverance is key. It’s way better than the base game.
This dlc honestly feels like it its the size of the full surface map of the lands between maybe minus some dungeons. The content is very plentiful. And they never fail at blowing me away with new bosses and equipment, because the world is just one aspect of the hard work they put into this dlc. I'm so shocked that i have so much left to do after like 24 hours of playtime. And the biggest difference is just how much this map brings me back to that feeling of playing Darksouls 1 with the amount of twists and turns it has. They absolutely outdid themselves and i'm really excited for lore dives. I feel like there's no way people will stick to old weapons btw! Just seeing rellana's swords i could tell they went all out.
They should've built a system for saving builds you can revert back with this DLC. I just can't be bothered to respec to try one of the many new weapons, to then not want it.
Wouldn't say better. It's literally just expanded upon. You only think it's better because you played the base game to hell already, as you will the dlc.
@@VykeKing I would say better. The weapons have more distinct and insane movesets, the land is even more dense and winding, the vistas are constantly breathtaking, the enemy design is more complex, the boss complexity is ramped up, the armour sets are way more drippy…. I’m sure it’s partially that I’ve played the ever loving hell out of the base game but no I do genuinely think that this is the best of Elden Ring
You guys can't look at an expansion and say it's better than the base game when the content is cut in half, if not more, than the base game. Yes, there are cool weapons that seem better than anything the base game has, but that's purely subjective. Yes, there are more interesting enemies, and yes, there seems to be cooler armor sets, ashes of war, incantations, and sorceries.. But nothing changes the fact that it's just extra content. If the base game was an expansion itself called "The lands in Between" and they released "Shadow of the Erdtree" right after, then everyone would have bitched and complained that Shadow of the Erdtree wasn't as big with less content.
@@zvacanti I'm only in the first 3 hours of the DLC, so I don't know if there is any area ahead that is much heavier. Though, in the base game, I also had no issues. One thing to consider is that I'm not using RT. Some people have reported having problems with it enabled. But considering how small the visual improvement is, it's worth disabling.
i'm on a gtx 1650 which should be below minimum specs but works ok, mostly 45-50 fps outside and 60 inside. that's exactly how the normal game worked for me on release 2 years ago so yea, i don't really see the performance issues either
I have locked 60 but I'm also using the DLSS mod so no online... A bit shameful they couldn't at last add that natively, should have come along with ray tracing.
That Omen? You mean Mohg? Yes, you're going to need to brush up for the DLC. It's noticeably harder than the base game. It's doable, but after playing for a few hours today, it feels like trench warfare, fighting hard for every piece of the map. Even random basic soldiers can kill you in a few hits.
@@MrAnimescrazy unfortunately I'm dealing with just a steam deck, but there's more than enough good games that run really well on it to keep me extremely busy. I know a steam deck isn't a proper PC but the portability works well with my schedule, and I often hook it up to a large monitor and connect a PS5 controller. This was just the best option for my low budget. I may be poor and busy, but I'll always find a way to game on.
Yes, I found one around the starting area, some of the graves had a weird greenish colouring. I was honestly expecting for some boss to pop up out of nowhere.
I think it took me… maybe 15 attempts at Margit? I was smiling ear to ear through every death. I’m kind of a dope, but I knew that even I could slowly learn his move set, and it was glorious.

Ive only started the base game for the first time last week.12 hours in and really really enjoying the challenge of it. DLC looks amazing but ill be happy to wait until i deserve to play it 😂
I had a lot of issues with my i9 14900k CPU when I had just bought it. Issues with default motherboard settings that caused overheating. Had to look up how to fix that. Now my PC has stabilized and the DLC is running pretty good. I have seen frames dropping in the open areas but nothing too bad.
After playing this DLC it almost drives me crazy when people say oh it's more Elden ring it's familiar but it's so so so so so so so different at the same time they have made everything better the ruins are better the castles are better the open world is better the art design is better the weapons are better just exploring and going through the areas gives you one of those feelings of pure excitement it's the most fun I've probably ever had with the game to be honest especially when you're exploring and stuff it's just nothing like it there's no other game the even comes close 10 out of 10 easy
I’m about 5 hours in and did the first 2 legacy dungeons. I already have switched my build slightly for the new weapons. They are all so fun. Only issue I have experienced on the ps5 is what you said. Some little pop in and frame rates sometimes stuttering. Especially in the first boss fight. I still absolutely love this expansion. I think it is not my favorite game of all time.
I’m currently playing Hogwarts Legacy and I think I’m at level 31, so probably pretty close to the end….That being said, I still have my Elden Ring save after beating it about a year or so ago….I finished the game by going back and beating Placidasax(which took me FOREVER) and Melania(I lost count 😂, but eventually beat her). This looks tempting, but playing Elden Ring was a Love/Hate relationship for me….Not sure I want to put myself through that again ie I’m looking at you Halig Tree….
I'm less concerned about Larval Tears (I think I collected every one available in the base game and only maybe used one once), but more concerned about weapon upgrade materials. As I recall, there was only something like 5 or 6 of those Ancient Dragon Smithing Stones or whatever was used to upgrade your weapons to the maximum, and I'm pretty sure I used every one available in the base game upgrading my favorite weapons. It'll really suck if there are none or only like 1 or 2 available in the DLC, considering the "100 new weapons" added.
I'm going with no spoilers, god I can't wait. I had to wait until the beginning of next month to be able to. I Platinum'd elden ring and now I'm so excited for the dlc
I am going to start the base game again from scratch. Because I never truly finished the base game before. But mostly I want to play something until the release of the next World of Warcraft expansion.
I started a new character in order to get into the DLC, made it all the way to Level 54 before my patience ran out and went in. While not undoable, it felt significantly challenging, and honestly it felt like i wasn't doing proper damage despite my weapons being +24 (or +9 sombers). Either i didn't gather enough scadutree fragments or your overall level plays a big role in your damage output.
@@danielrobinson9367 My point is, if you are level 180 and have all your points in vigor and mind, you will deal more damage than a level 80 with the same points distribution. I never considered the increase in power from the overall level to be that important compared to putting points into specific attributes that have a greater effect on damage output.
@@anonymousperson8903 its not really a "get good" comment he mentioned..And since iv played previous titles years ago even i can say that the bosses in elden ring ar not the best.Infact i would say gael from ringed city is better than 95% of the bosses in elden ring
Thanks Luke - love your channel. I haven't played ER but I am looking at the hype and thinking about giving it a whirl with the new DLC. The thing is that I'm an older gamer (I'll be 50 in a couple of months) and as such I'm -okay- at games and enjoy playing a lot but not very good mechanically. I worry about the game being too hard for me to play.
That intel chip thing is an industry problem at the moment. Server providers have been having issues with 13th and 14th gen consistently failing and it’s supposedly a very complicated problem that might not be solvable with software updates.
*******Hey Luke not sure if you will see this, but I have a i9 14900k + rtx 4080 and I was running into performance issues in games, and it's because the 14900K pulls too much power due to motherboard manufacturers programming the higher end motherboards to overclock the CPU right out of the box. There is a planned system update by intel around July 15th that should fix it, but if you want to fix it yourself you can enter your BIOS and set your motherboard TDP to the stock recommended which is 253 watts. Usually in an ASUS motherboard BIOs that would be the Long Duration Package Power Limit and the Short Duration Package Power Limit. Set those both to 253. Hope this helps
If anyone is having problems on an intel chip with e-cores, you can turn them off in the BIOS. I did that for dragons dogma 2 and it improved performance by around 40%
If they only put 1 OR EVEN JUST 3-5 larval tears in the DLC, they’re fools. I hope they stop this “limited respec” crap they always do. Other games have moved beyond this. I think Wo Long made it suuuuuper convenient iirc. Once u unlock the respec guy, you can respec as many times as u want for free, AND you could even save a build (stats, weapons, armor, equipment setup), and then hot swap between them at any flag site. I wish From did that, but it took like 7 games to get the slightest bit of convenience functionality / quality of life improvements outta them lol. I don’t even care if the respec costs souls, but make it infinite respecs.
The stuttering issues was bad at first, I ened up upgrading to windows 11 and capping the fps at 59 with R. Tuner. And set borderless window. It runs smooth now. I'm also running a low end budget pc R5 2600x paired with a 2060 super. 16gb 3000 ram. 1080p mixed settings with high and some medium.
So far im sticking with moonveil powerstanced with a cold uchi, with a few sorceries to boot. It plowed through most of the base game but 0 bosses found so far in the DLC, just exploring.
I have a 4070ti and a very midrange Intel CPU and my performance is fine. Very odd. Might have to limit the available threads for the game? Great video Luke!
if you guys keep praising on size over quality, ER,starfield and tears of kingdom's condition would be common,no creativity,no new ideas, even the game looks like the same as 10 years ago, quit this idea and realize why you play videogames at the first time
Ive had Elden Ring from day one. It has constantly stuttered and micro stuttered since an update released last year that it got worst. Before that it was perfect and no issues. I have a 64GB Ram , 2080 RTX Super and I9 processor. That being said Dark Souls 3 also micro stutters.
I believe the performance issues are caused by the game not being able to handle too high of a performance, (at least on pc). I have a perfectly customized optimization in terms of graphics, and the game runs perfectly after doing so.
First off, I don’t dislike this DLC, as far as I’m concerned it took a lot of what I found arduous in the base game and ironed it out. But part of me can’t help but feel a lot of it is fur coat and no knickers. The area and level design is great, each open world region is remarkable. However for the most part (aside from Gravesite Plain and Scadu Altus) there is very little to actually do, with minimal dungeons (although Gaols and Forges are an excellent addition, and Catacombs are much more interesting than the base game), few new field bosses (just more of the same with Death Birds, Dragons and Tree Sentinels) and only 2 Legacy Dungeons (one of which is very vanilla). There feels like a lot of horse riding with little in the way of dismounting and exploring encampments, hidden caves and villages, big chunks of the map are vacant of any enemy activity which I feel is wasted potential (Hinterlands and Charo’s Grave being the biggest examples). The bosses are of good quality, I actually feel like they toned down much of the overly agressive bs bosses they had in the base game, with a couple of exceptions ‘cough, cough, Dancing Lion and Radahn’, but something just feels empty about certain fights like Putrescent Knight, Rellana and Romina, they’re good, but just have no buildup or intrigue. Metyr, Scadutree Avatar and Messmer (and admittedly the three aforementioned bosses) were all highlights for me as they reminded me of how great Dark Souls and Bloodborne bosses were. They felt tough but fair and I didn’t feel like I was being cheated out of victory like I do when facing Fire Giant, Radagon/Elden Beast or any gank fight in the game. Overall I enjoyed the DLC, much more than the base game but I feel that due to my overall negative view on the base game it obscured my enjoyment, also with how condensed and intricate the map is a more Dark Souls like experience would have been better for this DLC (less free roaming and more interconnected dungeon areas). I didn’t want The Shadow Keep to end because of how much it reminded me of my favourite Demon’s Souls area and many zones from bloodborne. Sadly Elden Ring is a game that bores me on subsequent playthroughs because there isn’t enough of the intricate intimacy of Soulsborne areas. These are just my thoughts though, if anyone disagrees then fine but please keep it classy with any replies or arguments.
Rolly Polly bosses, so far I have all the same complaints from the last half of elden ring into the DLC, looks pretty definitely the hardest part is just the damage mobs do and bosses never stopping moving, hard no, annoying yes
10:00 Im so glad my dumbass spent about a week max leveling my first character for this exact reason lol, was nice to just swap on the fly for some fights, if you're curious if max level helped, it didnt... It actually made it harder LOL
If you are running out of larval tears, go to Nokstella underground city and go up the stairs to fight the giant metal balls that roll. Every time you defeat them, they give a larval tear guaranteed. Farming won't take long
I'm on PC so not much for Day1 with THAT performance. Maybe next week, or two? Maybe when summer is over so both my PC and myself won't suffer from overheat....
Appreciate you doing this spoiler free mate. Its so hard to navigate youtube rn with all the spoilers flying around. Elden Ring first playthrough is sacred and you honor that
I'm almost ashamed to see how tempted I am by this DLC. Mostly to see how far my end game str double great sword build could carry me. The first boss I tried the double on was Malenia when I couldn't beat her with just one. Wow, that completely changed the rest of my game. With the damage output of two great swords I found most of the end game bosses pretty trivial after Malenia. Overall, Elden Ring was just an ok game for me and I still don't fully understand the hype. I enjoyed it enough to finish it and do a fair amount of side content but I found myself playing a lot of it liking it just barely enough to keep playing. So I'm on the fence about the DLC when previously I had no interest in it. I did really love the deep well areas though. That and the magic school were the highlight of the main game for me.
On PC I’ve had terrible stuttering. If you have adaptive sync on turn it off, that’s helped me. I also turned on performance mode in windows settings for elden ring.

@@MattR8605 or cookbooks😂
The performance on PC is not acceptable
I don't like the fact that experimenting with weapons is near impossible.
I'm absolutely loving the DLC so far but a few of the bosses aren't designed that well, they shouldn't have an insane combo and then have 0 attack windows
Mesmer and a lot of the story bosses feel balanced and have those openings but some like Putrescent knight does a malenia combo and then has 0 attack window even if you are on his face
Also the performance on PS5 isn't too great I don't mind the pop in but losing frames in the lightning phase of the dancer and a few others needs to be fixed ASAP
They legit sold a sequel as a DLC and made it better than the base game. This is peak FromSoftware
@@VykeKingI disagree somewhat a lot of it is better
Look at the base game as if it was it's own expansion and your guy's argument falls apart.
I'm playing the game on an 5800X3D and there are no performance issues whatsoever.
The game is at a constant smooth 60 fps frame rate.
Dang I’m on that cpu also with a 4090 but I’ve had some dips , nothing too crazy but down to the 40s a couple times
@@winj3r good idea I’ll try disabling
I have locked 60 but I'm also using the DLSS mod so no online... A bit shameful they couldn't at last add that natively, should have come along with ray tracing.
You can get more larval tears in the DLC at night by little moonlight pools around the map. Hope that helps!
There are A LOT of larval tears in the DLC man. They spawn during the night in clearly lighted areas with a circle of special blue graves around them
I broke my thumb a few weeks ago - going to be a long time until I'm anywhere near dexterous to play this :(
What’s the story with your broken thumb? And how long does that kind of thing take to heal?
Just play it on banana controller.
i finally got to play for a bit, havent played in over a year and forgot the buttons, got wrecked by that Omen in the starting area lol
That Omen? You mean Mohg? Yes, you're going to need to brush up for the DLC. It's noticeably harder than the base game. It's doable, but after playing for a few hours today, it feels like trench warfare, fighting hard for every piece of the map. Even random basic soldiers can kill you in a few hits.
@@octavianpopescu4776i think he means margit…
It actually is,
We are having loads of fun inside the shadow land❤❤❤
I was a console gamer and recently switched to PC, but because of this I need to replay this game to begin the dlc. The pain is real..
What are your pc specs?
@@MrAnimescrazy unfortunately I'm dealing with just a steam deck, but there's more than enough good games that run really well on it to keep me extremely busy. I know a steam deck isn't a proper PC but the portability works well with my schedule, and I often hook it up to a large monitor and connect a PS5 controller. This was just the best option for my low budget. I may be poor and busy, but I'll always find a way to game on.
This DLC is HARD, I’m decently far after about 15-20 hours and jeez man. It seems almost impossible, you have to be ON POINT with everything
I cannot even describe the scale of the dlc it's insane. Well done fromsoft👏
I found a tear in the dlc last night. I hope that wasn't the only one. No way it was way too easy to get.
I've found 2 so far so there's more than one at least
Yes, I found one around the starting area, some of the graves had a weird greenish colouring. I was honestly expecting for some boss to pop up out of nowhere.
Never had so much fun getting my teeth kicked in. Seriously great, I stayed up waaaaay too late and am loving every minute.
I think it took me… maybe 15 attempts at Margit? I was smiling ear to ear through every death. I’m kind of a dope, but I knew that even I could slowly learn his move set, and it was glorious.
Is that the unaltered Banished Knight Armor I see? Luke is a man of taste.
It's really, really simple. Certain types of people have made a job out of painting anything popular as sexist, racist or homophobic.
"Ragebait" is an actual industry.
Ive only started the base game for the first time last week.12 hours in and really really enjoying the challenge of it. DLC looks amazing but ill be happy to wait until i deserve to play it 😂
i thought i knew the scale of the map, after grinding and purposefully pushing progress. god damn this dlc is HUGE
With big empty spaces and rehashed pickups/mats/trash mobs. Woohoo /s
I am constantly laughing in awe playing this DLC. You know that feeling XD
You can farm larval tears... I got like 85
Man, no spoilers but there is a lightning based weapon in one of the mini dungeons, ash of war is one of the coolest ones I’ve seen in this game.
You still need to pick your runes up every boss attempt.
It's like they learned nothing.
I’ve purchased it but haven’t played yet. Thank you for posting a spoiler free review. You might be the only one 😊
Anyone who owns this on PC, you HAVE to play it with the Seemless Co-op mod. Life changing.
Love your videos luke. This game is awesome!
Sounds insane but the only thing that sorted out the awful performance on my Intel 12400f was to disable the processors 0 core. Much smoother.

Just got it. First From game, so far so good.
I'm already NUTS deep Luke. Love your stuff! Keep it up my friend 🎉
I have a 14700k and haven’t experienced any of that. It never goes below 60 fps
That helmet is nuts
I started a new character in order to get into the DLC, made it all the way to Level 54 before my patience ran out and went in. While not undoable, it felt significantly challenging, and honestly it felt like i wasn't doing proper damage despite my weapons being +24 (or +9 sombers). Either i didn't gather enough scadutree fragments or your overall level plays a big role in your damage output.
You don't say?
@@danielrobinson9367 My point is, if you are level 180 and have all your points in vigor and mind, you will deal more damage than a level 80 with the same points distribution. I never considered the increase in power from the overall level to be that important compared to putting points into specific attributes that have a greater effect on damage output.

The fact that you were having issues on pc made me feel less crazy
Yea, From QoL is miles behind Team Ninja stuff.
My go to weapons so far have been between Milady (main) and the beast claws. The ash on the latter is just too fun.

Yes, it's more elden ring, but imo, it's better, in every way. OST's, bosses, area's, enemies; everything.

Oh, add Midra to the highlight bosses. That guy was sick.
To the surprise of no one! Good game had good expansion!
Started the DLC on my ng +8 save and this expansion is definitely a bit harder than the base game
Rolly Polly bosses, so far I have all the same complaints from the last half of elden ring into the DLC, looks pretty definitely the hardest part is just the damage mobs do and bosses never stopping moving, hard no, annoying yes
Yup. Instead of fixing what was wrong with ER they doubled down.
