I worked at the AF weather program office in Los Angeles AFB El Segundo, spent a lot of time at Offutt AFB at Air Force Global Weather. I had a "friend" send me a photo of that toppled satellite before it was leaked out to the media. Really was a bunch of silly procedural mistakes and shortcuts that costs lots of millions and the incident happened at just about the worst time, after the payload had been fully assembled and passed all its environmental, vibration, acoustic, temperature cycle testing.
I'm getting excellent results from a QFH antenna I made from copper tubing fed into an NESDR through 50 feet of RG58. Good luck. PS make sure your bandwidth is set wide enough to capture the entire signal or it will turn out grainy. For me, I had to set it 96kHz wide.
How do you set this up long-term without manually changing the frequency on SDRUno for each sat pass? Seems like we would need to parse the sat pass list and then create a corresponding scheduled task inside SDRUno's task scheduler so that SDRUno will be on the correct frequency/mode for each auto record in WXtoImg.
I didn't see how any Doppler corrections were made. It would be really cool of WXtoIMG, knowing the receiver location and the trajectory of the satellite, could adjust to SDR center freq.
You can do doppler correction with satellite tracking software. GPredict has a plugin for SDR# that interfaces with your SDR, changing frequency while the satellite is passing over.

I used a dual band 2/70 Homebase antenna when I done my testing, and although it’s not ideal it did work when the satellite was over head. What you really need is a QFH antenna, but not sure if you can purchase them cheaply. I’m planning on making a video on making a QFH antenna very soon.

Not really, those kind of dishes are directional, plus the LNB would most likely not cover 137Mhz. The other issue is that the weather Sats are not fixed, which means they move across the sky, so you would need to move the dish as it flys by. I'll be doing a video soon on how to MAKE a homebrew antenna for receiving Weather Sats efficiently. :-)

Not to my knowledge, l use sdrsharp myself, and a right pain it was , you can find out all about the problems online, also, his images came from the bottom to top of screen, that’s totally different to mine, and l also have to do a lot more decoding to get an image like he does, and it’s still noaa 15, and not 19, so there, lol

Yes, wxtoimg did not change to get to file with celestrax, and when you update, it can’t find them, you have to get a patch, which does something called a proxy? Fix, don’t ask me, lol, but celestrax changed their name, and space org didn’t change the link either,

u can also go to recording options and set the soundcard to vb audio

Yes, but you have to down load the Beta version as the standard version crashes on windows 10z

What hardware is required for this to work?
You can use an SDR receiver and a home made antenna. Take a look in my amazon store front for SDRs.

You’d probably have to wait for a pass directly overhead and maybe even use a QFH antenna, but, try with what you have first 👍
No, you can't. You can see it from the video that even outdoor reception suffers from dropouts unless professional equipment is used.

As much as this looks interesting, the WXtoIMG program seems not to work on Windows 10.

I have the same issue with Win10 latest pack as per Sept 2019. I've tried running in Win7 and 8 compatibility mode with same results. Hummmm.....
