I am 43 and I love listening to the old timers. The wealth of information and experience can not be overlooked. Maybe some day I will come close to the wisdom of the old timers.

I am 71 as well and a couple of years ago a repaired a 6 inch vise with what we call cast 60 rods. it worked very well. No complaints from the vise owner, it has not broke so far. I have also used silicone bronze via mig welding and it also works for me. You have to clean the area and pre heat and it does work to repair cast iron objects. You can always learn from the older guys, just listen to them , they have a whole world of experience, which should never be lost.

Outstanding stuff here!!! Someone needs to catalogue the old timers info so when they leave this planet the knowledge doesn't disappear.

Gary explaining using Kitty liter for a heat insulation. I have used that and Vermiculite as well as a big heavy blanket(not the best, but what I had). I have not used heated sand, but the old timers that taught me said that works great too. So I am 59 now, those old timers are all gone now and I miss their wisdom but never forgot the stuff they taught me. And now I am passing that old school stuff on to the new generation while they teach me about the new stuff. However you guys are reaching more people on you tube than do in person. Good work gentlemen.

If Art is still alive he is the man for cast iron! He was the salesmen for Henrob torches or the many names they've had over the past decades. He used to go to the NAMES SHOW IN Michigan.

Awesome video guys. Old school skills that are seldom seen nowadays, mainly because most people can't do it. Would like to see Gary do a heavier casting if possible. Regards Greg

Would sure love to see Gary weld on an cast iron engine block from the teens or 20’s. Something like the skirt below the cylinder. Like where a rod broke loose and got kicked through the skirt by the crank. Would love to have a part number for Gary’s favorite “certainium”. Asking for a friend….😅
