These are exactly the moments we live for, all my PBs are seared to my mind forever, happy also that some of those I have on video to relive anytime. Tight lines gents!
27x27 maybe the back half of her was 12lbs lol. Caught my first of many DD at the dam in lake Chabot Ca. She costs me $500.00 in fines and fees for trespassing and fishing in restricted water. We were foolish rebellious kids without a dime in our pockets. We parked at the golf course so we didn't have to pay an entry fee and slid down the steep hillside and got an insane case of poison oak and looked like burn victims. Took two hours in the dark to get back up the hill only to find that our car was locked behind the gate in the parking lot. By the time we were finally able to leave it was 4 a.m. and another fine was tacked on. Was it worth it at the time?? Oh hell yes it was!!! I am not proud of what we did many years ago and if my kids ever do that I'll kick their asses and then smile proudly knowing they inherited the bass fishing fever bug
Bwahahahahaha I love it!!! The sickness is real! We'd never condone it looking back... and you better believe we'll make a kid pay the fines... but we'll know exactly where they're coming from the whole time. :-)
MAN....what a story! From the moment you mentioned chasing her along the bank I physically couldn't remove the smile from my face. Its so amazing when the story of the catch matches the magnitude of the fish. Thanks for sharing Matt!
Absolutely awsome story Matt!! Your parents raised you right even at that young age you knew the importance of releasing that bass. So happy you got a photo, if you do have a mount I would love to see it. Thanks for sharing your story!
Thank you Victor! I never got the mount because I was very blessed to start catching even bigger bass in the following years. Here is my biggest to date... th-cam.com/video/3AhOoMka4dI/w-d-xo.html
You're a good man. I have yet to break a double digit bass. I know I lost a double digit in South GA a few years ago but I will continue to pursue one. You're story reminds me of when I was a kid. Snuck into a private golf course in Miami FL and fished the whole day in the rain with my friends, catching small bass here and there. right before leaving I decided to put on the last beat up black Culprit worm I had left. Casted a long shore and nothing...Made one last cast to where the drop off would be and felt the sudden bump of a fish. Set the hook and landed a 7lb large mouth. Held it in the water until one of my friends returned with a disposable camera to take pics of it. Great memories that you will never forget.
This is what life is all about, amazing memories you will never forget. You and Tim are some incredible teachers and seem like great stand up guys. Just wanted to say thanks for everything you both have taught me and im sure i'll have more questions in the future. Which you always respond and answer truthfully. Mad respect and gratitude for you guys.
Some of your old stories are so inspiring to go back and watch. We eliminate all the variables to make us better fisherman, but some of those first fish when we weren't as proficient we're some of my best memories. Yes, 6 to 6.5 rods 10 to 12 mono, is how I cut my teeth learning to fish. Merry Christmas to you and Tim. Hope you and your families have a wonderful Christmas ⛄!
Great story matt im a bank fisher by heart grew up here in tn fishing every bank around i could stand on lol,got the bug from my grandfather taking me and my little brother when we was small kids,we used can poles at first the went to spinnig reel and topwater torpedos, loved the torpedo bite nothing like it as a small child it was like a dinosaur blowin up out of the water i still love fishing torpedos to this day even tho i know a ton more now its hard to leave youre roots, ive honestley learned alot from you and tim over the years of watching and just wanted to thank you guys for doing auch a great deed teachin all thes young and old guys how to effectively chase bass and catch them thanks for the storys and the knowledge truly great guys keep it going strong brother
Matt, I’ve been in a MISSION to catch my first double digit this year. I can relate heavily to the stage of life you were in when you caught that fish. Strictly a pond/bank fisherman, barely able to put fuel in my truck to get to spots. The other day I was slow rolling a bladed jig through deeper grass (at a pond that a 10.6lb had been caught) and had something stop my bait then just started swimming off with drag more steady then I’ve ever felt, straight down the shoreline. I had unfortunately cast up to a point and she took off right around it when my line hit the vegetation and popped it off. That feeling where it could have been a 3 with serious momentum or an absolute monster. It’s been haunting me for the past days since it happened. Listening to big bass story after big bass story, It makes me even more hungry to land my first monster. Thank you for sharing your stories.
a lot of people I fish with don't have the "fire" underneath their belts, the fish that changed their perspective on fishing or what gets you into it for life. I can tell from this video and the story alone, that was probably the fish that changed your life for fishing. I have yet to catch a double digit, but from all the species I have caught i.e. bass, steelhead, salmon, trout, walleye and others, I'm in it for life. loved the video, keep it up. you got the fire underneath your belt matt
Yeah buddy!!! Keep pushing forward and you'll get that double digit! And more importantly, you're still going to meet those like minded people. They're out there man and if you stay with your passion you'll connect with them.
great story and great re-telling of the story!! it looked like you were truly reliving that day!! maybe tomorrow when I go fish from shore I'll have a similar story....
yeah...i felt like i needed a beer and a fire while watching this. thanks for this video...its videos like these that get me through the winter over here in new england. cheers.
awesome story! i love these "memory" videos helps to bring everyone back to reality and remember why we all pursue our goals in fishing. its so easy to lose track of why we fish through sponsors tournaments and just social media "competition" keep up the good work guys truly the best you tube channel right here
Matt!!!!! I can't believe it!!!!!! The only problem with this story is now I can't decide which story I enjoyed more!!! The 17lbs or this one???? Totally rad Matt and thanks again for everything and keep up the good work!!!!
Your channel is the only fishing channel that constantly give us great tips and techniques to catch big ones. Really really love the stories bud!!! keep it up!!!
Great story I’m in the same place right now. No boat, this past season was my first for bass and still have a lot to learn. This gives me hope thanks for the great content keep up the good work.
Guys, the videos keep getting better and better. As always the details and vivid descriptions are awesome. I'm shooting for my first double digit this year. Thanks you you both I believe I'm ready to call ch her and have the know how to bring her in. Thanx✌🏼🎣
I love sitting around listening to everyone's story that got this Drug of fishing pumping through our vanes! We all have that one story that got us hooked! Sweet story man! Thanks for sharing.
I'll never forget what the massive headshakes from my PB 7lber felt like. A kid I just met asked me to show him how to fish and I whacked a 7 right in front of him with a Lucky Craft Pointer 78 so in October. My heart may have stopped lol.
Back then I fished in good weather, bad weather, early or late, didn't matter... it was hard to find anyone willing to tag along. We'll tell some more stories and I'm not always alone :-)
So I went back and watch again to make sure I got it right. You said desire and passion. That is the key element to success! Hopefully the young people watching will hear this message and apply this to their future. Keep up the great work guys. Your teaching fishing but the example you are setting is far reaching.
Great story Matt! It seems like it always happens that way. My own largest bass and many others I've witnessed came from shore and were not exactly fishing trips but more like,"lets go take a few casts". Quick and dirty and never a scale or sometimes a camera as well. But that's why we fish I suppose. It can happen any minute.
I love this Video and how much it inspires me. You are my Teacher on and off the water. I was on a spot last year during the spawn that had a 2-3 pound male, and 3-4, 7-10+ pound Females competing to take the spot with the male. I tried for three days to get one of the females to commit with two missed hooksets. I know where they spawn now, so it's a matter of waiting till spring for that option.
Love the story. My favorite part was when you said you were chasing that bass and holding the rod in the air. Stories like these gives us bank anglers hopes of catching a double digit bass on shore.
Man I can wait till I break a double digit after watching all three of those videos where y'all talk about those finned freaks of nature!! My wife and I have caught together have caught 6 bass over 8lbs in the last two years we just haven't broke that double digit yet! It's only a matter of time!! Thanks for sharing!!
Great story, Matt. Loved it. I could picture the whole thing while you were telling it. Makes me want to get out and find some open water...it's 32 degrees here in NJ right now. Can't wait for Spring!!
I did find some open water today, and plan to get on it tomorrow when the temps rise a little. Sketchy weather here, but opportunities are out there. Matt and Tim are so lucky to have that California weather on their side. Those tanks they pull in are also considerably larger than what we have to catch here in NJ.
We're very blessed, no doubt about it! It was snowing here this week but we never freeze up hard like you guys do. Thanks for supporting us and good luck on that open water!
love the channel you guys have helped me a lot my pb is 12 lbs also I also caught a nice 8er bank fishing bank fishing is what I do most the time I think theres pros an cons but I love it either way thanks for your time man have a good one
This last spring we found one on a bed in Kelsey creek that had to of been over 10+, I hooked her once on a spinning rod. Worst mistake i've ever made fishing. She never bit again, and swam off. Going back next year to try and get her, if she's there.
Love this story so dang much, this may be the 4th or 5th time watching this video 😊 awesome stuff buddy, good luck to all of you guys and everyone else this year
thats amazing. i got a 10+lber with no one around and in 2004 when no one had camera phones. biggest bass of my life to this day and i have no evidence
Man I would love being a fish guide as a job so much better than roofing all day but you gotta be a great fisherman with spots etc great boat I’m 29 and just now getting back into the game you guys are blessed for sure

Thank you so much Bill! I love that you came along for the ride and appreciate the kind words.

Love the story. My favorite part was when you said you were chasing that bass and holding the rod in the air. Stories like these gives us bank anglers hopes of catching a double digit bass on shore.
