I visit @DKEngineeringTV to get behind the wheel of a car I've always wanted to experience... the Mercedes Benz SL65 AMG Black Series!
Only 350 cars were made and it produced around 660hp and 1,000nm of torque from it's twin turbo V12... in 2009! Insane figures.

It still baffles me how Sam doesn't have 1 million subscribers - the videos are consistently high in both content and production values. Plus it all feels so authentic, which is a rarity.
He cornily puts himself in the thumbnail every time. He also doesn’t do a clickbait type churn. He’s for a car purist who likes and can sit through all the weird car nerd stuff we love.
He, like most, has taken money from the devil car vertical, not the genuine purist I thought, just unsubscribed, I thought he was better than the herd.

Not sure why anyone is worked up about this way of doing business. If someone can point out what car vertical...or STG is doing wrong here I would like to see some solid reasoning other than you dont like capitalism, lol.

He's the auto TH-camr I relate with the most, yet he still has time to be a father, husband and person who makes sense of what Tony rambles on about.
He's like Manny Koshbin minus the Veyrons.
The cars of this era will always have a special place in my heart, especially this one, the LFA and the 458. It seems like a lifetime ago in memories, but when they were new, I was splitting time between in-house security for a high end hotel and as a PPO for corporate clientele. I had several eccentric gentleman with eclectic tastes in automobiles whom I worked for that allowed me to live out brief fantasies in their cars at their behest, even if it was a short jaunt to the airport or around the block from the parking garage. In the truest sense of the phrase, "They don't make 'em like they used to!"
This car is amazing! This video reminds me of last summer, when my dad and i went to germany to collect his SL65 AMG (non black series). The guy he bought it off asked if we had time to see another car he had in a garage a few kilometers away. It turned out it was a SL65 Black series. What a car!

I was on edge the whole video seeing those roads and such a valuable car traversing them.
Was binge watching some classics from 2018, with SOL in Monaco driving the Aventador for the first time. Refreshed the channel and saw this video! Great content Sam I love this channel.

An SL65 Black Series on Michelin Cup2's in the rain is almost insane. The fact that you were able to control it easily speaks to your restraint and respect as well as the virtuoso engineering of the tires which as you know are track focused but road friendly. Put the same tires on an SL65 Roadster and acceleration and handling are tremendously improved over the original PZero's of 2009. The correct select upgrades are almost like a built in cheat code.
10 out of 10 for looks and power.

I'll never forget driving south on 400 in Atlanta and a saw one lone car in my review mirror a good half mile back. Even that far away, I knew something was different and special. The SL65 Black Series caught and passed me quickly. Wow!!

the SL65 black series has been my all favourite merc for so long
SL's in "that era" (2009) ran on Mercedes ABC suspension system. This was a hydraulic suspension.
There was no "air ride" suspension for SL's in 2009.
I think the AMG One is proof that there are still some people at Mercedes crazy enough to do it again.

OH LORD YES! This era of Merc is my second favorite after W124 E500 / W140 S600 / W 202 AMG legendary lineup, but I put the pinnacle of AMG 6.3 e.g. CLS w218 / C w204 / S W221 AMG 6.3 and of course the SL65 almost on the same shelf. Mercedes, please, please, please, it is not too late to turn back. THIS is why we loved you and not the Jetson mobiles.
Probably in the top 3 best looking Merc's.

Remember seeing a sl65 black series near the tank museum driving about close to poole/weymouth and it looked menacing. I'm sure only about 8 were uk cars when I had a look. 250k new though!!

Renntech will bring that insane hp and torque even higher with a minimal ECU tune or if price is no budget, then a full upgrade package will work for you.

We had a green one here in Bedford.
To quote an old song "Those were the days". I miss special editions with fun engines of even household cars like a Xantia, Vectra, or - my personal favourites; the Type43 Audi 100/200 5E and 5T, with their wonderful five cylinder engines. Now we're expected to look into a future where we buy appliances instead of cars, and that SUCKS! I've never lusted after the SL65, but i love the absolutely bonkers look of it, and the simple fact that it exists. Such a shame the weather we have in these parts of the world fucked you over Sam. Would have loved seeing you actually experience that engine.
Here in Denmark one was stolen back in 2016, from a company who was gonna use it as a showcar. Back then it was the only one in our country.
They put a reward out, but I dont think it ever returned….
