Mars kicked ass, gettin Betta is my fave Travers tune life in londen man this takes me back. I was 18 in 78. I still can play this stuff. I'm 62 now 2 time cancer survivor lost thyroid & lymph nodes in my left arm the chemotherapy and radiation treatments messed up my bone marrow & hurt my liver a bit & ugly scars but I'm still here still playing locally still the best in my area it's good to be king man. I'm a tough old fart.
One wicked bass player. Peter "Mars" Cowling (in this video, and long time bassist for Pat), died on 3/20/2018. Funky, groovy, solid, and rockin' bassist. One of my top 5 bassists. He will be missed!!!
Pat Travers is the most underated guitar player, singer, songwriter, father and truly a very nice guy . He has a new 2010 cd available on (Alexus record label) called "Fidelis" that once again proves that he still has the right stuff !
Thats some pretty awesome shit. pre go for what you know, Pat Travers is amazingly underestimated, and under-appreciated per the mainstream, any one who has ever picked up a guitar in the past 30 years knows Pat is the shit.
I remember when Tommy Aldridge quit the band. When he was asked why he said " there isn't enough room on stage for two bass drums and Pat Travers head " I had to laugh, but Pat is still great in my book. saw him many times in the 70s always a great show.
I saw them open for ACDC in Charleston WV in 79 or 80 with in my opinion, one of the greatest bands ever, Pat Travers, Pat Thrall, Mars Cowling and Tommy Alldridge. That was Bon Scott days too. Killer Time.
Pat is da man. A few years back I saw him at a small club in Foxboro MA and when he first walked on stage I yelled PT and damned if he didn't walk over and shake my hand. Not many musicians that into his fans. And he always meets and greets after his shows. He still does a powerful set.
This guy was always 1 of my favorites.I was lucky enough to see him 4 times in concert.Once in the US Navy recruit training command Enlisted club in orlando fla,, wow.I was 20 feet away from him.Never forget that.
PT is a favorite, why don't more people get it? A Hammer Head here and have never seen a PT show that disappointed........ever! Firsts show was 78 last was 2013, waiting for next tour to come to my town.
PT is a fab musician. His music theory is SO much deeper than a lot of the other so-called blues-based guitarists and contemporaries. The guy has a lot of Brahms in his heart. What great chords!! I love him forever. xoxoxoxoxoxox......
I saw Pat Travers playing in 1976. I can't remember who he was supporting but remember getting a 'floppy single' of Hooked on Music. Loved them then, love them now!
One of my most inspirational guitar players from the 70's....his use of chords like major/minor 7ths, ninths and slash chords at the time wasn't used very much in hard blues/rock music
Add to pleasure of being on at soundproof years ago what amazing musician and even better human being in such a down to earth guy. Being able to get to know him a bit and Have a few "smoke" breaks was surreal. What a fantastic memory. Chris Pelletier in Philly
I seen Pat T. here in Iowa back in the 90s he played at this place called Georges now it's called Lumpy's. He was excellent. I always wanted to see him in the late 70s and 80s. keep Rocking it Pat.
What cool music! Seen him play a dive-bar up in North Texas in the late 90s and, needless to say he rocked the joint! Had this chiick up on my shoulders during "Snortin'" lol!
The first time that I saw Travers was spring break of 1978 opening for Rush with Head East as the third act in South Florida on the second leg of their Farewell to Kings tour. Rush had been there 4 months before co-headlining with Bob Seger.I found out later that it was one of the few shows that Travers did as a trio, but with Aldridge on drums. It may have been a one off show before going into the studio to record Heat in the Street as Travers lived in Miami.
Ed's Guitars!!!! Now there is a blast from the past. Kent Sonneberg is still in the biz. He was the main guitar guy at Thoroughbred and now has his own store once again in Tampa called Legends. So do you any of you remember when Travers filled in for Ozzy at the Orange Bowl after Randy Rhodes died and not only trashed our ears (LOUD!!) but also Foreigner's PA system? LOL I saw him with Mars Cowling in 88-89 for free on Clearwater Beach, That has to be right before Cowling left.
looking for the 1976 video of Boom Boom , It used to be easly found on youtube, sure would like a copy. Pat Travers is one of the most accomplished preformers of this era. Thanks for posting this video
I believe that Pat Travers is one of the greatest guitar players of all time, and excellent vocals on top of that. Shit these Germans must have drank too many beers or something because they look out of it.
@SolarTiger I remember seeing him open for the Outlaws in Jacksonville coliseum back in the day and when the Outlaws came on people started leaving. Pat blew the Outlaws off the stage. Pat is the man !!!
Back in the day - and the thing I always admired most was the ability was to switch playing styles entirely. They could be playing one style, with confidence, and they'd flip the switch and be a totally different guitarist.
Put on fantastic show in 1978 at the relatively tiny Madison Theater in Albany NY during the Heat in the Street tour. Night of hot boogie blues and hard- edged anthems with lots and lots of guitar fills with newly acquired Pat Thrall added to the lineup!
Damn the Canucks! Helix, Pat; Frank; killer Dwarfs, Triumph, Rush, BTO, the only bad Can Rock band i got is Anvil and I still don't know why I have 3 albums from them.
Love their music!! I started listening to Pat Travers when I was only 10 years old back in 1977. Still listen to their great music to this date. Jazzy rhythm and blues rock and roll with a good heart and clean meaningful lyrics.
Yeah Pat and the boys rocked the Arts Garage a few months ago when I saw them. I sat front row and met them back stage after the show. They were all really nice guys and we had a great time. Great Hard Rock that I hope never dies we need more bands like Pat Travers. Loving it Glenn Augustyn
I go to the same High school as his son. Elijah Travers. Pat Travers came to our school and gave a presentation with a PRS and a fender G-Dec. Pretty sick.
stingray1964 I saw that one in Memphis one of my favorite bands. I've been looking everywhere for some PAT can't find CASINO anywhere. I have albums but can't travel with that
Great video. I bought Makin Magic when it came out. Sheer brilliance. Saw him live at Reading in about 1980 and then again at the Islington Academy in London on 11th October 2013. I met Pat after the gig and he was a true gentleman, grateful for my support and faintly amused at my middle-aged fandom! Proper bloke. Proper musician.
I agree, PT should be in the R&R Hall of Fame. As should Peter "Mars" Cowling, that dude shreds on bass.
Rest in Peace
Peter "Mars" Cowling (Bass)
1946 - 2018

He FEELS It!Not many have that gift.Travers is ultimate underdog!!!!!!!!
And why aint he in the hall of fame again please?
One wicked bass player. Peter "Mars" Cowling (in this video, and long time bassist for Pat), died on 3/20/2018. Funky, groovy, solid, and rockin' bassist. One of my top 5 bassists. He will be missed!!!
One of my favorites! He hung right there with PT. Play on in peace Mars.
Ive been playing guitar for 30yrs or so and P,T,has some great riffs and a hell of a unique style, Great stuff man!!
HE MUST BE 24 HERE SAW HIM THEN AND RECENTLY AT THE AGE OF 64 --- HE HASN'T LOST A BEAT ! KEEP ROCKING P.T.
I remember when Tommy Aldridge quit the band. When he was asked why he said " there isn't enough room on stage for two bass drums and Pat Travers head " I had to laugh, but Pat is still great in my book. saw him many times in the 70s always a great show.
This band line-up just kicked royal ass! Nicko is the best! Love hearing him without the screaming Maiden vocals and 3 piece.
Listened to the hell out of Makin' Magic, Putting It Straight and Heat In The Street back then and still do..great albums!!
Tommy Aldridge played with him as well. Pat has always had a good band. Still going strong after all these years. God Bless him
3 piece, no frills, just talent. Not any of this around anymore. Pat rocks.
The glorious moment when you try to put the song in your favourite list but it's already in it ...
I didn't know Nicko could groove like that. Damn he's a versatile drummer.
And not enough words to describe Pat. Simply amazing.
Haven’t listened to him long but I swear he’s become one of my favorite guitarists
I saw them open for ACDC in Charleston WV in 79 or 80 with in my opinion, one of the greatest bands ever, Pat Travers, Pat Thrall, Mars Cowling and Tommy Alldridge. That was Bon Scott days too. Killer Time.
this song is f''kin hot! I remember listening to Travers, Marino, and Trower thinking they were the closest thing to Hendrix.
i saw pat travers in france with ted nugent in 1979,great show !!!
Great example of how playing great lead guitar builds on top of playing great rhythm guitar...
Let's not forget the awesome Pat Thrall too!
That is some killer guitar playing, the whole band kicks ass! Travers definetly on top of his game!
Pat is da man. A few years back I saw him at a small club in Foxboro MA and when he first walked on stage I yelled PT and damned if he didn't walk over and shake my hand. Not many musicians that into his fans. And he always meets and greets after his shows. He still does a powerful set.

saw him at about same distance in a small bar in Holland next to german border mid winter 1994
RIP Mars you were my favorite.
Killer player.
PT is a favorite, why don't more people get it? A Hammer Head here and have never seen a PT show that disappointed........ever!
Firsts show was 78 last was 2013, waiting for next tour to come to my town.
The reason for all the removals is I was trying to come up with the right words for this performance and it's, fast ,furious and phenomanal!
First band I ever saw. Blew me away, and continues to do so every time I see this guy play!
PAT TRAVERS SHOULD BE IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME
PT is a fab musician. His music theory is SO much deeper than a lot of the other so-called blues-based guitarists and contemporaries. The guy has a lot of Brahms in his heart. What great chords!!
I love him forever. xoxoxoxoxoxox......
Truly one of the greats, so great to see people discovering how awesome music was in the early 80s
I saw Pat Travers playing in 1976. I can't remember who he was supporting but remember getting a 'floppy single' of Hooked on Music. Loved them then, love them now!
Just 21 or 22 year I can't believe he's been alive for that long
One of my most inspirational guitar players from the 70's....his use of chords like major/minor 7ths, ninths and slash chords at the time wasn't used very much in hard blues/rock music
Jimi used those chords.
Unbelievable musician.Great band..Tight...
My favorite line-up.... P.T., Mars & Niko!!! You guys laid down the groove!!!
It's nice to be able to see Nicko behind his kit...the one he uses in Maiden is absolutely huge!
A youthful Pat Travers (here at 22 years of age) kicking some serious ass in the early days of his career. Great guitar slinger and vocalist.
is it rock? is it funk? IT'S PT !!! amazing musicians, all of them!
Wow, first time listening to pat travers and i gotta say he is awesone!
Also cool to know that nicko and tommy played the drums in this band as well.
i saw pat in early 80's at a small club, he was great! what a show.
Check out all the Rockpalast stuff, Uncle Ted, Spirit, Dickie Betts, so cool the gigs are all for everyone to see. Thank you german brothers
The 70's were the best.
Saw PT live back in Nov. 08, man talk about an amazing show, i hope he plays nearby soon. Even got to meet him in person and shake his hand etc.
the more i listen to this the more i appreciate how killer these cats are.
Add to pleasure of being on at soundproof years ago what amazing musician and even better human being in such a down to earth guy. Being able to get to know him a bit and Have a few "smoke" breaks was surreal. What a fantastic memory. Chris Pelletier in Philly
what a tight lineup. you got 3 amazing players. I got this show on dvd. It rocks.
I have a new respect for Pat Travers
Great groove!! First heard this on the live "Go for What You Know" back in '79.
I still live in the grove~I remember seeing him~one of my first shows. I bought my first vintage guitar from Ed's Guitar!
Man does this bring back some 8 track memories!
that travers sacred monster and a genius in addition to being a talented guitarist
unique, distinctive, rockin'... Pat Travers !
Wow! I had no idea how good this guy is. And I was 18 when this came out. Was into prog rock back then but now....things are different.
I've seen this video 100 times and just realized the drummer is Nicko McBrain! Didn't recognize him with the hat...lol.
I seen Pat T. here in Iowa back in the 90s he played at this place called Georges now it's called Lumpy's. He was excellent. I always wanted to see him in the late 70s and 80s. keep Rocking it Pat.
What a fucking crowd !!!!!....wow , you see a great band with great songs and you sit there and twiddle your thumbs !!!
What cool music! Seen him play a dive-bar up in North Texas in the late 90s and, needless to say he rocked the joint! Had this chiick up on my shoulders during "Snortin'" lol!
One of the greatest bands ever. Pat is a god for sure.
Pat Travers best guitar player of the 70s.
One of my first guitar idols. Absolute legend! 👍
An all time classic, back from the days of authenticity..
The first time that I saw Travers was spring break of 1978 opening for Rush with Head East as the third act in South Florida on the second leg of their Farewell to Kings tour. looking for the 1976 video of Boom Boom , It used to be easly found on youtube, sure would like a copy. Pat Travers is one of the most accomplished preformers of this era. Thanks for posting this video
The drums sound so old school perfect....as are the guitars!!!
I've been listening to Travers for years and if he isn't one of the top 5 all time ,I'm not sure who is.
Nicko is old school...and thats a good thing....even in Maiden he's still old school...
I use to play to all those albums back in the day - thats how I learned to play rock guitar
I love youtube.. for gems like this.
Never would've known that was Nicko!!!🤗
one of the great 70's guitar slingers... great memories of Massey Hall in TO circa 1979? ish?
Pat Travers killer guitar sound without distortion.
that marshall plexi tone... love it :)
Love PT, playing live, were exceptional with Pat Thrall on guitar.
I'm glad to see this. I can't remember anything from seeing him in Seattle in 79 or 80.
Pat back in the day! With Nicko Mcbrain on drums (pre-Iron Maiden) and Mars!
I believe that Pat Travers is one of the greatest guitar players of all time, and excellent vocals on top of that. Shit these Germans must have drank too many beers or something because they look out of it.
Pat Travers a guitar legend
@SolarTiger I remember seeing him open for the Outlaws in Jacksonville coliseum back in the day and when the Outlaws came on people started leaving. Pat blew the Outlaws off the stage. Pat is the man !!!
Yeah but why leave during the Outlaws they were a great live band too saw them both many times and they both kick ass!!
Back in the day - and the thing I always admired most was the ability was to switch playing styles entirely. They could be playing one style, with confidence, and they'd flip the switch and be a totally different guitarist.

Really, I saw him in 79, he was awesome. Hard to believe hes still that good. Where did you see him ? I didnt know he was still touring.
Love their music!! I started listening to Pat Travers when I was only 10 years old back in 1977. Still listen to their great music to this date. Jazzy rhythm and blues rock and roll with a good heart and clean meaningful lyrics.
beyond excellent pat and Mars go way back to the original line up with Pat Thrall & Tommy Alldridge in my opinion the best PT ever
+Buster Poindexter (boboshouseofblues) .... ummm look again Nicko McBrain
Saw him in 78 or 79 opened for Molly Hatchet Chattanooga TN.
Wow! Underrated!
THAT IS PURE AWESOMENESS
i have seen Pat Travers play many times and it never gets old...yeah i am Hooked
My favorite line up of PT
Yeah Pat and the boys rocked the Arts Garage a few months ago when I saw them. I sat front row and met them back stage after the show. They were all really nice guys and we had a great time. Great Hard Rock that I hope never dies we need more bands like Pat Travers. Loving it Glenn Augustyn
I go to the same High school as his son. Elijah Travers. Pat Travers came to our school and gave a presentation with a PRS and a fender G-Dec. Pretty sick.
Great vocalist and a lovely guitarist
Awesome guitar sound and style. 72 customs and the best.
@mikevod I saw him open up for Foghat when I was 15 and was completely blown away....haa, and it was only my 2nd concert. I agree, he should be in...!
stingray1964 I saw that one in Memphis one of my favorite bands. I've been looking everywhere for some PAT can't find CASINO anywhere. I have albums but can't travel with that
I forgot how much I loved Pat Travers! Thanks for the post.
