John A. McDougall, M.D. a physician and nutrition expert who teaches better health through vegetarian cuisine, John A. McDougall, MD has been studying, writing, and speaking out about the effects of nutrition on disease for over 50 years. Dr. John and Mary McDougall believe that people should look and feel great for a lifetime. Unfortunately, many people unknowingly compromise their health through poor dietary habits.
Dr. McDougall is the founder and director of the nationally renowned McDougall Program: a ten-day residential program that he and Mary McDougall host at a luxury resort in Santa Rosa, CA where medical miracles occur through diet and lifestyle changes. In addition to her formal training as a nurse, Mary McDougall provides many of the delicious recipes that make the McDougall Program not only possible, but also a pleasure. Dr. McDougall has cared for thousands of patients for 5 decades. His program not only promotes a broad range of dramatic and lasting health benefits but, most importantly, can also reverse serious illnesses including high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and others, all without the use of drugs.

I am familiar with Dr. McDougall's work, had bought 'The starch solution' years ago perhaps when it came out, and am myself almost entirely Whole Food, vegan and not at all afraid of or negative towards unrefined starchy foods. However in this video I was surprised to find no mention of legumes. Legumes do contain considerable starch as well as more protein than the starchy foods mentioned. Moreover the traditional diets mentioned did contain legumes: soy in much of Asia, lentils and chickpeas in the Middle East, and beans in Mesoamerica and South America. In my native India too many types of legumes are traditionally consumed. The omission surprised me more so because legumes do contribute a good amount of starch.
And: I've started my own vegan channel with the video, 'Plant based: an important point' and hope that people will check it out. Thanks.

Dr. McDougall is looking quite frail. He based his diet on the older Indonesian workers in Hawaii, but he overlooked the fact that in addition to plants these people are fish, chicken, and pork. Their good health was caused by the lack of processed foods, not the lack of animal protein.

I would agree with you, that if Dr. Mc Dougal is now 75, he does not look quite as robust as some of his colleagues who are a decade or more older. However, after being a vegetarian for almost my entire life, I suspect that eating dairy contributed to my getting Endometrial Cancer. I am now a fan of organic, non GMO, whole foods, plant-based, high fiber, low fat, low protein, no sugar, flour or processed foods, or alcohol. I use filtered water, and make it a point to stay well hydrated. I feel far better now, than I have in the previous three years, and plan to continue on this path, by increasing activity levels further. That said, there can be many reasons one person looks more frail than others of the same age. In general most choose to find statistics that agree with their own bias, regardless what the research says, nobody chooses statistics that do not reflect their beliefs.

I would believe that. I did the whole plant based food diet for four months. I wanted to keep it going, but after four months I felt something was wrong. I didn't feel particularly strong or energetic, and felt something was missing in my body. So I gradually went back to eating some meat. I did feel better after that. I think anyone who takes one diet road over another and who are not getting all their vitamins and minerals needs to take supplements. Just because our ancestors ate a certain way, doesn't mean we should. Keep in mind that most of them were old by the time they were 30, and did not live into what we would consider old age. Diet may well have been a reason for that. And you are right, he is looking quite frail. I don't know how old he is. My uncle drank a quart of buttermilk every single day, into his 80's and he had skin like a baby's bottom and rosy cheeks, very robust. I've not known any vegetarians that seemed to have any energy.

It's true that Indonesians eat rice 3 times a day. However, the rice is always eaten with something else called "lauk". Indonesians dish is not lacking in fat either. There are many kinds of dishes which are fried (chicken, empal, tahu, tempe) or cooked in coconut milk broth (jangan lodeh, kare, gule). A Chinese TH-camr who married an Indonesian was really surprised of how most of the food here which are usually steamed or boiled in her home country are fried in Indonesia. However, note that eating a lot of antioxidant rich food along with those fried food is a common practice here (lalapan such as cucumber, kemangi; aromatic herbs or leaves such as daun salam and jinten in coconut oil broth; sambal which is loaded with chillies, tomatoes, garlic, or shallots).

If you believe in God you know what Cain offered and what Abel offered, and you know with what God was pleased with.
Cut all carbs, go full carnivore my friend, cure your illness already. Don’t drink milk, don’t eat butter, just go pure meat and then bathe in the sun, your skin will heal and be protected from the strong uav rays that would damage you if you only eat vegetables, but when you eat meat, you load up your body with vitamin d, zinc, riboflavin, thiamine and calcium, that’s what will make you strong, calm, collected and clear in your mind.
Meat is the cure……. Thats why it’s called a « sacrifice » in the Bible, because you need to take the life of a clean animal in order to heal yourself, but we are more than the animals are and you know it very well. Animals do not have consciousness like we do.

Over the past few years i have seen more and more children that are malnourished, underweight and underdeveloped for their age and the first question i ask the parents is "is your child eating a vegan diet?". Most of the time they are. Whether they're eating starch-based or not makes no difference, they all end up with the same nutritional deficiencies and have to supplement several nutrients that aren't available in plant foods. The vegan diet may have positive effects short term because it's more likely to reach autophagy through lack of nutrition, other than that it's not a sustainable diet.

Bit of a generalisation though don't you think? Being a non meat eater doesn't mean you are unhealthy. Each diet has the opportunity to eat foods lacking in nutrition to various degrees. Meat eater, vegetarian or vegan can be unhealthy or healthy down to a person's food choices and meeting or not, nutritional needs, supplementing to make up any lack as a result of diet choice. B12 is recommended for vegans but meat eaters are advised to supplement and aren't exempt from this. To see an unhealthy looking child and assume they're vegan is so closed minded particularly when exercise, amount of sleep along with their home environment and financial factors affecting access to healthy food and vitamins all come into play as to whether a child appears healthy.

yes, traditionally most diets have been starch BASED, but what MacDougall always fails to mention is that meat has always played a role too and did oil. I mean the Bible clearly states that Jesus' first miracle was that of the fishes and the loaves of bread. So, meat was eaten commonly with the starch also, in lentil soups and stews whatever clean meat they could get was often added into it. Meat has been eaten in almost every culture and by the Lord Jesus himself, so I guess Dr. Macdougal is smarter than the Lord Jesus and saying that the Lord fed his disciples food poison. I guess Jesus didn't live a perfect life after all. Come on people, That's obviously a doctrine of deomons!

@@seven4098 Losing weight is about how much calorie you consume and how much calories you burn in a day. So you should eat less and move more. Carbs and proteins 4 calories per gram fat is 9 calories. Carbs are easy to use and cleaner for the body.

This is how i consider diets for human body and for environment. Order can change depending on quality. For example if you do permaculture and grow your own food then this order can be true for long term. You might need B12 but it is easy to suplement and you get other vitamins from sun and diet. You should exclude salt, sugar, oil, fermented foods etc.
On the otherhand if you don’t grow your own food and eat variety of vegan food in your diet then vegetarian or mixed diet (excludes dairies) would be better for you if you buy them from people you know.
If we go back to losing weight, you need to lift weight and build muscle. You can lose weight without exercising but with exercising it is much healthier. How can you lift weight? Basically you just need to move, you have your own body weight to lift. You can walk, dance, do yoga, swim etc. , select what you like or interested and get better at it.
When you move your body, you move your lymph and clean your body. If you eat acid forming foods, you should also eat alkalizing foods or at least drink more water. Deep breathing and hyperventilating also helps body, you can search for wim hof method.
Note: Fasting allows your body to repair itself. When you fast insulin drops, glucagon and human growth hormone increases after 12 hours autophagy starts. Real fasting benefits starts at 2 day dry fast or 3 day water fast. I don’t recommend dry fast if you never done it before. You hydrate your body first with fruit cleasing and water fasting etc.

      1. Are you becoming more like Jesus every day? (Romans 8:29)
      2. Would people say you walk in the light, or walk in the darkness? (1 John 1:6-7)
      3. Do you admit and confess your sin? (1 John 1:8)
      4. Are you obedient to God's Word? (1 John 2:3-5)
      5. Does your life indicate you love God rather than the world? (1 John 2:15)
      6. Is your life characterized by "doing what is right"? (1 John 2:29)
      7. Have you stopped continually sinning? (1 John 3:9-10)
      8. Do you “have the son”(living inside by His Holy Spirit) (1 John 5:11)
      9. Do you demonstrate love for other Christians? (1 John 3:14)
      10. Do you "walk the walk," versus just "talking the talk"? (1 John 3:18-19)
      11. Do you maintain a clear conscience? (1 John 3:21)
      12. Do you experience victory in your Christian walk? (1 John 5:4)
If you are able to truthfully answer "Yes" to these questions (or a majority of them, and are seeing progress on the others), then your life is bearing the fruit of true salvation. Jesus said that it is by our fruits that we are known as His disciples (Matthew 7:20). Fruitless branches-professing believers who do not display the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) are cut off and thrown into the fire (John 15:7).
Repent of your sins and ask God to give you the gifts of repentance and faith.
      (Ephesians 2;8)
Cry out to God: “have mercy on me a sinner” (Luke 18:13)
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved” (Acts 16:31)
Jesus said, “you must be born again” (John 3:7)

You absolute fool. God gave us animals to eat since the flood, Noah made holocausts of animals after the flood, aka barbecue in order to heal from the trauma.
The Torah is filled with laws regarding the eating of meat, we are specifically instructed to eat meat roasted over the fire and eat the organs along with it as well. What the Jews used to do is doing giant barbecue parties, that’s what the sacrifices were, the meat was not burned up into thin air like fools might think, people ate all of it together.
When they were in the desert and starving they cried out to God for meat, because when they were in Egypt they used to eat meat and feel very well, but God made them fast only to deliver them by given them meat.
It is also written « when I have stretched your territory and that you want to eat it meat, you may it of it as much as you want » it is the law of the Torah you fool, you rewrite both what the Bible speaks of and this fool of a false doctor rewrites history along with it.
I’m talking out of my ass ? « A man those faith is weak only eats vegetables » read it in your Bible, it’s not just about the Old Testament, it comes from the hand of Paul !
This guy is a fool, Mankind had no culture back then he’s rewriting history.
Men were hunters, they never were gatherers because they got poisoned by plants, roots and other toxic plants.
All plants contain toxins and starches are the #1 inflammatory foods on earth, you will be bloated to hell because fibers cut the intestinal walls first of all, and then they contain glucose which raises insulin in the blood.
      Sons of a beach liars.
When Cain offered a grain offering to God , God didn’t look with favour on Cain and his face was downcast - he was diseased !!!!!!! but when Abel took a first one of his flocks and offered it in sacrifice, that is meat, it was flipping lamb, MEAT, God was pleased.
Who is God ? Where is God ? God is within, that’s who and where God is, and if you do not serve your God well then judgment follows.
The carnivore diet is what we were all meant to eat in the first place, the establishment rewrote history, they deceived everyone addicting people to industrial shit saying carbohydrates are good for you, just lies that got people more diseased than ever and modified the DNA of people across generations.
Everybody is diseased today because of plants, of potatoes, corn, pesticides, excess of yeast, sugar and the whole lot, it’s no wonder, people are simply loaded with toxins in their gut you dumbass MF.
Beef and lamb eat grass and their digestive system filters the fibers and turn it into protein and muscle. So weird, we are made out of flesh and bones, that’s exactly what our bodies need - MEAT you fool

yes, traditionally most diets have been starch BASED, but what MacDougall always fails to mention is that meat has always played a role too and did oil. I guess Jesus didn't live a perfect life after all

@@j-sm4554 So, it's fair to say that Macdougal's supporters are not Christians and God-fearing people. You can't be a Macdougall supporter and believe the Bible is the word of God. Okay, I'll let everyone know.

« A man those faith is weak only eats vegetables ».
Noah makes sacrifices right after the flood, the Jews are instructed to literally do giant barbecues, don’t worry, you know the truth, mankind has been hunters since the beginning of time, plants are all toxic.
Eat meat, give the finger to everything else. The story of Cain and Abel makes sense once you test it for yourself, and it is the heritage of Cain that cities and societies were built, and what does society teaches you ? To eat vegetables lol
Follow the word of God, let those who have ears to hear, let them hear, for the others, they are not of us that’s all.
There is only one way to know if God is true, it is to test his word, and he never fails. Go carnivore see for yourself, 0 carb brother !
