  • Hi all and welcome back to the channel and also welcome the Zomax 501 battery chainsaw to the arsenal of tools in my collection.
So yes as the opener says, i am unboxing and giving the Zomax 501 its first test in wood. This product was sent to me free on the basis i will review it and exclusively show the saw on my channel. So far, the saw has impressed me and i have done a couple torture tests and it has done great. It certainly has a place with me, and i will be using it more and more for sure.
You can also check out the products and if your interested in buying one at www.zomaxtool....
    or
    www.ultimastor...
I think for the price it is hard to beat and offers a great saw for odd cutting or if you want to add more batteries then replace your petrol chainsaw. You can also turn greener with the battery chainsaws over using petrol chainsaw, however i know there are times when petrol chainsaws have to be used. There are no substitutes for the larger petrol chainsaws.
I hope you enjoy, sorry for the lengthy video but i don't want to do any disservice to the company on their products.
If you have any question or just to leave a comment below or hit me up at nick.garton@hotmail.com
    Thank you. #batterychainsaw #chainsaw #zomax #unboxing

Had my McCulloch 16" out today cutting timber and was mindful of the noise into the neighbours place. I like the idea of battery power but wish there was a single generic global design so you could use the battery across a number of name branded machines. But then some are 18v , 24V, 36V and now 58v. I attended a farm field day in in Australia recently and asked the sales guy about electric powered mowers, zero turn mowers, tractors, excavators etc and he said 'it will never happen'. Looked at a video from CONEXPO in Vegas last week and the trend now is heading towards more electric power (even in large excavators). I have the 1.2 tonne UHI Mini Excavator and that company has now released the same digger in an EV version! Cheers Dave.

Hey Dave, how's things going ? So I too am like you with being mindful of neighbouring residents etc and having a electric or battery chainsaw is game changing. Don't get me wrong, I still think they're noisy but not to the extent of a petrol one. I am surprised by reading some of the DB ratings on the saws just how high they actually are.
Regarding electric future, I think if we as a world crack the battery tech to something much more economical and longer lasting, I ultimately believe we will transition, however the battery tech is not quite there to sustain the run times say that of 5l of petrol or 25l of diesel etc...
I have actually had a go of a Bobcat full EV and that was a smooth as silk but only has a run time of 4 hours continuos with about 8 to 12 hour charge times. That's where the tech suffers, your only running a 30 - 50% efficiency rating if that's the case. Now say if you got 8 hour working time and 6 hours charge time of a full electric excavator then happy days but it ain't possible just yet.
I am seeing JCB boast their Hydrogen powered excavators which I'm liking but they have to have the dedicated Hydrogen fulling stations present with the equipment. That to me is a greener way of running larger equipment.
Anyways I have babbled on here, thank you for commenting, hope you are well, take it easy 👍

Great review and almost have me ready to buy one for the lumber yard. It would be so handy on big slabs. I love when the dogs make an appearance. Keep it up buddy.

Thank you Jerry, i have been looking at the Stihl MSA 300 for a while but the price is crazy expensive. Like 1300 for the saw, battery and charger. That is quite a lot of money to spend but the performance is unmatched in the current market.
      Thank you as always buddy.

I like the idea of battery powered tools but despise all the different battery platforms I think sales would run away if anyone ever makes adapters for all battery tool combinations. Have a great day Nick.

Heyy good buddy, thank you for commenting 👍
Your not wrong, you just have to good battery power tools and you must be able to find 50 different variations of battery platforms, that's just how companies work and patent their tools that way. It's a shame because I have a range of battery platforms and I still continue to buy either batteries or tools for said batteries 😄
There are companies out there who are selling adapters for batteries to fit other tool brands so maybe check that out.
Thanks again buddy and take it easy 👍

Battery saws tools are fab if off grid i charge mine by solar. Use stihl myself.

Hey Mike and thanks for commenting. Charging by solar is almost and virtually free charging (minus the cost of solar obviously) so thats a great way to charge battery equipment. The only thing is, I'd find I'd need about 5 batteries to sustain the running times of a petrol chainsaw throughout the day. I may be wrong but that could get hellish expensive too.
Thanks again buddy, which Stihl battery saw have you got ?

@mikegb1969 I've seen them in the flesh and they look a capable machine for sure. Shame they're so expensive to buy eh. The batteries are crazy price too but they are a high AH after all.
The versatility of them is great and like you said, being able to just go for it and use it is great, as long as it is charged up of course.

It certainly looks impressive for a battery saw. But comparing it to a 45cc petrol saw is a tall order......guess we will see as you use it.
A topper, if its got the same power, would be very desirable.
The more I look at battery saws the more the huge price of batteries becomes acceptable. When you consider the stupid cost of fuel and 2 stroke oil and the hassle of separating the ethanol, £100+ batteries don't seem so bad.
I see they've got this very vid on their website.... And you're probably going to get a few views from weirdo's looking for "man inserts tool into chainsaw"....lol.

Hey buddy, thank you for commenting. So it has impressed me quite a bit over my other battery chainsaws. I will be doing a head to head with them and a video put together over them. 45cc equivalent is a statement but after cutting with it the other day, I was impressed.
It's funny you say that about petrol saws and the issues of Ethanol and oil etc, I go and pock this up now far more than the MS260 that I love and the battery saw (as long as it is charged) just works right away. No messing. I know the run times are considerably lower with batteries and that's the only draw back we face currently.
I did send the link to them as they did send me the saw so it's real world talk to them.
Thanks again buddy, maybe you might be swayed to change your sawing ways 😄
