There was also Budapest agreement 1994, where USA (Bill Clinton), UK and Russia guaranteed Ukraine's security, and Ukraine had to give its nukes to Russia
The Dutch prime minister even stepped down, to become the new secretary general of NATO. Apparently he’s one of the few European leaders that can actually handle Trump.

I live in the north of 🇸🇪. In my town only (28.000 inhabitants) there are going up 2 new factories for making peacemaking equipment to satisfy the demand for such equipment made by 🇸🇪. This "ongoing aggressive special operation" our large neighbor is involved in, has been a very good ad campaign for said equipment from our small kingdom 🇸🇪. We in our region 🇪🇺 need just a little time to get the goodies produktion going and we will support 🇺🇦 for a very long time. Every time the a**hole neighbour rattles his iron 🚀 our commitment only deepens. The 🇪🇺 has iron too you know, but we don't rattle it, it's just there.
If Ukraine is thrown to Russia, Russia will only re-arm and start again later on. We Finns and other neighbours of Russia have about 800 years of history with Russia. Russia has never kept any deal they have made.
Since you are young and eager to learn. I'd suggest you read Bob Woodward's War, read about the Chinese Cultural revolution under Mao, about Nixon and the chaos that happened in the 1990's in Eastern Europe. I feel it will help you understand the world today from a vastly different perspective.
Im also just a happy learner, and I dont have all the facts. But I think this is a good note: when Ukraine got rid of their nuclear weapons, they where promised protection from The US (and Russia(!)).
If any territory is conceded to Russia, then it's effectively rewarding aggression. We all saw during WW2 how appeasement works out in the long run. In WW2 the sudetenland in Czechoslovakia was conceded to Hitler, with security guarantees offered to Poland. Hilter then went on to take the rest of Czechoslovakia, and later invaded Poland, and there were no immediate consequences. When Ukraine gave up it's nuclear weapons after the fall of the Soviet Union, both Russian and the US provided guarantees to Ukrainian sovereignty, those guarantees proved empty, so how valuable is Nato membership really, especially given that guarantees have already been broken ?
Putting my supply chain hat back on. The economic analysis here is a bit too high-level. The problem with flat tariffs (for the US especially) is that they’re applied on all imports to the country, not just of finished products. This means that products that cross the border multiple times (for example, US automotive supply chains) will get a much higher bump in cost. There are plenty of product categories like that, because Ricardian advantage means that it’s almost always more efficient to specialise in particular tiers or verticals of the supply chain. This is the reason why tariffs are always inflationary: if a good or service wasn’t being made internally then it was either more expensive or lower quality to make there. The US government would then be forced to either make sure there was more money supply to cover the extra demand, which if they don’t get right could cause hyperinflation, or choose to not increase the money supply (such as by increasing the national debt) triggering deflation that causes the US economy to grind to a halt. In either case, the US Dollar becomes unreliable as the global reserve currency which could destabilise global financial systems; especially the EU and UK’s. That’s the main risk from my perspective: smashing at a very sensitive system with a very large hammer. The consequences of that to supply chains can be very unpredictable. For example, a chip pan fire led to the near collapse of Ericsson and the acquisition of their mobile phone business by Sony. The system can recover, but it may take many years of hardship and it’s very hard to predict what the final result will be.
As a Brit I am hoping that Trump will do what he said and try to put an end to this escalation with Russia. This is not a statement about political preferences...it is a hope - because none of our current leaders seem to be talking about trying it.
i will not talk politics here, on this channel, more than this: what you´re hoping for is just not going to happen. Trump has no clue and P*tin is lauhging his @ss off over him. Greetings from Finland, right next to Russia -btw.
Totally agree with you, McJibbin. You should run for office in the future. That said, I'm more for a free trade World, like Reagan and Clinton were. Building borders for goods and for human beings leads to higher inflation. Thanks for a great youtube channel. Greetings from Sweden.
I also wish Ukraine to end up in NATO, even smaller, but I believe Russia would never agree. Maybe deklaring a neutral Zone to the occupied areas which be observed from both sites could be a interim solution and lead to longterm peace because of the exhaustion of both sites.
In Europe and Poland, among ordinary citizens, not the media and politicians, there is an opinion that no one wants Ukraine, neither in NATO nor the European Union. I don't know anyone who would want this country in these structures.
@@annalaehdesmaeki6533 The only thing I can guarantee you is that Poles will elect politicians who will block Ukraine from entering these structures, this is a popular position in Poland, especially among farmers (also European ones).

So that's not great.

That was a nasty thing, in deed. The government of that time did it to these people. And - from the 90ies until Putin invaded Ukraine (2014!), several people from Russia searched for asylum in neighbouring countries bc of their ethnicity: f.ec Poles, Germans, Finns and others and were given asylum, until today they were welcomed and hopefully happy been so!
No, Ukraine should not be in NATO, it is too corrupt and unstable. We, Poles, will neither sponsor military equipment nor will our soldiers die for this ungrateful country.
