  • Ninh explains - The Rules of Pickleball. A relatively new (and popular) racket sport that’s similar to Tennis, Badminton, Squash and Table Tennis. It’s a lot easier to learn and pick up, a lot less stressful on the body and is an accessible alternative to these traditional sports.
    Specific to the International Federation of Pickleball rules, watch this short beginner’s tutorial video guide on how Pickleball is played, Pickleball rules, and how to play and watch pickleball. Learn about points, volley, two bounce rule, the kitchen, paddles, and more.

    So Pickleball has been requested on and off for years, but I only decided to make it now after realising that it's more popular I ever imagined.
    Cool way to get into other racket sports, or if you just want an easier to pick up sport to learn.

    Great video, as I was looking for further information about Pickleball... but... I did laugh at closing comment:
    "Pickleball is literally that simple to understand, without all the complicated rules of the other sports"... after they took *five minutes* to explain those rules!
    I think racquetball, tennis and squash have less rules combined! hehehehehe

    Some purpose-made pickleball courts were built right next to my local park tennis courts a few years ago. I had no idea what they were at first, but saw some people playing on them when I was walking around there. I had to ask the people playing "what is this thing you're playing?". "It's Pickleball!" they said, and I said "Pickle...what?"

    I researched this a few years, happy to see it getting more popular.
    Ultimately the sport will never be a huge commercial success as a professional sport, simply because while the main reason a sport becomes popular is that it's fun to play, it has to be conducive towards elite-level displays to become fun to watch.
    Anyone can play Pickleball - it's easier, less straining, and more forgiving than tennis/badminton/table tennis, while also being far, far more approachable and far, far less expensive to get into.
    However, that's also why you'll never see "a Roger Federer of Pickleball": there is not enough depth/nuance to the gameplay nor room for physical expression that a select 0.001% of the population can achieve.
    Basically: Pickleball looks like great fun and I do want to *play it*. It seems like an awesome way to spend time with friends (of all shapes and forms) in a competitive yet fun environment.
    But I can't envision myself or really anyone else wanting to *watch it*.

      @@sqearly Yet it's all completely correct. 😃The reputation of the sport has only gone down since I left that comment. Americans are forcing it (what a shocker) and everyone within tennis is rightfully lambasting it.

    I've always been intrigued by Pickleball but never really looked into it by the notion of it being a sport only seniors play. Seeing other younger people play it and see professional play as well, makes me want to give it a go too.

    • @KevinOnEarth_
      @KevinOnEarth_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s definitely a game made for seniors and/or non athletic people. Obviously, anyone young and athletic can make it more “competitive” but the rules are inherently designed to minimize this via underhand serve, no volley (kitchen) zone and other physical elements like a perforated “wiffle” ball, smaller court etc.
      With a virtually zero learning curve, the only people I see playing this game in my neighborhood are uncoordinated children and seniors.

    • @SunDogGod
      @SunDogGod ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@KevinOnEarth_ that’s what makes it fun, anyone can play so there are always people to play with. Football and baseball are sports you need a whole team to play with. The accessibility makes it fun

I ended up being the only person that actually knew how the game worked, having played it before. Everyone played like it was tennis, and where getting way to competitive with it (they clearly liked physical sports more). In the US in singles the service does not always start from the right hand court. The service location depends upon the score. If your score is even you serve from the right hand court. If the serve is odd you serve from the left hand court. It appears that the doubles service rules in the US may be a bit different from these UK rules too.

    I should also mention there are a few things you missed with the Kitchen. You got it right that you cannot volley the ball with a foot in the kitchen, however you also cannot land in the kitchen when you hit a volley. Also, if you are in the kitchen and do not establish yourself outside of the kitchen and you volley the ball, it is a kitchen foul and the point is lost.

    Can someone explain why pickleball rule 4.B.6.A contradicts 4.B.6.B?
    Doubles
    4.B.6.a.
    At the start of each side out, service begins in the right/even serving area.
    4.B.6.b.
    When the team’s score is even (0, 2, 4 ...), the team’s starting server’s correct position is at the right/even serving area. When the team’s score is odd (1, 3, 5...), the starting server’s correct position is at the left/odd court.
    While 4.B.6.a indicates service begin on the right after a side out, 4.B.6.b indicates position is based on score. Let’s say after a side out the team who gets to serve has an odd number score, does that mean the serve start on the left/odd court side?

    • @golfer435
      @golfer435 ปีที่แล้ว

      All that means is that when you win a point (win the volley on your serve) then you and your partner switch service areas.

    Can someone explain the no volley zone? My family and I started playing smash ball in the backyard and then slowly managed to transition to using pickleballs and pickleball rackets. We mainly just hit the ball back and forth for fun but since we have the equipment and a court is near us we are thinking about going to a court one weekend to play. So my question for the kitchen is, why would anyone stand in the kitchen? Why would anyone return a ball meant for the kitchen, aka a light hit?

    • @kogniscent
      @kogniscent 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      sometimes you have to go into the kitchen if someone hits a light shot (drop shot), the better the dropshot, the harder it is to get back over

    • @golfer435
      @golfer435 ปีที่แล้ว

      Think of the kitchen as a past, present, and future area. You cannot be, have been, or end up in the kitchen when volleying a ball. You must establish position outside of the kitchen and not end up in the kitchen when hitting a volley. If the ball bounces in the kitchen, then you are perfectly fine to enter and hit it, but you must immediately step out.
