      A very basic game similar to tennis, bowls, and cricket for example but dumded down for the rest of us. The rules are extremely simple and very similar to sports we do know .however the making of thos sport comes down to very small logistical changes compared to its predecessor. It has became more interesting because you need to be great to be noted. However that extreme is very limited to an the average person can achieve. Pickleball deserves to see the light of day purely because it's a mixture of .a sport that has the rules do be exploited to entertain such a game. The world.has developed enough to produce similar challenges without the headlines to make it worthy of humnaity

    Just took my first pickleball class today. About a half hour of instruction then onto the court. Within two minutes of playing I pulled my right leg hamstring. I had to sit out the rest of the training. What a way to start learning the game, but it was fun.

Love that you used a live game with names, so I could really see how it works!

    I’ve played pickleball four times now, and watched a number videos. This is the best explanation for beginners that I’ve seen. And the only thing I’ve seen that seems to contradict this video is a ball that hits the tape of the net and falls over. People count that as a point, although you say if it hits the net it’s a fault.

    • @primetimepickleball
      @primetimepickleball  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If it goes into the net it’s a fault, if it clips and goes over it’s still in play. Thanks for the feedback.

When I first started playing I w had many different players try to help me learn pickleball but the problem has been it’s been too many distractions where each person who has tried to help only confused me more because they themselves were not fully understanding all the rules completely. This video covers a lot but is more than is needed to get started.
    Fortunately, I had lessons from an USAPA Ambassador before watching Pickleball Channel's How to Play video. Now, one complaint I hear often hear from non-players is, "There's too many rules." This video tends to re-enforce that sentiment: progression of explanation, frequent 'More on this later.' asides, etiquette-as-rules segueways and, details on strategy to be off-putting for a true beginner. IMO, Kyle Koszuta's enthusiastic 'How to Play Pickleball' video is better - it hooks beginners with a concise explanation in under 10 minutes. Meanwhile, Pickleball Channel's 25 minute long 'How to Play' video makes a fine follow-up lesson once the beginner is hooked on what an enjoyable sport pickleball can be.

    • @alsdmf
      @alsdmf 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I too found the 'more on that later' breaks and etiquette-as-rules distracting. Vocal is too monotone.
      Found a different video which I recommend to folks: ThatPickleballGuy's 'How to Play Pickleball: The Ultimate Guide on Pickleball Rules' aka 'Pickleball's Weird Rules'. Less than 10 minutes long. Engaged vocals. Some goofy bits. But most of all, clear instructions and enthusiastic about the game.

    I can actually fully agree being an a novice tennis player and a inschool varsity ping pong player about the no volley zone because just as you said. It would only be strikes and not play. It would be like a one on on between two strikers only on each in volleyball trying to best eachother. Or Pele vs messi one on one

    Not bad explanation, other than expecting us to learn the names of four people just to follow along with a couple game points. Also, since many people already know the rules of sports like tennis, where the pickleball rules are the same, it would be very effective to add that. eg: It seems like the doubles rules on who serves and who receives, and switching sides, are the same as tennis?

    • @primetimepickleball
      @primetimepickleball  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the feedback. The serving and switching is not at all like tennis. Not sure what in the video makes it seem like it's the same.

    Very basic and simple rules which are great. However you said you need a 2 bounce rule between server and return. You advise the non serving player to get to the non return zone which I understand. But what happens if the opposite teams returns the ball toy partner who is in the position to return a volley because of your advice. Should they let the ball bounce and attempt a return or should they play they volley because they have got themselves in a position to to return it? If they should avoid returning then your video should advise both players staying in the.touchline until it has been returned. I want to commend you for an excellent demonstration of the sport but 😁 lesser advise the benefit of a forward player in a 2 bounce situation from serve

    • @primetimepickleball
      @primetimepickleball  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm sorry but I'm not understanding fully. The serving team should stay behind the baseline after the serve because they have to let the return bounce. After the returning team has hit the return, the next ball to come back can be taken as a volley if they wish so they are free to get up to the NVZ line after the return. I hope that makes sense.

    Very good video but I really wish for the scoring part, YOU had served to complete a full round of serving. In your case, I believe your score would have been 0-1-1 and winning a point could have shown the next steps and change of score, followed by a fault to show your partner then serving.

    Regarding equipment choices, as a good tennis player who started playing pickleball, I wish, wish, wish someone had given me the following advice early on: "Bret, spend the money and buy a top end paddle that's designed for control first and foremost!" Here's why...
    Any good tennis player will have good ground strokes within hours or even minutes after first stepping on a pickleball court, pretty much regardless of what paddle is used. And the player's hard volleys will be ok though probably not brilliant fairly quickly as well. That's because tennis ground strokes and hand-eye coordination translate well from tennis to pickleball for those sorts of shots.
    On the other hand, the player transitioning from tennis to pickleball will likely suck miserably at drop shots and resets, because to the extent they exist at all in tennis, everything about those shots is much, much different in pickleball. And if you don't have a paddle that's conducive to learning how to hit drops and resets, it'll be a long frustrating time until you can hit them well enough for it to make sense to use those shots in a game.
    I think many tennis players give up learning how to hit those shots and become "bangers" because that's all they can hit. If you have great ground strokes and decent volleys but can't hit anything else very well, what else can you do besides be a banger? Not that there's anything wrong with being a banger, but it is limiting and the banger doesn't really get to experience all the nuances of the game.
    I had a really hard time trying to learn the soft game until I got a high-end paddle that was designed for control. Suddenly those drops and resets that were spraying all over the place started to drop in the kitchen and transition the point back to the soft game for a bit. Not that I was perfect or even consistent right away, but at least it became doable.
    So spend the money, get the great paddle for control. Would you play tennis with a mediocre tennis racquet? Assuming the answer is no, then why would you play pickleball with anything other than a top end paddle?

      That's a fair point Bret! I think that's a wise move if you know you're going to stick with pickleball and know it's going to be "your thing". If you've already played another racket/paddle sport extensively that also makes sense.

      What about a non-athletic person who begins pickleball? Should that player also invest in a paddle that helps with control? BTW What makes a paddle better?

    I'm interested in the sport. Unfortunately, around here you only see tennis courts. I know that the court is smaller for pickleball. Are the nets the same height? Dicks Sporting Goods could not give me an answer.

      Hopefully pickleball courts will pop up soon as it's growing like crazy. The net is two inches lower.

    Great Video Nicole! I’m a certified coach at a local facility. Many times when I’m scheduled to teach beginning Pickleball I have only 2 students. This makes it difficult to teach court positioning. With 3 or 4 students it’s easier I can walk them through the positioning and scoring, and we can play.
    Any tips on how to cover this topic with 2 students?

    • @primetimepickleball
      @primetimepickleball  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a great question and I see the dilemma. Do you have clip board with a court on it. You can put four pieces on the clipboard and show it that way so at least you've covered it. I wouldn't spend too much time on it. Teach them skinny singles as an alternative. You have to work with what you've got.

    I skipped pickleball today because i wanted to lift weights. Pickleball is fun but the gym is a more serious workout. I can tailor the gym to my specific needs. But ill still go to pickleball on the days im not lifting. The orange and blue joola paddle has more bounce on the ball than the green activator paddle!

    That was an excellent video but I would like to have seen more instruction on scoring. I don’t know why it has to be so complicated. It’s a bit ridiculous. I think you should also talk about the injuries that are an occurring in Pickleball. It seems like it’s very easy to get injured and I’m not sure why ,I would like to have some more information on that matter.

      Here's a good video on how to prevent injuries: th-cam.com/video/KGuDQDTR-dw/w-d-xo.html. Most people are overdoing play and not doing a good warm up. Scoring is a bit tricky. Maybe rewatch that section a few times. Get out there and play a few games. It will become clear pretty quickly. I remember how confused I was at first but you move past it.

    • @primetimepickleball

      It's a fault. Either your partner gets to serve or it's a side out depending on if you were the 1st or 2nd server.

    Should the server ball touched the top net tape and still lands in the service box, is this a let ball?

      If it touches the net and still lands in then you play it. It’s NOT a let. It used to be but not anymore.

      There's nothing in the rules about each player serving the same amount of times. Miriam served because she was the right side player after the side out occurred.
