honestly, i missed the more magical and mysterious chest in the original kingdom hearts. Seemed like the worlds themselves weren't passive, they too wanted to be rid of the heartless and darkness so as sora learns and explores they give him special gifts.
Neat little detail at 11:56! Not only does the large chest have a treble (G) clef, but the keyhole is flanked by two bass (F) clefs, and below the keyhole there's even a C clef! The attention to detail makes me very happy :+)
There are just so many little details that go in to making KH1 feel so special. It has that cute, mysterious, magical, quaint vibe none of the other games do. It's an adventure game instead of an action game, and I personally find all these little secrets what gives it so much charm.

Zamn, I have never noticed how KH1's worlds all have a slightly different chest design. I thought I knew every small detail about the game but here we are. That's KH1 for ya. Always hiding something.
A small KH1 chest detail that you missed: Blue chests can't be opened until Sora knows that the Keyblae can unlock any lock. THere's even a safe in Traverse Town that functions the same way.
I think that the design around the keyhole on the KH3 Olympus Large chest is meant to represent Zeus as well, as it has a similar shape, big rounded biceps with the fists curling around where the lightning pattern is, as if its grabbing them
I had no idea the look of chests in kh1 varied by world! You sir have again proved to me I still have much to learn about a game that came out before I could actually remember things.

I appreciated a lot how you showcased the differences in KH1 chest designs, as well as the animated features of some of the KH2 chests (that would otherwise be impossible to showcase with static pictures)

I never ever perceived the differences in the chests in KH1. They just blended in too well with the worlds' overall color tone for me to notice. I honestly thought whatever small differences I was seeing was a trick of the environment!
Fantastic video dude, really well done! Another classic to chill to! So many cool chests, but my favorites would have to be KH1 End of the World and KH2 Beast’s Castle 🔥
I believe Days Neverland does have its own chest design. They aren't very common though - most of the missions there have holes to dig for treasure instead of chests, but the ones with the "Island" map have them, as well as one of the Skull Rock ones.
I miss the KH1 style of chests. The fact that you had to earn some of them, and how all of them would disappear just made them feel very mysterious and rewarding. The fact that the open chests just remain in kingdom hearts 2 just makes it feel too much like a standard video game.
I honestly feel like they stick around because then you know if you got it, I know I ran around sometimes in KH1 being like "I know the guide said there was one here.. how do I get it?" when in reality I just forgot I got it before
The chests from End of the World were great variations of the chests, love how diverse the chests ended up being in these games, so beautiful, wouldn't mind having some custom ones IRL myself.
