Be careful with dental scrapers, if you press hard you can accidentally drill away some of the actual enamel/tooth. Remember it’s a sharp edge, the weight of the tool is enough to scrape away tartar. Even if it’s stubborn, multiple light scrapes will lift the plaque. Last thing anyone wants is to damage their dogs teeth!! I use them and they’re great though. Somehow, my dog stays reasonably still so I can scrape his teeth, but absolutely refuses to let me brush them. Pets huh
What do you think of the ultra-sonic type teeth cleaners? The one I got is called Ni-SHEN Dog Plaque Remover. It seems to work well, with no real scraping involved and I feel much better using this than a sharp scraper tool. However, it may take some time for my dogs to get used to it...
These videos have helped me exponentially! I transitioned my senior lab/retriever from dry to raw 6 days ago. I’m shocked at how well it’s working. Tomorrow is his first day eating fully raw. Thank you!!
My pom has some tartar build up even if I regularly brushed his teeth regularly with an enzyme toothpaste and gave him lots of stuff to chew and he loves to chew them too (bones, different treats, antler, toys)! I have a dentsl set at home, I'll see if he will let me scrape it off manually 😅 Btw guys, you can SMELL a huge difference if you neglect the mouth hygene for just a few days, so imagine how much bacteria will actually build up over years of not caring!!
I have found that dehydrated tendons work better than bones (although both would be best) for dogs eating a commercial food, because you can feed them more often without overdosing your dog on calcium. My dogs LOVE turkey tendons!
My older sister recently started using a dental scraper on our cats (that started having some buildup) and I was surprised tp find it actually has been helping. I feed my cats pre-made raw, they're picky when it comes to chicken wing tips when I try to encourage bone brushing. A little difficult to hold the kitties down and may need more hands to hold their lips up since they're smaller than dogs. But definitely worth it.
Great video! My dogs are on a raw diet with RMB's, but they still get some plaque buildup on the front teeth, like canines and towards the front. They chew RMB's like chicken neck, back, and wings mostly with their back teeth, which look AMAZING & white because of that. Nature's best toothbrush! I've started giving them some beef rib bones, which allows for more ripping, tearing, scraping with their front teeth and it helps... but they still get some plaque. So I sometimes do a scrape if it's bad, but I also like dental wipes and enzymatic toothpastes for maintenance. It's amazing how much of the yellow plaque those wipes can remove before it turns into thick tartar. It's a lot of work to keep up on multiple dogs teeth, but way better than having to do teeth cleanings at the vet (even the anesthesia-free cleanings, which are cheaper but still expensive).
@@constellaation I use the Jax & Cali toothbrush wipes that I found on Amazon. But, for Christmas, I just got an ultra-sonic cleaner (Ni-SHEN Dog Plaque Remover) and it's pretty good, although I'm still training my dogs to let me use it. It allows for "scraping" of the teeth but it doesn't actually scrape like a sharp scraper... so I feel safer using it (won't hurt the gums), plus I can get to the smaller teeth (or between teeth where the wipe cannot go). But they do not like how it feels on their teeth lol. It's surprising how much stuff comes off when I can use it, though... and I feel like it doesn't harm their tooth enamel.
@veransia wow thank you so much for the detailed review, I'll def check it out!! i have a girl maltese so her mouth is small with itty bitty teefs and she doesn't like to get her teeth brushed. i usually let her chew on the toothbrush like a toy. i'm plannjng a better strategy tho 🤣🤣
I don't think an owner should use a dental scraper on their dog. That is dangerous. Daily teeth brushing is the most important and tartar has built up then a dental needs to performed at a veterinarian
Thank you for the lovely informative teeth cleaning hacks! I had a question, sometimes my dog gets string of meet stuck in-between her teeth! she finds this very irritating, and i try to brush and then pull it out, but sometimes it is so stuck, so what would you recommend to get food stuck between my dogs teeth out?
Thank you for the great tips on dental hygiene! We didn't know about the dental scraper trick but we will have to try it out! Raw chicken necks and raw elk bones works great though!
My dog is 5 and has been eating raw since she was about 2 years old. Her teeth are starting to get a little yellow for the first time so I talked to her vet about it. The vet said her teeth were actually still really clean and suggested some dental chews. I’m going to see if she’ll let me use a scraper on her. I’m not holding my breath on that one. But it’s worth a try.
@@protect_provide8031 she didn’t like them anyway! Enzyme tooth paste and a tiny bit of scraping and they are nice and white again! I was amazed at how quickly they cleaned up.
Brush their teeth with enzymatic toothpaste and use a scraper when you can! Genetics play a big role in dental health as well, so maybe your dog just needs a bit more dental care
Will you be making a cat version of this video? Or do the same things apply to cats? Any advice for taking care of my cats teeth, I want to make sure his stinky breath is just animal breath, and not something bad! ( don’t worry, I’ll be doing separate research aswell
Can I ask you to add in your spreadsheet a sample of the whole prey, and then show us what the missing items are. I mean, there must be a ratio according to the weight of the prey - such as a pigeon, for example - there is a specific size for its organs and so on.. if the pigeon is large, its organs are heavier, and if it is small, the opposite is true. Can you do that? I have 4 cats and I still can't balance the organs for each one of them, so I preferred full prey
best way: as puppies, get them used to having their teeth brushed so it's not a big deal. do it daily. fast forward to adult, you have a dog with clean teeth and you're able to brush them
Honestly, this applies to cats as well. I just wanted to make a more species specific video so it's easier for people to find it when searching. Usually people will search a specific species, not just "pet" if that makes sense lol.
My dog is very hyper and rejects the scraper 100%, he will run away from me and goes crazy when he sees the scraper. I would rather not risk him getting his gums/ teeth damaged therefore I stopped using the scraper. Also he does not like the taste of raw meats therefore raw meaty bones cannot help him either, are there any other ways to clean his teeth? :(
You can also get a finger toothbrush with enzymatic toothpaste and see if he lets you brush his teeth! The toothpaste tastes like poultry or something that they naturally enjoy. My pup thinks it’s his end of the night treat
My dog knows its brushing time when I get brush, and knows its scrubing time when I get tye scaler. But, all I can do is the outer surface of teeth, absolutely not the inner surface of the back teeth.... ugh...
Hello I wanna ask a few questions.Im new new to the raw diet and It's just day 2 since I've been watching your videos but I've learn and notice a lot.The whisker fatigue,Don'ts and do's,The sanitation of the area you want to prepared their food, and the moisture.Im feeding my dog a Wet food and a cooked rice. Then I just mix it.But now I discover the Raw diet and this video. Wanna ask if is this more affordable than a Wet food?We do have a 5 dogs so We feed them a half can of dog food and a rice( half of rice cooker)We feed them 2 times a day Since we have a work.Im starting to worried about that habit because of a lot of rice and maybe can cause them an obesity or overweight. And How many times should I brush their teeth? And for cats I've been free feeding him which is bad and now that I gave him the food predescribe of the sack of cat food.My cat does not finish the food and more likely he will leave his food and be right back when he wants to.That causing the other dog to eat his food. Not related to your raw diet videos but one of my problem to my cat is he always leave the house and be right back if he wants to.I neutered him at the age of 1year and 6months but still wanna hangout with his friends.Im thinking of crating him.. Sorry for the long paragraphs😂

Apart from scraping and eating well, do we still need to brush teeth if they are white?
I’m surprised you didn’t mention brushing teeth at all. Is there a reason for this?
My dog chipped a tooth when eating a chicken neck and I’m too scared to give them any more raw meaty bones. 😞 Daily brushing it is then!
Oh no! Poor puppy! Maybe you could try softer natural chews like dehydrated tendons, fish skin, or bully sticks?

Lick pads frozen. My dog had same problem, the excesses salivating helps break down tartar,

Uncooked bone can clean dog's & cat's teeth 🦴☑️
Tartar isn't the problem. Plaque is.

Raw chicken is safe???
Bones arent good if your dog has weak tooth or teeth, will easily break them
I do not approve of giving dogs raw chicken bones due to salmonella risk.
salmonella is naturally occuring in a dogs digestive tract, did you know that?
This is not the owner's fault if you can't afford it because the dentist people wants too much money I want as much as a fixing human teeth or more
