I use a Sonicare toothbrush on my dogs-better cleaning than finger or regular brush. The heads are small enough to get in the back of the mouth. nicely.
Lashonay Wiley Your dog might be stressed/or scared. Make sure to be in a comfortable environment. And don’t yell, because this is knew for them too. It would freak them out even more. Try using a finger brush, or maybe reward them with treats or positive reinforcement. And if you need to keep their mouth open, put your hand around his muzzle with your thumb and forefinger behind the canine teeth (curved "fangs") of the upper jaw; lift the upper jaw with your thumb and forefinger. But don’t be too rough, it’s uncomfortable for the dog and stressful, so give them breaks. Your dog may also not know what the brush is, let them sniff it, and make sure they know you aren’t trying to hurt them. The main thing is that they don’t understand. If they learn it’s a positive thing and they will get rewarded, then they will be more willing and less afraid. I hope this was helpful. Have a good day.
My 2 pups are small - x between Shitzu & Aussie - they weigh 29 lbs each. I brush their teeth & also finger brush. I started out 1st w/ just a little bit of toothpaste on my finger and using it like a treat . So I ask them come on should be brush your teeth? And they already know what that means because they both take a running charge to the bath room & then sit & wait for me. So They taste the toothpaste one at a time then o brush their teeth / finger brush - then I’m done with them then they sit & wait for me to brush mine. It’s a nightly ritual and they love getting their teeth brushed but make it like it’s a treat . ❤
Try very slowly with treats they like, start by pulling around their lips, reward, look at and touch, reward, let them get familiar with the brush, and give them free will, if they stay with you they gets treats, if they leave try again the next day, its a very slow process but stay consistent over multiple training sessions

I use the chicken flavor toothpaste for both my pups & they don’t have bad breath. They’re 2 1/2 yrs of age. I know some older Shitzu had bad breath & I suggested that dog might have bad teeth / dental gum disease as that will cause bleeding & bad breath too -‘periodontal- I had that many many years ago and a person has a lot of pain from it. Now imagine your dog that can’t talk, people don’t look at their gums or don’t get vet to check & they are in pain. It’s so very painful as I had the start of pyorrhoea many years ago. Your pet can’t talk so please if you or someone you know has a pet with gum disease Plse get it checked out. I know it seems the smaller breeds are more susceptible & I don’t know why? But truly if you love your pet Plse take to vet.
So I just need a table like that and a different dog
I laughed pretty hard at this. Good job.
Then your doing something seriously wrong! You have to.have patience for!1! If you can't do that! Then you don't deserve a dog!
@kellyanndean9374 it was a joke, I laughed pretty hard. Don't take everything so seriously❤

I use an old stretch glove with dog/cat toothpaste. That fabric helps take junk off teeth really well.

Ew I have a sonicare but I don't dare
I brush my 2 pups teeth the same way although one pup refers the finger brushing over the brush
My dog puts up a fight...he sees the toothbrush and immediately puts his head down...he's a Maltese

Also dont push their limits, if you start to feel like they are getting impatient or frustrated call it good for the day to end on a good note
Giving dogs chews only isn’t a substitute for brushing. I found that out with my guide dog.
The dog looks like it’s saying god is this thing over yet!😂😭😭
You can also see if your local groomer offers dental brushing.

Will their breath still stink with the beef or chicken flavor paste?
