Artists from my day would have killed for the tech today's musicians have - we were in 8 track studios, everything was live, and vocal manipulation was down to laying a double track to make the voice fuller (autotune - wot's that?!). Yes I prefer her 'real' raspy voice and accent. She sounds so much more smooth and polished in her studio produced tracks, it sort of smoothes out her actual personality.
Her producers have to be pushing her to be "smooth" and poppy. I didn't like this song until I heard this gravelly version. Now I love it.
