auto tune doesn't make people sing good... it just evens tones out so its better for recording... Look at t-pain, without autotune, he still is talented... You gotta be able to sing.... Yes I prefer her 'real' raspy voice and accent. She sounds so much more smooth and polished in her studio produced tracks, it sort of smoothes out her actual personality.
Her producers have to be pushing her to be "smooth" and poppy. I didn't like this song until I heard this gravelly version. Now I love it.

Great observation. Of course some of the contemporary greats do their own production. Artists from my day would have killed for the tech today's musicians have - we were in 8 track studios, everything was live, and vocal manipulation was down to laying a double track to make the voice fuller (autotune - wot's that?!). Yeah, it was a long time ago LOL 🤣🙄
