  • I decided to switch to the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra from the iPhone 13 Pro for a little over 2 months. Here I highlight some of the main the things I loved about Samsung and things that I loved about iPhone. They both have trade offs, but still serve as phones at the end of the day. Depending on which ecosystem you prefer is what it comes down to.

There is visual voicemail on Android...
    What the duck
    Edit:
    - I want to clarify the whole "carrying two phones" segment. I was referring to having 2 *active* SIMs in both phones, which I do not. Yes, I took two phones with me on the trip, but the iPhone only came for future photo/video comparions for the wedding & Mt. Everest trip. The phone was primarily in my room/suitcase 99% of the trip with no active SIM, and it turns out the S23 Ultra camera was a more capable camera in real world scenarios.
    - There's lots of comments QuickShare and AirDrop. I should have clarified more during the Ecosystem section at 10:18. Im aware of QuickShare, Google Messages, Nearby Share, and bringing out the Samsung Book & Buds Pro 2 was suppose to showcase, I should have talked about those features specifically than just show products.
    - Even though I said I prefer iPhone, since the release of the S23 Ultra & this video, I still haven't went back to iPhone. Currently on the Nothing Phone (1).
    - Lastly, turns out Im the only one who still cares about voicemail LOL

kinda, depending on your carrier, it's a separate app AND a separate fee. Which is stupid. Get a free Google Voice number and set up call forwarding for missed / unanswered / busy calls to your Google Voice line, then you have free visual voicemail and can even use any device with internet access to read / listen to them

Don't they make YouMail for Android? I have all of my voicemail messages go there. It's visual also, I just have to open an app to receive the message. It also has spam blocking/reporting.
So, regardless of carrier, my voicemails continue with me once I setup the App on the new phone. I can even access voicemail outside of the app and login to the website on a computer or other device. Voicemail shouldn't be that much of an issue.

The mute function can be mapped to anything on samsung. You can re-map the buttons to do stuff for you. Like doubble/tripple click or tap and hold to basically do what ever you like. My favorite functionality to set the phone in "do not disturb" mode is to make it so that when you put down the phone screen facing down. It's automatically being set to mute :) pick it up or put down face up, and the sound is on again.

I had an s21 ultra and have never had an iPhone, a little while ago I decided to do a test run with apple, I got the iPhone 14 pro max. It took me a while to get used to the format, I REALLY loved the AR features such as the cute animal faces you can be in real time. Galaxy phones do have this as well but it is waaay less refined and not as cool. Even custom downloadable apps similar to it just didn't compare. Also the AR games where you can play with your room as the "map" and things come out of the walls and what not, I was blown away. Again Galaxy just doesn't cut it compared to apple in AR features. That being said... I ended up not sticking with Apple, I gave the phone to a family member and upgraded to the s23 ultra instead.
Why? I'm a VERY big PC guy, I like my limitless customization, Galaxy phones are just so similar to a PC, you can swap or change anything with ease. When I had the iPhone I found myself downloading a few apps that made the iPhone more similar to a Galaxy, even then I just couldn't stick with it. I found that iPhone while having very refined apps that really shine brightly in visual quality just can't compare to a "mini PC" that, yes, is a little less refined, but just has so many more options. I can easily see why people like their iPhone, they sure do have quality, but as a tech guy, I couldn't make the switch.

For me visual voice-mail the S pen especially when taking group pictures and being able to have different launchers is some of the reasons why I love my S23 ultra. 200mp camera and 8k videos are amazing as well but idk the specs with iPhone so they could be the same in that aspect. Oh and how could I forget, if you and someone you know has an s23 you can still send them messages through the regular messaging app even if your phone is no longer activated and it will show you when they've received, read and when they are texting you back in real time.

Some things you missed here in the samsung ecosystem is samsung flow and quick share. You dont miss airdrop, its just called quick share. Also, the spen can be used seamless between all devices, and windows integration with samsung is insane. You can mirror your screen to your laptop, and access all of you phone directly on the laptop. You can open files on your phone with the laptop, drag and drop them on the computer and it automatically "airdrops them" to the laptop. Also, you can use tablets as second screens to galaxy books, and your phone as a toolbar for either. Also, samsung has a voicemail system where it stores all of your voicemails just like iphone. You have to type your number into the phone section and it shows this menu. You also never mentioned the ai assistants either. Samsungs own bixby and google assistant are MILES ahead of siri

I live in Italy and in my country most of the issues you mentioned about switching from iPhone to Android are nonexistent, probably because most people have an android (30% of ppl still have an iPhone tho).
First of all literally everyone uses WhatsApp, and I mean truly everyone. Even people who have an iPhone use WhatsApp, simply because everyone else does so it’s necessary in order to be able to talk to people, and using messages is seen as sort of like an antiquated thing that people did before the internet and messaging apps were invented lol. Some people who have iPhones use iMessages, but it’s always a secondary thing that they can use only with other people who have iPhones too, their main way of instant messaging still remains WhatsApp or in some cases Telegram (some people who care a lot about privacy and stuff like that only use telegram, even tho whatsapp messages have the end-to-end encryption anyway) and in some cases instagram or other socials like tiktok, but that’s mainly situational (like if you reply to someone’s story or if you send them a tiktok) and not a way to talk to other people regularly.
As for the voicemail, literally nobody uses them lmao. I’m 20 years old and I’m dead serious when I say that I’ve never listened to the voice mail of someone or received one, to the point that I started thinking that they didn’t even exist and were a thing of the past that I only saw in old movies. When someone calls you and you don’t answer and they really need to tell you whatever they wanted to tell you immediately they just send you a message (on whatsapp lol), and you answer when you see it or you call them back.
As for Airdrops, yeah, it’s convenient but come on, there are a lot of ways of sending data from one device to another and it’s really not that big of a deal once you get used to it.
The gadgets are not really a problem too because very few people buy the apple earphones anyway since they are SO GODDAMN EXPENSIVE. I mean seriously 150 euros for a pair of earphones? That’s crazy, and they aren’t even that good. So most people buy the random ones for like 30-40 euros or if they want to spend more they don’t buy the ones made by apple anyway cause there are better earphones and headphones on the market for that price lol

Step 1: Swipe down the quick menu panel, find the Bixby Modes/Routine button, then hold down on the button to open the Routine menu (if you can't find it, click the 3 dot icon on the quick panel, click "edit buttons" and drag the Modes/Routine button to add to the quick panel menu.
Step 2: Next, find the add/plus button to create a new Routine. On the "Create routine" page there are two options, "add what triggers this routine" and secondly, "Then" Add what this routine will do.
Step 3: Click on the option "add what triggers this routine" scroll to the button of the page and select "button action".
Step 4: Next, click on the option "Then" add what this routine will do, click on "advanced options list", and select the "show action list" to choose which key button you like to dedicate and what action you'll like to trigger when the key is pressed. Note: you could set keys to respond to double tap or press down the action.

After using mostly androids for over a decade, the largest annoyance after switching to an iphone a couple of weeks ago for me has been the lack of audio control. I’ve grown used to just forgetting about alarm setups, waking up at 7 every weekday, espacially since I can always trust that my alarm audio is on. On IOS it has been bugging me that I have to share the same volume for both my alarms as well as notifications and ringers. Using the volume rocker has not grown on me yet, so I have had a couple of mornings where I have not woken up from my iPhone alarms, and have had to rely on my backup alarm clock.

@@72breezyPoint is that you don't have to do that on Android. It automatically does just media volume and pops up a button for if you're trying to adjust something else. And at least on Samsung, you can have routines set your volume and other settings at different times of day too. One and done.

Thanks Dayo for your review. It is simply great! I think that you as an iPhone user, who is 'used' to have the same experience across multiple phone versions for many years, the switch has left a non-building-yourself-an-experience taste. So, to summarize my personal experience (numbering from your video) -> 1- You do not have to swipe down to toggle between sound, vibrate or mute, you can just simply configure a button, or configure a Bixby routine, or better yet ask Bixby directly to do it for you. I can detail on it, but it is too vast, but you may find this all over the web and TH-cam. 2- All folders, widgets, and icons can be customized and/or placed in so many ways that, yes, it may be cumbersome for iPhone users for the same reason I mentioned initially. And lunching them can be performed in multiple ways as well. 3- I've had no issue communicating with any of the iPhone users in my home, being me the only one with an Android, Whatsapp and Google Messages works just as perfect. 4- Every party or gathering I go, my S22 pictures are chosen over anybody else iPhone pictures in most scenery/lighting. 5- You want to hear something funny, my son is now doing photo/videography, and the moment he needed to pull the pictures natively from the Sony camera direct connection to his Apple laptop, first it would not show the videos location, then the mobile app would not work to connect to the mobile app, then there was the storage limit on iCloud, and they kept coming. So.. he brings the camera to me, cable connected to my Android table, or my S22, or my PC... super! All can be done no issue, with or without the provided mobile app, and there's that other issue, my memory card reader would not work cause his Apple laptop does not have a USB 3.0 connection, same for the 2TB external storage I gave him, and ultimately the OneDrive app for Apple does not work the same to share from my 1TB available space for him to share the pics and vids with his clients. By the way, uploading from his laptop/mobile to OneDrive is much slower than on my Android tablet, s22, or PC. 6- Another funny story, last night 9pm I went to play dominoes at a local restaurant, some 73% battery on my phone due to my driving time while charging the phone, but hey it gets better, one of the users on the opposite is crazily looking for an outlet where to charge the phone, cable in hand and the one next to our table was broken. I pulled my S22, turned on the power sharing feature, put the iPhone back to back with my S22, and 30min later the iPhone is at 65% and my S22 still had 38% left which lasted until I was done playing at 2:30am, when I then drove back home. Wherever I go, I see iPhone users carrying the cable and charging, despite the use, being the same as my usage as an IT Sys Admin and also a Realtor, both heavy used needs. Jumped 7 &8, then 9- Most of my apps work much better and/or have better button interaction than those on the iPhone, even email apps. 10- Voicemail works better, has better options and apps that work with it, and also the fact that I can record calls as well. I have not one, but 2 diff apps with my Cricket provider, that are visual and audio detailed and I can delete/clean my voicemail, so you are wrong here my friend. You can reach out to me about that last one for some guidance. Bonus: and then there goes DEX, once you detach from using a PC, and rely on pairing an S23 (for the sake of more speed, but not necessary) with a multiple display hub, and start DEX... you will love your phone forever!! and of course you can use wireless DEX to a PC with multiple screens and continue working on one, while your entire mobile experience sits on another screen via DEX. You do not need to touch your phone for the entire time you sit by your desk, but better yet, you can still use your phone as normal while projecting DEX.... wow! Where is an iPhone that can do that? I hope you understand what I'm trying to imply. I wish I can add screenshots/pictures on this post, but you can reach out to me when in need. :-P

You're right about Bixby Richard, it is so vast. With Bixby routines & modes, I take control of tasks without having to touch my phone or go into settings all the time, it's as simple as saying "Hi Bixby" and any task is just a command away! Say, for example, if I don't know where to go in the settings menu to access my device's software information, I could just command Bixby to take me there and it does in a matter of 3 seconds max! I've tried many times to move to other brands of smartphones, but I end up going back to Samsung for its unique services, customisations and all.

Regarding your comment about switching to Pixel, I want to tell you that in the past 10 years, I have used various phones, and I can freely say that Pixel is by far the worst phone I have ever used, and I would never recommend it to anyone! I don't understand why people in America praise it so much. The phone itself is okay and does what it's supposed to do, and it does it well. However, it has so many glitches and bugs that I'm ashamed I spent €1000 on it. It freezes when I send messages, open Viber, or use the camera. In short, the phone gets a 3/10 rating from me, and I cannot recommend Pixel to anyone!

I gotta say I like the way you do your videos. I'm a sucker for minimalism done right and there's just this nice zen like quality about having that animated landscape playing on your screen in the background rather than a green screen or some expensive studio (and for any detectives reading this, yeah I'm a Marques Brownlee subscriber but while I find his views interesting enough to stay subscribed I do miss the simple nature of his old videos where it was just shot in his bedroom with either the standard Cheerios backdrop or his computer).

@@Alex-tu5vu the answer here I guess is, people who disagree with you and like to customize their experience. Apple makes great everything just about, choosing to not buy Apple comes down to taste at the end of the day. For most people. A smaller minority might not buy Apple because of price or their practices. I am in the last group. I don't blame Apple fans for being Apple fans though. If Apple has everything you want already by default, you feel the price is fair and don't have any issues with their methods then it makes perfect sense to me.

    • @Alex-tu5vu
      @Alex-tu5vu 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@@SaintKines I've never owned any Apple products, so that opinion might change as I can't say for sure without actually having an iPhone. I'm kind of sick with Android though, or at least the Android on my phone. It seems like the iPhone is the best overall phone, being almost the best in almost all categories (except pricing for example lol), in contrast to Android being almost the best or the very best in few aspects most of the time.

  • @joelfreed8080

Fantastic comparison. For me, it would be the camera I'd switch to the Ultra for. I do not expect the 15ProMax to equal the Samsung Zoom, which, as a photographer, comes in handy. You nailed it when you mentioned how deep a person is in the ecosystem, I am deep in on Apple, Air, watch, iPad, Mac Mail, etc. I was going to give it a try but switching e-sims, allowing my number will be on the Ultra and then back to iPhone if I can't make your adjustment, will be the reason I'll await the 15ProMax. Thanks again.
