    That bottom tap must have been designed by a committee! I’ve never seen a bottom tap with a point! Seems like it defeats the purpose!Great vid as always Ade! 10,000 is coming! Really enjoying the Stuart build! I just finished my first model engine yesterday, a PMR (US) #3 that looks very similar to yours. I’ll be doing another model soon, and I hope you follow suit! Thanks for your effort! I’m hoping this hobby will keep this 61 year old from aging! Ha!

    Your commentary on your thought processes and procedures should not be called waffle it is actually very helpful and entertaining. BA was adopted from a Swiss metric thread system so using M6 may have been a more appropriate choice. Ade it is your model feel free to use what ever thread form you want to use. I work on clocks some made before standardized threads (thank you Mr Whitworth) and in the one clock, nuts can not always be used in alternative locations a stripped thread means making new parts in the closest adaptable thread often BA other times metric in an American clock. Older English and many French clocks mostly used taper pins. Keep up the good work. The tap buttons are a really good idea for the fine taps.

    I identify with the creaking joints, but mine are in my back. The last time I tapped BA, it was 10BA, I was an apprentice, 45 or so years ago. The boldness of youth meant I did it without guidance. The watchmakers do much of their tapping in their hands!
    Nice work as usual, Ade

    Dear Ade
    Another excellent video. With respect to a source of imperial (non BA) miniature steam fittings and related "plumbing" in Britain, may I suggest you look up the website for Forest Classics. They are a UK company that amongst many brand names, sells the imperial sized miniature brass steam fittings made by PM Research in the U.S. Keith Appleton has used these parts in many of his projects and speaks very highly of them. Regards from Canada, Paul.

    Ade I always hit the thumbs up button, I can not remember now how far you were along when I subscribed, it may well have been before you got to one thousand, but it was certainly before your 2500 th subscriber certainly. I would encourage any one with an interest in machining to watch and subscribe to your channel , because mate you are a Welsh legend! Hope you get the ten thou very soon mate! Watching it more Ade, the RGD taps are usual Chinese crap and not to have a centre point or a centre hole is sacrilege to a true engineer! But having a point on a plug or bottoming tap is totally useless and should be ground off flat to almost the total length of the full thread or you are not going to get a thread to the depth you want. Don't RGD understand that? I could say more but I would get into big trouble lol. I hope you get your ten thousand subscribers very soon mate! Cheers !

    Great video Ade, I came for the cylinder and got more so like the format. It shows how sometimes you need to make parts as you go along. Not bothered either way with or without commentary. A picture paints a thousand words so they say and they are in whatever language you know 😂.

  • @bhein67
    @bhein67 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great series Ade. I have never done a kit like this, but it is on my list to do one day. I'm sure you probably do this, when I break a tap (which happens more than I'd like) I file/grind the end flat to reach the bottoms of the shallow holes. It has worked really well for me. Also, those buttons are a fantastic idea, I never thought to make one for each size and mark them like you did, and to add the center for the tap follower is a great feature. Thanks for all you do! I'll keep cheering you on as you head to the 10K mark.
    Cheers from Canada

  • @dass1333

    Making a tool is what you need to be able to do when you need to do the job right. And now you have the right tool for that size tap. Much faster next time you tap that size.
    If you make something metric that is called inch/fraction, I won't tell. Not that I can see the difference while it spins.
