Been a fan of speedway since since I was about 6yrs old. 36 now and not so much interested like I was but still found this very interesting as I never knew.
I used to have a 72-tooth rear sprocket on my Jawa when I rode at tiny Costa Mesa Speedway in California fifty years ago. I think I was overspinning in the turns, and I slid off frequently. Unfortunately, at that time I had no clue about this kind of stuff.
yep, you're so right there. I leart about it on a kart. Wrong sprocket and you're too slow for a tight track. Or, you pass them on the straight but lose in the bends. Cheers.
when you change gearing you also change the Wheel base. smaller sprocket lengthens the wheel base. ..a change of 3 teeth probably means altering length of chain.
And, you can adjust the distance after a gear change by adding pre-cut chain links to get the right set-up. Forward on chain/wheel adjustment creates More traction, but difficult to ride because the wheelbase is shortened. Anything from the middle of the chain/wheel adjustment and back is easier to ride, but less traction because the wheelbase is longer.
This is about what bike they’re using. Most riders will turn up to a meeting with 2-3 bikes, registering them all to race. A will be their first pick, then B and C. So it lets you know that they’ve changed their set up essentially
Hi, Great video but limited info. My boys just started riding at 7- I need to learn how to set his bike up. Can you cover all your videos again in greater basic detail. I can’t find anywhere that’s does this. Everyone is friendly but tight lipped at the track. Hard for newbies Happy to be a patron for you to share your learned information Cheers
Don't apologize to people that know the sport. Videos explaining the sport like these, help peak interest for new fans. Great video!!

There’s a lot more to this speedway than meets the eye! Fascinating stuff.
Yes...Less is always More.

Please touch on primary gearing too, crank and clutch
Tatum is like that rare professor at university whose class you can't wait to get to every day.
