So Redbull has found a way to have more downforce at lower cornering speeds while having less downforce and drag at high straight line speeds - hence less tire wear overall. Dang, now everyone will want to do this - "Hello Adrian, we hear you are available..."
I think redbull have finessed their transmission/clutches to the point where it mechanically acts like traction control. Last race off the start line both redbull cars left straight whilst ferrari & Mclarens all squirreled off the line. They also spend their freepractice time concentrating on different lines through the slowest corners of the track, they're often 1/2 sec off the lap times in freepractice then put all the corners together and chase lap times once qualifing starts.
They have a really good suspension geometry that use the forces acting on the wheels (braking torque, acceleration, turning) to counter the tendancy of the car to roll. That allows them to use softer suspensions that are less hard on the tires.

Yeah exactly. No matter what you think of RB they are the most well oiled team at the moment. No real weaknesses like they are good in all departments maybe not the best in a single or specific department. But in F1 it's the team effort that creates win even if it's only the driver that we see.

I'd love to see Max and Lewis in the same team...One thought on their early race successes...Max had the best of equipment all the way through his racing career; Lewis's equipment was not always the best due to financial considerations.
Honestly if Checo was really close to Max I would agree but Max is just so much better in this car and without nearly as much experience in top machinery as Checo is.

The insinuation that grownd effect cars came to be affter the final race between Hamilton and Versttappen is ridiculous. The rules had been ste at least one year prior. Every team was already working on their cars and not focussing on development since middle of the season.
The difference is simply Max. Not even a Max fan, but I have to admit that. Yes, it’s the best car on the grid, but between Max and Checo, Max is the only one who can pretty much guarantee 1st place every race. He’s just a different breed of driver. Not any driver can fully utilize what the car offers. There are currently only 3 drivers who have that “edge” that can wring every drop out of a car that fast, and that’s Max, Lewis, and Alonso. Shame Mercedes and Aston can’t put out equal machinery cuz if they did, it would be one heck of a fight up front, akin to what we saw in 2021.
To those who say that they only won because they had the best car..... Yes, Newey designs the best cars (more often than not), but no team ever had the best car and thought "shall we save ourselves some money and put in an average driver seeing as the car is so quick?" Mansell, Prost, Hill, Villeneuve, Hakkinen, Vettle, Verstappen were all worthy champions who EARNED the seat of the best car on the grid.
I don't know much about F1 but if this all was true, I would expect Cheko to place in the top 3 consistently. So it does not make any sense to me. Max is clearly a superior driver.
In 2010 Adrian Newey introduced the powerful exhaust-blown diffuser that greatly increased downforce... It required a new engine mapping and driving technique. Seb was successfully taught this technique - but Mark Webber (much more experienced in F1) found this technique counter-intuitive, which put him (and all non-Newey cars) at a disadvantage. Exhaust blowing was no longer allowed by the FIA and in 2014 Seb became the first defending F1 World Champion to fail to win a race since 1998. The FIA had also introduced those nasty Pirelli tyres designed to reduce the Red Bull advantage - most successfully! Seb struggled with that, and moved to Ferrari, but never found his original Newey Red Bull Mojo again. Sometimes it is a winning _combination_ of car and driver that succeeds.😉

Max might have the best car, but he is also a genius on the likes of Schumacher or Sena. He is a natural talent, and with a ultimate weapon at his command, almost impossible to beat. That’s F1, talent and technical prowess combined are unbeatable.
Tire lifespan is only due to better aerodynamics... If you have enough downforce, you don't rely as much on machanical grip... If that downforce is eficient, then you dont have much drag and have good top speed.
You still need the mechanical grip between the tyre and the track. The balance is between enough downforce to keep the tyre on track, and not too much to put excess mass on the tyre.
British always tries to avoid giving credits to Max.. where they always gave full credit to Hamilton "another master class by lewis". Since Max or Alonso, its "look at how dominant the car is"' another "design miracle from Newey" whilst its actually a fun fact that Wache and his team who is the lead designer, NOT Newey. They constantly repeat Newey and Milton Keynes. Newey didnt touch the design of the RB18 and RB19. He did look at the suspension prevent the porpoising. British Sky tend to forget they are an internationally broadcasted channel and they should be as neutral as possible. Waché is actually the lead designer for RB. Adrian newey didn't design that much of the actual car and floor. He spent most of his research time on the suspension. In fact he was one of the only people to work on the suspension in Red Bull so that he could prevent porpoising.

Why didn't you wonder why the Mercedes was so dominant for 8 years? Red Bull's dominance comes solely from Verstappen. See Perez is always at least 0.5 seconds slower and, if everything goes well, comes from 5th to 7 th, after Verstappen, 2 fast Ferraris and 2 fast MacLarens and sometimes neither 2 Mercedes. The Redbull now has a handling problem caused by the shock absorbers and yet Max wins in Canada, Perez is among the last and even crashes. So one cannot speak of Red Bull dominance at all.
The redbull dominance is almost entirely the car. It was at least 7 tenths quicker than the competition. I think any driver on the grid could have won in Max's car

Without any doubt, Max can win in a Ferrari, a McLaren or a Mercedes. Every team manager wants Max He will prove it in the future. As a race engineer I have always said: “A good driver can win in a bad car, but a bad driver can’t even win in a good car”. Max is not a good driver, he is an exceptional driver. Even Eddie Jordan now says: “I am certain that Max would beat Michael Schumacher and even Ayrton Senna, don’t forget i know both very well as they have driven for me.”
One thing he’s missing. Car in front has all the downforce so tires degrade less. Car following close behind wears tires quicker due to less down force. Dirty air.
Well, there it is. The real problem is, the regs are SO incredibly complicated...and the cars have been made SO over-complicated...that this sort of thing is basically equivalent to chasing a bullet, while it is in flight. The teams will ALWAYS try to cheat...and they probably will get away with it...depending on how smart their engineers. F1 now is basically a bunch of competing space programs, running wheeled space capsules, not cars. The only answer is to simplify things, so that the regs allow the officials to catch up (and stay caught up) with the teams. Every season, it seems, some new technical scandal erupts. I seriously doubt, though, if the officials are even close to uncovering all of the "tricks" the teams have up their sleeves.

No one had a problem when it was their golden boy Hamilton dominating and winning championships with ease but ever since he was overtaken many Hamilton fans have searched high and low for any reason to justify Max taken over. I don't think any Hamilton backer or fan really wants to open the whole "what about the car" can of worms because if you're talking about actual straight up driving talent it's not even close. If you put those 2 in completely identical cars max is coming away winner at least 90% if the time.

Now also look at 2019 and 2020 for Verstappen his lack of mistakes and his growing consistency. was that late season 2013 when they were using exhaust gas around the diffuser for better low speed traction? but it was "not a blown diffuser" yet it was somehow using the same principle as 2010 cars. Singapore 2013 seb was immensely dominant, particularly in low speed corners (where as Martin Brundle says "there is more time to be lost/gained"). Sort of same with Max, I suspect red bull might even have like a form of TCS by optimizing the way the battery is deployed, that would be the cutting edge way to get TCS if I were a genius... look at RB traction out of slow speed corners

the only way to really test this, is if Max would run for another team in another teams car for a season. but i don't think Max himself, or Redbull, would want that. so unless a big scandal comes to light, Max is the G.O.A.T. He's already surpassed Senna.

Put the drivers in 1950's cars and let them fight it out on the 1950's tracks, in 1950' cars and we will discover who is the greatest driver - my money is on Jaun Manuel Fangio who wone 48% of the GP's that he started. He was a far better driver than any of the modern F1 drivers.

Max is just a champion at managing tyres period. It's why he is also the best on iRacing but IMO his time on iRacing is significant to his success in F1 and I would say the same about SVG's success in Supercars. The thing that IMO makes iRacing such an amazing tool for real life drivers in series where tyre management is critical to success is that iRacing's tyre model is unforgiving and forces this type of driving to achieve success in an exaggerated way but that makes it great for refining your driving. I think Lando is another example. I just keep looking at real life racers who are also iRacers and their level of success mirrors the time they put in on iRacing so that we have this scenario where iRacers seem to be rising to the top in real life motorsport and some notable cases where some are performing better than you might expect based on their car and team budget.
Finally, back to what racing was meant to be: man and machine at their peak performance VS others without an aid for poor performing cars in the form of DRS. I would rather watch one team tear up the first half of the year while other teams create new tech or designs to catch up. With all the mandatory specs that F1, as well as NASCAR, have there is little room for improvement......leading up to DRS being needed by F1, not necessarily the fans.

Adrian Newey has always been top of the class for designing his cars around ONE driver ! This gives the no1 driver a huge advantage ! but does mean the no2 driver is at a significant disadvantage ! Any driver that can jump into the no2 car at Rb and keep up with their no1 ? is without doubt a far better driver than the no1 ... Of course RB and Newey is NOT the lonly team doing this ! With Max this shows up more than with most other drivers as his style is a little more individual than most ! ... Put Max and Checo in say the Maclarens and we would find Checo winning a few races and Max struggling more at some tracks ,,, This is F1 ..

He has not been a full-time employee working on the Arrow side for well over 5 years. There was a point where he wasn't even really at Red Bull he was working on the Oracle sailboat. I know that everybody wants to know you to go to Ferrari or somewhere and. I just think he might want to take some time off and do things that aren't F1. Which is probably the only team that could interest him would be Ferrari so we could work on the hypercar and he can work on streetcars. And then there's the Williams ending his career we started his career in F1. I just don't think he likes the hustle and bustle of the circus the traveling constantly and specially it's all over the world it's not like it's just within a 6-hour plane ride. It's in a double digits or there is multiple layovers to get you to your destination. You may just want to go design whatever he wants to design. I don't know that he has that love for F1 anymore and especially with the direction in which the new rules were going he was not it was not very happy about the direction they were going in. So when we find out in June or July with the new Rags are going to be in 2026 he may decide to just completely walk away if it becomes far too dependent on the power unit.
Max has a driving style that suits these cars better. Red Bull has created a car that works around these rules and fits this driving style. Just an FYI, the 2022 regs were announced way back in 2018 or something like that. They were supposed to go live for the 2021 season but Covid put a halt on that. Wasn't just a decision made after Dubai 2021. Also the new regs of cars are nowhere near as much grip as the 2020 or 2021 cars.

So to the basics, why do other drivers stare at the RB, i think the answer is there in the design and RB have hit the nail on the head with it and no one can quite work out what is causing the minimum tyre degradation because its it something they cant see. Soft suspension wouldn't do in in my eyes but if you had a way to make it a 2 stage suspension it would open up a whole new world 🤔

That was a bit dull. Yes. Everyone knows that RB manage their tyres better. And the length of their tyre window, does indicate an aero reason for this. They have (ooooooppppsss) had Adrian Newey, so that's why they have proper aero solutions. And I think this is a weakness in other teams, rather than a RB strength, AN has experienced the whole underfloor aero routing battle before. Which other Engineer has???

What makes RB fast is it's Aero ... always about Aero. More HP can help overcome aero deficiency but nothing better than a great aero package, that's where lap times are improved the most.

There is a reason why Perez was trying a setup more like Max´s among other yrs back, but "shit is undrivable". I mean, give a Formula One driver a car that is built for them and they will do well, their team-mate not so much. Max is a good driver, but put him alongside anyone on that field and they will tell you he will sooner just crash into you out of frustration than race you. Therefore, I honestly don't see him on as high of a pedastool as people put him on. Red Bull have come a long way in recent years and are doing amazing things, most likely something which is going to crumble in coming years given recent drama but a lot of their success overall in F1 is thanks to Newey hands down. I hope to continue to see him in the sport to be honest. I would love to see him work with Lewis at Ferarri and see what they can produce.

You say there's five tire compounds, C0 through C5 (0,1,2,3,4,5 is six in total) and you show seven tiers with different colors. So is it five, six or seven different compounds? I'm confused. I'm also confused about why F1 has so much trouble figuring out venturi tunnels, which Indycar has been using for like 50 years now so it's not ground breaking technology.
It's five compounds of dry weather tyres, plus an intermediate and set tyre. So, seven types of tyres or compounds. As each team manufactures their cars they have different approaches to the design. With Indy car they buy cars from Dallara and have some freedom with the suspension.
F1 is a constructors championship. Cars and regs are changing all the time.... so the way the aero works changes all the time - downforce on F1 is massive compared to Indy. Indy car chassis doesn't change for more than ten years and changes are always delayed by years. Indy is years behind F1 in tech things like MGU-K/H
They rely on aero for the majority of their grip, it looks as if their aero is set up for a car a few millimetres taller which creates what I can only describe as “dead space” Basically as if you imagine a 3-5mm thickness sheet under the car in between the tyres

I think redbull have finessed their transmission/clutches to the point where it mechanically acts like traction control. Last race off the start line both redbull cars left straight whilst ferrari & Mclarens all squirreled off the line. They also spend their freepractice time concentrating on different lines through the slowest corners of the track, they're often 1/2 sec off the lap times in freepractice then put all the corners together and chase lap times once qualifing starts.

They have a really good suspension geometry that use the forces acting on the wheels (braking torque, acceleration, turning) to counter the tendancy of the car to roll. That allows them to use softer suspensions that are less hard on the tires.

Max Verstappen has been caught breaking the rules for an unknown amount of time (aka cheating). Yeah this video came out before all the news came out.
The insinuation that grownd effect cars came to be affter the final race between Hamilton and Versttappen is ridiculous. The rules had been ste at least one year prior. Every team was already working on their cars and not focussing on development since middle of the season.
The difference is simply Max. Not even a Max fan, but I have to admit that. Yes, it’s the best car on the grid, but between Max and Checo, Max is the only one who can pretty much guarantee 1st place every race. He’s just a different breed of driver. Not any driver can fully utilize what the car offers. There are currently only 3 drivers who have that “edge” that can wring every drop out of a car that fast, and that’s Max, Lewis, and Alonso. Shame Mercedes and Aston can’t put out equal machinery cuz if they did, it would be one heck of a fight up front, akin to what we saw in 2021.
I just don’t see Hamilton being able to wring anything out of his car. Maybe it’s just the Ferrari lights in front of his eyes.
Checo isn't the 2nd best driver on the grid. But the standings say he is. The reason is the RB20. Max + RB20 is a different level however.
To those who say that they only won because they had the best car..... Yes, Newey designs the best cars (more often than not), but no team ever had the best car and thought "shall we save ourselves some money and put in an average driver seeing as the car is so quick?" Mansell, Prost, Hill, Villeneuve, Hakkinen, Vettle, Verstappen were all worthy champions who EARNED the seat of the best car on the grid.
But some drivers don't need the fastests cars to win championships. Verstappen is proving that this year.

Seb had real skill + class unlike Verstappen , a mediocre driver in the fastest car .
In 2010 Adrian Newey introduced the powerful exhaust-blown diffuser that greatly increased downforce... It required a new engine mapping and driving technique. Seb was successfully taught this technique - but Mark Webber (much more experienced in F1) found this technique counter-intuitive, which put him (and all non-Newey cars) at a disadvantage.
Exhaust blowing was no longer allowed by the FIA and in 2014 Seb became the first defending F1 World Champion to fail to win a race since 1998. The FIA had also introduced those nasty Pirelli tyres designed to reduce the Red Bull advantage - most successfully! Seb struggled with that, and moved to Ferrari, but never found his original Newey Red Bull Mojo again. Sometimes it is a winning _combination_ of car and driver that succeeds.😉

Tire lifespan is only due to better aerodynamics...
If you have enough downforce, you don't rely as much on machanical grip...
If that downforce is eficient, then you dont have much drag and have good top speed.
You still need the mechanical grip between the tyre and the track. The balance is between enough downforce to keep the tyre on track, and not too much to put excess mass on the tyre.
British always tries to avoid giving credits to Max.. where they always gave full credit to Hamilton "another master class by lewis". Since Max or Alonso, its "look at how dominant the car is"' another "design miracle from Newey" whilst its actually a fun fact that Wache and his team who is the lead designer, NOT Newey. They constantly repeat Newey and Milton Keynes.
Newey didnt touch the design of the RB18 and RB19. He did look at the suspension prevent the porpoising.
British Sky tend to forget they are an internationally broadcasted channel and they should be as neutral as possible. Newey isn‘t even the main designer of the RB18/19 and now 20. He obviously is the highest ranking person in the technical team of RB but he also focuses a lot of his time on the RB17 project. Waché is actually the lead designer for RB.

Why didn't you wonder why the Mercedes was so dominant for 8 years? Red Bull's dominance comes solely from Verstappen. See Perez is always at least 0.5 seconds slower and, if everything goes well, comes from 5th to 7 th, after Verstappen, 2 fast Ferraris and 2 fast MacLarens and sometimes neither 2 Mercedes. The Redbull now has a handling problem caused by the shock absorbers and yet Max wins in Canada, Perez is among the last and even crashes. So one cannot speak of Red Bull dominance at all.
The redbull dominance is almost entirely the car. It was at least 7 tenths quicker than the competition. I think any driver on the grid could have won in Max's car

Well, there it is. The real problem is, the regs are SO incredibly complicated...and the cars have been made SO over-complicated...that this sort of thing is basically equivalent to chasing a bullet, while it is in flight.
The teams will ALWAYS try to cheat...and they probably will get away with it...depending on how smart their engineers. F1 now is basically a bunch of competing space programs, running wheeled space capsules, not cars.
The only answer is to simplify things, so that the regs allow the officials to catch up (and stay caught up) with the teams. Every season, it seems, some new technical scandal erupts. I seriously doubt, though, if the officials are even close to uncovering all of the "tricks" the teams have up their sleeves.

No one had a problem when it was their golden boy Hamilton dominating and winning championships with ease but ever since he was overtaken many Hamilton fans have searched high and low for any reason to justify Max taken over. I don't think any Hamilton backer or fan really wants to open the whole "what about the car" can of worms because if you're talking about actual straight up driving talent it's not even close. If you put those 2 in completely identical cars max is coming away winner at least 90% if the time.

Max is just a champion at managing tyres period. It's why he is also the best on iRacing but IMO his time on iRacing is significant to his success in F1 and I would say the same about SVG's success in Supercars. The thing that IMO makes iRacing such an amazing tool for real life drivers in series where tyre management is critical to success is that iRacing's tyre model is unforgiving and forces this type of driving to achieve success in an exaggerated way but that makes it great for refining your driving. I think Lando is another example. I just keep looking at real life racers who are also iRacers and their level of success mirrors the time they put in on iRacing so that we have this scenario where iRacers seem to be rising to the top in real life motorsport and some notable cases where some are performing better than you might expect based on their car and team budget.
Finally, back to what racing was meant to be: man and machine at their peak performance VS others without an aid for poor performing cars in the form of DRS. I would rather watch one team tear up the first half of the year while other teams create new tech or designs to catch up. With all the mandatory specs that F1, as well as NASCAR, have there is little room for improvement......leading up to DRS being needed by F1, not necessarily the fans.

Adrian Newey has always been top of the class for designing his cars around ONE driver ! This gives the no1 driver a huge advantage ! but does mean the no2 driver is at a significant disadvantage ! Any driver that can jump into the no2 car at Rb and keep up with their no1 ? is without doubt a far better driver than the no1 ... Of course RB and Newey is NOT the lonly team doing this ! With Max this shows up more than with most other drivers as his style is a little more individual than most ! ... Put Max and Checo in say the Maclarens and we would find Checo winning a few races and Max struggling more at some tracks ,,, This is F1 ..

He has not been a full-time employee working on the Arrow side for well over 5 years. There was a point where he wasn't even really at Red Bull he was working on the Oracle sailboat. I know that everybody wants to know you to go to Ferrari or somewhere and. I just think he might want to take some time off and do things that aren't F1. Which is probably the only team that could interest him would be Ferrari so we could work on the hypercar and he can work on streetcars. And then there's the Williams ending his career we started his career in F1. I just don't think he likes the hustle and bustle of the circus the traveling constantly and specially it's all over the world it's not like it's just within a 6-hour plane ride. It's in a double digits or there is multiple layovers to get you to your destination. You may just want to go design whatever he wants to design. I don't know that he has that love for F1 anymore and especially with the direction in which the new rules were going he was not it was not very happy about the direction they were going in. So when we find out in June or July with the new Rags are going to be in 2026 he may decide to just completely walk away if it becomes far too dependent on the power unit.

Max has a driving style that suits these cars better. Red Bull has created a car that works around these rules and fits this driving style. Just an FYI, the 2022 regs were announced way back in 2018 or something like that. They were supposed to go live for the 2021 season but Covid put a halt on that. Wasn't just a decision made after Dubai 2021. Also the new regs of cars are nowhere near as much grip as the 2020 or 2021 cars.

So to the basics, why do other drivers stare at the RB, i think the answer is there in the design and RB have hit the nail on the head with it and no one can quite work out what is causing the minimum tyre degradation because its it something they cant see. Mf started watching F1 yesterday and forgot where Verstappen was when he didn't have the supposedly "best" car.
That was a bit dull. Yes. Everyone knows that RB manage their tyres better. And the length of their tyre window, does indicate an aero reason for this. They have (ooooooppppsss) had Adrian Newey, so that's why they have proper aero solutions.
And I think this is a weakness in other teams, rather than a RB strength, AN has experienced the whole underfloor aero routing battle before. Which other Engineer has???

@@jeanmarkakessler4810 The suspension is both soft and stiff ... how is that possible when FIA/F1 have strict rules over dampers (mass dampers are banned). What makes RB fast is it's Aero ... always about Aero. More HP can help overcome aero deficiency but nothing better than a great aero package, that's where lap times are improved the most.
@@robainscough The aero makes them fast but the suspension allows them to be fast for longer than all other teams. You can see in the example he showed of McLaren on Brazil, where McLaren was maybe just as fast as the RB but had higher degradation so Max was able to run away.

There is a reason why Perez was trying a setup more like Max´s among other yrs back, but "shit is undrivable". The difference is extremely small, and the biggest equalizer that makes them exceed other teams is Max.

I mean, give a Formula One driver a car that is built for them and they will do well, their team-mate not so much. Max is a good driver, but put him alongside anyone on that field and they will tell you he will sooner just crash into you out of frustration than race you. Therefore, I honestly don't see him on as high of a pedastool as people put him on. Red Bull have come a long way in recent years and are doing amazing things, most likely something which is going to crumble in coming years given recent drama but a lot of their success overall in F1 is thanks to Newey hands down. I hope to continue to see him in the sport to be honest. I would love to see him work with Lewis at Ferarri and see what they can produce.

You say there's five tire compounds, C0 through C5 (0,1,2,3,4,5 is six in total) and you show seven tiers with different colors. So is it five, six or seven different compounds? I'm confused. I'm also confused about why F1 has so much trouble figuring out venturi tunnels, which Indycar has been using for like 50 years now so it's not ground breaking technology.
It's five compounds of dry weather tyres, plus an intermediate and set tyre. So, seven types of tyres or compounds.
As each team manufactures their cars they have different approaches to the design. With Indy car they buy cars from Dallara and have some freedom with the suspension.
F1 is a constructors championship.
Cars and regs are changing all the time.... so the way the aero works changes all the time - downforce on F1 is massive compared to Indy.
Indy car chassis doesn't change for more than ten years and changes are always delayed by years.
Indy is years behind F1 in tech things like MGU-K/H
They rely on aero for the majority of their grip, it looks as if their aero is set up for a car a few millimetres taller which creates what I can only describe as “dead space”
Basically as if you imagine a 3-5mm thickness sheet under the car in between the tyres
