Excellent video! I sure wish speedway was more popular in the States. A childhood friend of mine introduced me to Speedway, and raced himself in Auburn, and Costa Mesa, CA. I spent alot of time helping him at home, and eventually worked my way into the pits at a handful of races. A 50hp bicycle with no brakes or gears, Yeah 👍
Aaah, two of the tracks I personally have raced on, Auburn and Costa Mesa, along with Ascot, Glen Helen, Victorville, Ventura. The was difference, I did it on 3 wheels, yeah the Speedway sidecar. Who did you pit for? I knew a few guys..Ermalenko, Schwartz, Hancock, etc
Thanks Dan..Enjoyed that..👍 I'm an Old Amateur dirttacker from Canada.. Absolutely Love watching Speedway though, looking forward to witnessing Your Efforts in 2023.!! We'll be Cheering for You from Ontario.!! 🍻 🇬🇧✊🇨🇦
10 seconds difference to me is plenty different. Speedway bike is specifically made for these small manicured d.g. dirt tracks. Flat trackers prefer larger tracks with long straights, preferably 1/2 - 1 mile.
I would love to ride a Speedway bike, not so popular in the US. In the 70's I used to dream of speedway spending hours going in circles around our barn on my Yamaha GT-80.
2.5 seconds per lap difference means the speedway bike was pulling away from the flat tracker by 230 to 240 feet per lap! To lazy to do the real math right now ;)
Obviously two different but similar disciplines. Woul be cool to have a series where speedway riders and flat trackers competed on both types of bike on their respective types of track.
Speedway is smaller fast and dangerous.need lots of control here.flat track more open but has more speed on big tracks can get crazy too.alwas loved both types of these dirt track races.
Awesome video,I think speedway is great and I wish it was more popular in America.Speedway is definitely faster on short tracks but you can't race tt's or miles on a speedway bike, still very cool tho.
when I was younger .I'm 54 now but I had a Suzuki tm 400 circle track race bike it set low and was a bit longer than normal .and I didn't know it was a circle track bike but it had a normal dirt tire on back and front witch normaly it wouldn't have but we had a Lil over a 14 mile stretch of tar road across street and I went there to try the bike .I could not keep front wheel planted nor hardly give it any throttle no matter what gear .but I tell ya it was a mean bike .but here is the funny thing my nephew was about 350 plus heavey .so he tried it so he made it to the end and went around the building and started back and hit 5th and punched it and it went straight up and he went off and tank went one way and seat another .needless to say we sold it but ya if there not used for what there intended for watch out lol .sorry so long .I just had to say this .godbless and stay safe
@@rosslamont5434 , 10 60ths slower? So 1/6 . So 16.66% slower. So if the speedway bike averaged 60 mph, the flatteack bike averaged 50. A big diff, ya, but ok, not as much as expected. But it still wasn't slow. It was good to watch the fast getting used to the flatteack bike, smoother and faster every lap. I was continually impressed with the speed of the speedway bike. What beautiful skill into the turn and in it. THanX fer showing!
Nice work lad ill gess the flat track bike has abit more weight up higher marra looks like you have that bugger under control as well ok hello from austrailia the millers lol
There was this time I went to Ellicottviile on my Harley. I used to take the back roads, it was a short cut. It was made of dirt & gravel there was this Hot Dog Fest going on. I left money on the counter, I was so mad!!! That place dosen't exist anymore, keep pricing us t of the marcket ???
Having ridden both bikes myself, I'd say the main difference is in throttle control. When a track is prepared properly, a speedway bike is ridden WFO or throttle pinned and the rider uses body English to get through the corners. The flat track bike is ridden WFO until the riders eyes get really big, then jam on the back brake, screwing the throttle back on at the earliest opportunity. The fastest dirt track riders mostly ride flat out, but still use the brake to bring that back end around.
This 500cc alcohol bike is really a dust feeder for your mouth😆lovin it...btw speedway is mostly leaning left 20 to 45 deg whole time and always full throtlle no brake at all except with that sliding tire🤟
Speedway bike are great on the tracks designed for them but in the US its mostly half mile or 3/8 and a speedway bike wouldnt have a chance at 140 mph.On the other hand on a shot track a flat track bike would get creamed.
Lool at long speedway. Tracks has around 1km,top speed 125+ mph. Engine is the same as classic speedway, but bike had 2speed gearbox. First gear is only for start.
I'd say you're in your element on a speedway bike just as a dirt track rider would be on it switch it up and obviously they will be slower than the other bike they don't ride most of the time even if it is the same type because it's not setup to there liking... anyway dig the video
As someone who used to watch speedway in the 70s, the bikes have not changed much. Quieter, mudguards, and banana forks, but no real tech , unlike moto gp

Love Auburn raced there in 80 & 81 before it became Fast Fridays. Love that track.
Right! I vote speedway usa all day lol its sooo frickin exciting!!

Its 85+ hp bycicle these days...

Very gifted young bloke. World champ in the making

Both purest forms of Racing.Woffington fan here!. Love Speedway. Wish it had bigger following in USA.😊

Me to I had a 79cc Suzuki in the 60s use to go to Sydney Showground speedway
Dan Bewley .... faster than a wind turbine ! ✌️✌️🇬🇧🇬🇧
What a nice track the new Workington track looks well done to all concerned for getting speedway back in Cumbria back next year!
Yeah great looking track...fast.
Workington comets?? Back in the 70's I remember them racing at Peterbrough
the Speed way is mind-blowing
Really cool comparison. Love that slow mo at the end.
Looking pretty good on the dirt track bike, classic Mert Lawwill position
10 seconds over roughly a minute is a BIG difference.
Counter steering pro.
Yeah but Dan is a world class speedway rider and a complete novice on those flat track bikes. And I say that as a speedway fan.

Apple's & Oranges.Totally different EVERYTHING..
yes, but interesting
Potentially a good bridge for many with mx background to give flat track a go and then speedway if they like it
You are riding the flat track bike like a speedway bike ,very smooth.
Low center of gravity is the key small tight bike is gonna have the best of all
Which type of bike did the man in the wheelchair ride?
Awesome video,I think speedway is great and I wish it was more popular in America.Speedway is definitely faster on short tracks but you can't race tt's or miles on a speedway bike, still very cool tho.
We have long speedway track here in europe. 1lap has around 1km. Top speed around 125mph.
What is behind the tire and what is it used for? Curios I’ve always loved watching the races but it much knowledge on the bikes/equipment.
Its Like mudflaps on a rally car
Nice bikes love the flat track racing, Good stuff Homie 👍

The Flat Track Bike to me looked a lot slower but from what Dan said there wasn’t a huge difference?
10 seconds, that's a massive difference!
That's why it was so obviously slower.
It is slower but not by as much as I would have thought
@@danbewleyDITV Thanks Dan!

Love the vlogs keep it up 👊🏻
Always wanted to try this style of riding. Where is this track ?
You should come do the last meeting at the dtra would be sick to see you race there
Flat track bikes are badass!!! You guys are maniacs for sure.!!

I likw the Speedway better
me too, and im in US
It would be good to see you back at Scunny for the last of the summer series/ start of the winter series!
I like flat track but Speedway just looks like so much fun. Are they 500cc machines?
Yes. 500ccm powered by methanol. Around 80-85hp in basic trim. Probably around 95 at GP events...

I LOVE BOTH SPEEDWAY AND FLATTRACK.
Muy espectacular 😊
Very different steering geometries and centres of gravity.
Dirt track=steer with the front wheel Speedway = steer with the rear wheel 👍
Where is the Jawa? Here in the states I used to watch flat tracking, they were all Jawas.
What's a Jawa Dan?

hey! he letting off the throttle on the flat bike in the corners not the way the big boys do it in AMA pro flat track.
Cool stuff. I hate seeing those damn windmills in the background tho.
Pretend they're smoke stacks
I wanna go!
Cool 💪

Long tracks are 800 yards
Speedway bike looks a lot faster to me. On the pipe all the way around....my opinion.
He's not riding the flat track bike with the aggressiveness that he rode his speedway bike. Put Sammy Halbert on the flat track bike and race.
🔥❤
Come on belle vue
Tire tred matters...
This should be a speedway bike vs. a moto cross bike. Just sayin.
Would like to see this with a real flat track bike, with a proper frame built for flat track.
That is what flat track bikes are nowadays
Speedway bike is powerfull than dirtbike
քʀօʍօֆʍ 💦
Get some water on the track is disgusting dry as hell
