  • Salt used to treat roads during the winter is common and so is the vehicle damage that can be caused by the corrosive material.

Why on earth would you idiots keep doing this to your roads, environments, and your cars???
Up here in Alaska, we don't do this. That's a hint.

Exactly. I spent winters in the mountains of WA and OR and never had an issue in the snow. It’s called AWD, 4x4, chains, and knowing how to actually drive. The big 3 here in the region must be lobbying the government to salt the roads so the idiots here in the Midwest keep buying POS domestics the Midwest is the dumbest and least impressive region.

I drove a Yellow Cab in NYC 1993-2016, went through automatic car washes many times when temp was below freezing - never once had locks frozen.

Wow man thats a long fucking time driving a cab in New York. What's that like? Why did you do it for so long and how was the pay? Just genuinely curious, you don't have to answer.

I really wish they’d stop destroying the roads/cars by using salt cause it’s “cheaper” and decades later when they can’t afford to fix the roads when they opt to use salt instead of biting the bullet and using something a little more expensive now rather than concoct ways to raise money to fix the bridges and cars that salt destroys. Use sugar for all I care. Who gives a shit if it costs 2/3 times what salt does. When your car is falling apart after 7 years of winter driving you’ll be thankful you voted for proper winter road clearing. It’s not like they are out there everyday anyways. When a storm hits they are salting for what 15-20 hours? Do the math and pay for something more expensive now. Or deal with driving something like your car all day everyday that’s eatin alive by rust from salt. Or enjoy having taxes raised to cover the cost of bridges collapsing or about to collapse cause it’s costs too damn much money to fix. Gotta love the logic

It really is ridiculous. The other morning a sanding truck drove slowly through our neighborhood... spreading a thick coat of sand and salt on the road. Guess what... it was sunny out and 40°!! I called the DPW... they said there had been snow flurries overnight. 😒
Unreal. Our town hires small landscaping companies to maintain the roads... if there's even a hint of snow in the forecast, they are out dumping chemicals everywhere... just to get more cash.

When weather is warm enough, After a storm I put 2 lawn oscillating lawn sprinklers on my driveway. Fore & aft. Then really slow drive my truck over them, stopping to let them rinse the salt off. So far so good only had to replace 1 hidden brake line in just under 14 years. Also wash rest of truck as often as weather permits.

Keep your "nice" vehicles inside all winter. Use a pos beater for winter. If my pos 97 impreza I just got blows up, I'd just have it sitting around until I can put a Toyota motor in it.. and then it should go for a while after that.
Or just live in the south... kind of an ocean, but no snow or salt. Alot of retired old people and hillbillies crashing into Dollar Generals down there...
My first 18 years, Alabama. The next 5 years, Michigan. I didn't even know what rust was until Michigan.

If the people did a vote I bet we would agree to not use salt at all! Cyinders and drive slower better then rotted vehicles. I fluid film the living hell out of our vehicles it really helps but one hell of a mess when working on them. But still better then rot
