Jim said he'd love to come back IF the script is good enough.
That's probably why they chose to do Shadow for the third movie, since it's such a serious story.

I just hope they focus more on the talking animals than weird b plots that dont really make sens and just feels akward and boring.
Like its like they put that wedding in for the grown ups, but it felt more childish than the all the Sonic Tail Knuckles parts.
Once again proving that Sonic - even tho his 90s no F atitude should on the paper be annoying - is just a fun character that you cant be mad at.
Hes flawed and that whats makes him great, and Knuckles was absolute fantastic!
it really soled the move how he held Sonic back with one hand.
At times its hard for me not to over look how uncanny the big eyed creatures are when they talk with humans ( maybe its the fact that the actors are talking to air and dont know where to look) but its quikly blowed away by the fun heartwarming story and Jim over the top energy selling his evilnes.
What i wish from a 3 movie is honstly just more Jim more doctor robotnick evil robots and more S90nic with that blue shining confidence.
And more epic fights! yes please.
All that and Shadow is a huge money maker, what with being one of the most if not the second most popular/iconic Sonic character other than Sonic himself and being introduced in what is widly regarded as one of the best sonic games to date.
Jim is already confirmed to be back for the third movie to finish off the trilogy before he retires since working on these movies helped him cope with the death of his wife.
No, Sonic 3 is happening regardless, but Rggman coming back is dependent on Jim. Jim did say Sonic is the only thing he'd actually be willing to continue doing, I believe, since he has a niece that likes Sonic a lot

I can't think of a better way for Carrey to end his carrier than not only playing one of the most famous video game characters in history, but also capping off his first and only trilogy.
The comedy, action, the build-up of Sonic's friendship with Tails and eventually Knuckles, Jim Carrey's performance, and the Master Emerald. This sequel is just so epic than it needed to be

49:37 they actually did use the water music it was just a soft orchestral version of it instead of it's usual anxiety inducing version. It was easier to hear in the theaters.
Sigh wish it was loud enough and not treated like a faint Easter egg. I don't understand why composer Tom Holkenborg can't simply incorporate any Sonic music/songs in these movies.🤷🏻
I can't wait till the 3rd movie is out, Shadow is one of my favorite characters, I just hope Amy is introduced as she is a big part of his story.

Amy was the only one to convince Shadow, no one else, so if that changes, yikes.

Also so far they've been going off the games/shows for story what makes you think they'll go so far off the beaten path as to not introduce an extremely important character relevant to the plot?
I think it would be a good idea. The 2nd was about finding a squad. The 3rd can be about being lonely as a Hedgehog. Have Amy be Tails's friend, who protected him from bullies like Sonic originally did. She follows Tails to earth cause he ran away and she's like his sister. Meanwhile, Shadow may or may not be a fake Hedgehog. It can be a whole identity thing that Shadow and Sonic briefly talk about. Tails and Knuckles will still be heavily involved. Tails as a backup to Sonic and tech wiz to learn about Shadow, Knuckles fighting Shadow to protect the emerald, and Amy ridiculing Sonic for being reckless while being overprotective of her little brother. Then we can have Amy connect to Shadow about protecting family and being willing to do anything for your sibling, ending with their scene in Sonic Adventure 2.
Oh, I just thought of something. Amy could attack Knuckles when they meet. Then Knuckles could feel the need to teach Amy his fighting style later so a part of his tribe lives on.

Like it was fun sure, at least somewat, but it could have been alot shorter, I was just feeling like "why im i watching random people i dont know goffing around in a silly consept that has big plot holes, when i could be watching Jim Carrey-ing the show and Sonic.
Also Tails, they had Tails in this movie, and Super Sonic! freaking legend, and yet Knuckles really was the surprise best bonus character.

The appearance of the side characters needs to be kept to a minimum. People come to the Sonic movies to see Sonic.
Jim Carey said he's retired, but he's still checking movie scripts and he said if one likes it enough he'll take the role.

Going by what we've seen, don't sleep on Longclaw. It looks like she managed to take out Knuckles entire clan by herself, while injured, before going out.
Yeah, think she was the last standing but died form the injuries.

Honstly a owl that size could take down planes, imagen that coming flying silently in the knight able to pick kill a man with one stike.

Yeah now that I think about it, in the movie lore they implied that the Owl clan and the Echidna clan have been battling for centuries.
If we assume that every member of the Echidnas is around the same strength level as Knuckles, that would mean the Owls must be crazily powerful too in order to battle with them equally for centuries.

While the reveal of Tails spying on Sonic is pretty creepy, Sonic himself stalked Tom and Macy for at least 3 years. Tails at most spied on Sonic for only a year. But Tails was aware of the legend of Sonic from their home planet and never saw the side of him that was alone. So I understand the initial reaction to Tails stalking him but Sonic is no different. This actually just shows how alike the two are bros4life

Always nice to see new fans to a misunderstood franchise. Also so hilarious in any franchise when the unfamiliar misinterpret the lore like Knucks and Shadow being the same person.
Misunderstood is a understatement sonic has been on a hit list after 06 it was a easy target
And the fans like Chris Chan ruin our chances of being seen as a cool fandom to join! Hell, I was terrified of becoming a Sonic fan because I have autism and tends to get into something deeply. Thankfully, I have allowed myself to like Sonic and just be me (With the knowledge of the reputation that Sonic + Autism can have together). But I truly wish more people opened up and wasn't so easy to push aside our likes.
Two details:
1.- The name of the coffe shop is the Mean Bean, is a reference of a game, Dr. Robotnik's Bean Machine.
2.- The manual Eggman made of the giant robot is literally made after the box of a sega game.
As a Shadow fan, the slight slander hurt my soul but then it immediately bounced back imagining Shadow witnessing 9/11 and I shouldn't have laughed that hard at the thought! Also, this version of Knuckles is by far my favorite because his way of speech and behavior gives off Starfire from Teen Titans and I like the idea. Plus, my personal beliefs is that he still sorta talks like that for all versions in the beginning but due to his environment, Knuckles speaks with a more "modern" speech pattern. He still talks like that tho.
Anyway, great reaction and I loved the video!
About Shadow, he wasn't just conceived as a simple "edgy character", he did have a bit of nuance and development to him in Adventure 2. Unfortunately, later games sometimes oversimplify or even misrepresent him, but his connection with Rouge and Omega is nice.
His absence in Frontiers makes me wonder if they might re-assess their approach to his character in the future; it gave Sonic's main 3 friends some proper attention, and opens the way for others to be handled as such in the future
@@Axxidous I'd say season 3 of Sonic X was where he started to get the reputation of being Edgy the Hedgy. But he's actually supposed to be more brooding than edgy, and yes there is a telling difference.
Considering how he is in Sonic Prime, the serious yin to Sonic's hyperactive yang, you might be onto something in terms of them re-assessing his characterization. Cause my GOD Shads was so good there.
@@SBaby Which is funny cause there are more moments in season 3 where he's just serious, not edgy....unless you count the time he tried to murder Cosmo but he HAD a legitimate reasoning to do so in his head. Which is what makes Shads such an interesting character; he's not so black and white himself, but he does view the world as very black and white. Shadow would be the type of character to make you feel like no one could harm you...but the one who COULD is right next to you lol. I often wonder why he's such a huge comfort character for me....considering he's a walking contradiction.
@@TheRibottoStudios The thing about him trying to kill Cosmo is I tend to give him a pass on that because he wasn't thinking straight. At that point, Molly had recently been killed by the Metarex and the main thing on his mind was revenge. So pretty much anything that had any connection to the Metarex was automatically a target.
But yes, normally I always imagined him as a sort of dark knight type of character. Not really edgy, but definitely broody. But the kind of character that could also give sage advice.
Ironically, it's Tails that could actually take out Sonic and all of his friends if he actually had to. He has a 300 IQ and a photographic memory. Creating contingencies for each one of them wouldn't be a sweat.
@@TheRibottoStudios Sonic Prime is one of the best portrayals of Shadow I've seen in a long time. As I've said before in previous videos, in the hands of the right writers, amazing things can be done with Shadow. I am cautiously optimistic with Sonic 3 in that Jeff Fowler should understand this.
what I find "Interesting" is these three kids could actually be adopted as a band of Brothers trio from different ages. Knuckles being a year older than Sonic and Tails being half of Knuckles's age.

Knuckles the Echidna is 16 years old (Power Type)
Sonic the Hedgehog is 15 years old (Speed Type)
And Miles "Tails" Prower is 8 years old (Fly Type)

They didn't say the third movie wouldn't happen if Jim Carrey didn't come back; they just said that Robotnik won't appear in the third movie if Jim doesn't come back. They aren't recasting Robotnik.

A little Easter Egg that I love in the movie in case you guys are unaware @45:28 notice the cafe Stone setup is called Mean Bean coffee co. There was a Sonic Spinoff of I believe Puyo Puyo called Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine on Sega. My friends and I loved it haha.

Slight correction: Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine was not a spinoff of Puyo Puyo, rather it's how SEGA of America brought Puyo Puyo to the west.
They thought the game wouldn't sell well, so they put a Sonic skin on the game in order to make it succeed in America

For some insight on Shadow: he's the Vegeta to Sonic's Goku. I mean that entirely literally, until a few months ago SEGA had a clause in all their contracts for licencing that basically said 'If you portray Shadow, you are not permitted to show him as a developing character, he will stay the edgy rival to Sonic and that's all he can be'. I think they only started relaxing that this year, it was a nightmare for people doing the comics and stuff.

My theory is that Longclaw completely decimated Knuckles' tribe in battle, but then she succumbed to her own injuries and died right after. That's the only explanation for why it seemed like she never went looking for Sonic or why no one went back to the village to get Knuckles.
And to think that in the original version of the script, Longclaw was supposed to go to Earth with Sonic where she continued to raise him until dying of old age but it was scrapped.
Okay, so in the games (mostly based on Sonic Adventure 1), the ancient "Knuckles" clan of echidnas what is a warring tribe, and they were at war with another clan of echidnas. Their neighbors were a mythical, peaceful species called the Chao, and they were being protected by a being called Chaos. They also looked after the shrine of the Master Emerald and the Chaos Emeralds. One day, the chief of the Knuckles clan, Pachacamac, wanted to steal the Master Emerald's power from the Choa to use in war, but his daughter Tikal urged him not to. He didn't listen, and the Knuckles clan proceded to decemate the Chao, angering Chaos, who proceded to decemate the Echidnas. In a last ditch effort, Tikal used a spell (I don't know how else you'd describe it) that trapped both Chaos and herself inside the Master Emerald. There were very few of the Echidnas left, and generations down the line, Knuckles (named after the clan) would be the only one left. Knuckles considers it his duty now to gaurd the Master Emerald, though he knows not why or the history of it other than the fact that it holds great and dangerous power.
Also, forgot to mention, but something else happens to the other clan.
They pretty much confirmed that we’re getting a sequel next year plus a knuckles spinoff this year.

They outright confirmed Sonic Movie 3 when the second one came out. There is no 'pretty much', it's straight up been known about this whole time.

I got some things to say. 1, I believe the whole GUN plot line with the wedding was direct setup to the third movie, where they will play a bigger part. 2, Robotnic being "not found" at the end even tho it very much looked like he died is a safe hazard for if Jim Carry wants to return in a future film. Right now, he's retired, but if he wants to return, he can, and it would be justified with that one line at the very end.

I haven't seen anyone talk about it but there was a prequel comic for this movie that explains more of the miniscule details like the origins of Blue Justice
One more important detail that gets explained is who the guys Knuckles was with were. Basically they're called Scavengers and as far as we know they're trackers that run Casino Night Zone which is a level in Sonic 2 and they capture random people and creatures then hold tournaments for spectators to bet on
There's also a Team Chaotix reference so they confirmed exist
Yes, Chaotix indeed exists in the movie universe. Whether or not they'll show up in movie 3 remains to be seen (personally, I'd rather have Amy in movie 3 and Chaotis in movie 4). But they are indeed a thing.
Here's an interesting point someone brought up that I didn't think about, even though it's staring ALL OF US right in the face. Someone OTHER than a Hedgehog turned Super (it was a different appearance, but not all Super forms look alike). This is way more significant than people realize, because it means the movie universe has established that ANYONE can turn Super. It's not just limited to Hedgehogs. This opens doors that most people probably aren't thinking of.
Ikr. What i really came to like about this movie is that not only does it adepte the source material well, but it also gave us something never before seen in the games

@@victoriam.4927 This is true, and we saw Robotnik attain a Super form. It looks different from Sonic's (because no two Super forms look the same), but it opens a door that hasn't been opened in anything outside of the classic games and some of the comics. Super forms are not limited to Hedgehogs in the movie continuity.
This is the kind of thing Sonic X wanted to do, but never could.
FUN FACT: The Drowning tune is actually incorporated into the music during that scene, but you gotta pay attention to it because it is a bit brief.

The name GUN is a parody of SHIELD from the Marvel universe. Using a gun for the acronym is pretty fitting given their history - GUN in the games is initally presented a lot like the Marines in One Piece, in that they have an absolute justice policy and have gone to extremes in the past to carry it out, and have more than a few skeletons in their closet that they wanna keep hidden. By the end of Shadow's game they started mellowing out. The Commander during Shadow's game is shown to be more like Sengoku, someone who's more interested in protecting people than preserving GUN's image, and I'm pretty sure that's who the Olive Garden Guy is supposed to be, though it's not a 1-to-1 thing.
Both this & Puss in Boots: The Last Wish had a "and your little dog, too!" line from their main villain (Eggman & Jack Horner), lmao
(At 59:16) Sonic: You see, Eggman… you're not dealing with the "average" Hedgehog anymore.
I like that Tom doesn't frown on Sonic wanting to be a hero and use his abilities to help people, he just wants Sonic to think everything through a little more before he does it and take better care about the collateral damage.
I think the ones that were guardians of the Master Emerald (on the game) were the Echidnas that survived Perfect Chaos Wrath, they named him as "the god of destruction" and guard the master emerald so it doesn't get in the wrong hands and stop everyone that try to use it's power because that could bring chaos back, but with the passage of time, that knowledge of Chaos was lost, to the point that the Echidnas that protected the emerald did not really know why they did it, they only did it because it was their duty.

The death egg robot looks so DUCKING COOL in the movie
A few things i like to mention.
-Not only is Knuckles being on Robotniks side due to misunderstanding canon (It was like that in Knuckles introduction), but Knuckles being able to punch the master emerald out of robotnik is also a refference to Knuckles' introduction, where he punched the Emeralds out of Super Sonic.
-I also wanna compare the temple to Angel Island, though i need to rewatch the movie myself.
-Oh yeah, and the little push with the foot as Super Sonic? It's a Sonic 06 refference.
-(Again, i really wanna add more rn, but i need to rewatch the movies and revisit some sonic media to pick everything out).

Anyway, the temple is based on an actual Zone from the games. So it's not Angel Island. I think Angel Island COULD be in the movies, but that it'll be later (if the movies keep going past 3). Keep in mind it doesn't fly unless the Master Emerald is on the altar.
Oh my god, rewatching this after Knuckles’s spinoff that whole discussion of wade and his sister saying they know someone from Gun and how they were saying that sounds fake is hilarious to me now because there IS an actual corporation called Gun in their universe! 😂
Having Shadow being written correctly isn't the only VERY important thing that the Sonic 3 movie needs, it also VERY much needs the song "Live and learn" from the rock band Crush 40 to be playing during the climax of it at the right time! That song is the main theme of Sonic Adventure 2 and from research, seems to be 1 of the most popular songs ever made for a videogame, an absolutely awsome one that HAS to be put into the upcoming third Sonic movie!
It almost doesn't matter WHERE they put 'Live and Learn', as long as it's there in the movie and the scene matters. It doesn't have to happen when they turn Super. It could happen when the gang is flying toward the big bad or something in a new plane or jet or whatever Tails decides to build this time. As long as the scene is an important one, it'll be fine.
Also put City Escape in there, even if they're just listening to it on the radio.

It’s just not blatant. If you listen really close at the part where Sonic has his hand out as Knuckles swims away, it plays a part of the underwater jingle in the score.

(At 4:05) that explosion that was caused from his makeshift satellite, what's the result of him successfully sending a beacon. Which drew the attention of these three lizard warriors called "Scavengers" searching for that blue energy.
Knuckles is said to be as strong as Sonic is fast, so he is hella strong.
One thing i really would have loved to see, even though i know it would never happen is Fleetway Super Sonic. Ya know when Knuckles was worried about Super Sonic being not himself? Yeah, this version gives that some real ground.
Who knows? Maybe we'll get Dark Sonic at some point.

As an overwatch connoisseur, I can say I understood this joke.
Shadow is actually a great character, he's probably the most complex and interesting in the entire franchise.
The edgelord thing is something he became in the 2010s when most character were simplified to the point of feeling more like a parody of themselves since a lot of people used to criticize the more serious stories they thought didn't fit with a cartoony character (something I completely disagree with)
Thankfully it seems that era is over thanks to Frontiers, which actually handles its characters really well
Entirely agree with this comment, saying that Sonic as a whole should just remain a silly game series with cartoon animals is extremely reductive. The serious and heartfelt stories in this franchise is something that only Sonic could pull off. It’s universe is inherently fun and creative and a joy to watch when done correctly. I really like the slight subversion in the beginning that they didnt had Robotnik straight up succeed in building a portal on the mushroom planet to escape, instead he knew that he doesn't necessarily NEED TO. Cause he was stuck on a planet with no life on it, so sending out the massive signal as he did was enough to get someone go to him to check out what abnormality happened there.
Which is also the case he was shown to have been perfectly prepared for, by setting up traps and overall literally BEHAVING as if he expected others to come to him after he used his invention
I REALLY like that. They could have easily gotten away with him making the portal, but somehow this way it actually feels even MORE impressive to me what Robotnik accomplished on that barren planet. It puts emphasis on how insane it already is that he managed to even SURVIVE. Him "just" getting to send out a massive energy signal through the universe for someone else with better resources to pick up on and go to him follows that same emphasis on SURVIVAL.
Yes, he very likely could have made an actual portal, but not under his horrific circumstances. And i really appreciate that they showed Robotnik's intelligence and humanity enough respect to "just" let him save himself on a "lower" scale by using what little resources he has to get people TO HIM who have more and better resources.
This movie was SO GOOD! It has no right to go this hard and be this awesome! Hell it even took the way overplayed "Stick the non-human character from another world where there aren't even humans on Earth and and add in a bunch of plotline about random humans" plot line and made it work! And yeah, best Knuckles! Making him a total meathead, but also a total fucking badass, Tails was his adorable best, just, everything about this movie was damn near perfect!
It really is funny that there are people that are saying, 'The movies are a better Sonic X than Sonic X was'.
Tis a shame that shadow being an edgelord drowned out the fact that shadow is the most complex character in the verse and the coolest 😭 shadow’s backstory is so damn sad

I hope we wont wait for 3rd movie for too long.... I absolutelly loved this movie more than first actually and cant wait for Shadow. And personally I'd love him to be voiced by Sam Witwer - voice of Darth Maul in Star Wars Clone Wars. His serious voice would fit in soooo much. I even asked him personally about that and he knows Sonics lore and would love to do that.

Jeff Fowler has already used the term 'Sonic Cinematic Universe'. And Paramount is known for continuing their movie series' for as long as possible. So I wouldn't be surprised if the movies kept going after the third one.

In the pre-quill comic, it’s explained that those masked guys captured Knuckles while he was on his quest to find the Master Emerald and he served them as a sort of warrior slave. Robotnik freed him in a way.

I very much want Silver to appear in the mid-credits scene of Sonic 3, this summer I became a true fan of that character, so I'd love to see him on the big screen in a fourth movie if they don't keep it as only a trilogy. Yes, if they take the wrong stuff out of 06's storyline and make Sonic 4 be based on that game, it could be another interesting movie.

Apparently, Sega doesn’t make him relevant again because it seems to me they’ve just completely ignored him for the past few years after forces and I’m glad that most of the fans haven’t forgot about him and are making content about him still but because he’s obviously not gonna be in Prime, it would be very much appreciated as a Silver fan to see him in more Sonic media again! Make him relevant again!

That Giant Robot robotnik built is called the Death Egg Robot. It made its first appearance as the final boss on Sonic 2, 3 as final bosses (in 3 if you collect a 7 chaos emeralds) also in Generation's & Lost World (Lost world's kinda looks similar in design)

I'm not a Sonic fan and I don't know a lot about the lore. But this movie in theater felt so good ! Tails, Knuckles, Chaos Emerald, Super Sonic... Seeing Shadow teased at the end was amazing. We're getting a third movie and this is fantastic. I don't know how much there is lore for but I want to see it !
And now, I'm thinking about the Mario movie working as best as this, even more. I'm so hopeful for the futur !
Shadow is one of the biggest storylines in all of Sonic. They could easily do a two-hour film just on an Adventure 2 adaptation alone. Probably why they're doing the Knuckles spinoff, so they can collect some of the Chaos Emeralds before the events of the movie happen.
If you guys are looking for shows to watch may I suggest RWBY by Rooster Teeth? RWBY (pronounced "Ruby") is an American anime-influenced computer-animated web series created by Monty Oum for Rooster Teeth. It is set in the fictional world of Remnant, where young people train to become warriors (called "Huntsmen" and "Huntresses") to protect their world from monsters called Grimm. The fight choreography is amazing, every weapon is dope, and the soundtracks are absolute bangers thanks to the talented Casey Lee Williams and her amazing father Jeff Williams. In some ways it’s similar to My Hero Academia with the majority of the characters have what we would consider superpowers.

Considering the fact that Jim Carrey retired after Sonic 2, the chances of Eggman dying to Super Sonic are a lot higher, which is DEFINITELY a first in this franchise!
That would be a unique turn to take, and if they did, I would be very curious who would be the villain for the 3rd movie (maybe G.U.N.)
However, Agent Stone -- who was still in the mech when Sonic destroyed it if I'm not mistaken -- survived, as we saw in the end credit scene, so there is actually a chance Eggman did as well.
Personally, I'm happy with either option, as long as the 3rd movie hits the same quality level as the first 2
@blackwhiteartistry733 Given how "Shadow-centric" this next film might be, I happily welcome a darker tone. That includes major character deaths. Also, if they wanted to combine the SA2 & Shadow the Hedgehog stories, they could easily make G.U.N. the antagonists.

It wouldn’t be a first. In the old Archie comics Robotnik was PERMANENTLY killed off. He was replaced by an alternate universe Robotnik as the main villain
@@downd.stairs8313 They said they are NOT going to recast Robotnik though. So if Jim Carrey doesn't return, neither does Robotnik. Mind you, they can still use Gerald Robotnik (and probably are using him if some of the concept art is anything to go by). It just means they won't be using Robotnik/Eggman anymore (unless he comes back at some point).

Good news Carrey is back for the third movie
I saw this on release day. I did NOT expect super sonic at all- the audience was flabbergasted. Then post credits scene I was expecting metal sonic or shadow but my money was on metal, so when shadow was revealed the whole cinema just lost it- myself included. YES go play Frontiers- it’s slightly confusing to start as they’re trying to tie in the old games and create actual Lore and flashbacks but it’s a great story and a fun game!
This made my day! And now, I’m ready for Mario on the 5th!
