Scoliosis won’t stop Frankie’s military career

  • Frankie from Florida, USA had to take a break from the US military when his back gave out during a particularly gruelling drill. Hearing about Scoliosis SOS from a family friend in Greece, Frankie travelled to the UK for a four-week course of treatment. He has gained height, lost weight and his sciatica pain is virtually gone. Describing his treatment experience as ‘amazing’ with a lumbar rotation reduction of 20%, Frankie is going straight back to the enlisting office when he gets back to the USA.

I am 15 with a 50 degree angled spine, I want to join the navy but this terrifies me, it doesn’t cause me any pain though.

These guys are probably really great. I went to see them, I thought a had a pretty serious scoliosis, whilst actually they found out that the scoliosis was mild but that I had this issue with sort of flat back (not enough lordosis). I also had DDD and I had been diagnosed with severe herniated disk L4 L5. They said they could have helped me but basically I should have travelled for 1 hour by train and they said other good physiotherapists in my area could have helped me with that. Very professional.

Why would scoliosis be a problem in the military? I have it 30 degrees and i've been looking into a possible military career

Hi Mary Jane - it depends on a number of factors, but generally speaking, your scoliosis should only be a problem if it has a significant effect on your mobility and/or your overall health. More information here: www.scoliosissos.com/news/post/if-i-have-scoliosis-can-i-join-the-army

I’m trying to join the Air Force but I have scoliosis but I need to take a updated X-ray because the last time I got one was senior year of high school. Hopefully my xrays are good. I really want to join.

I’m 14 I have a 20% thoracic and 14% lumbar curve my dream is to become a fighter pilot but was mortified to find out the truth about how they most likely won’t grant waivers for something as intense as flying I’m praying it will get better but it could also get worse

      Hi Tessa,
It is better to do something than nothing at all. Scoliosis is a progressive condition, especially when you are growing.
We would recommend to book in a consultation, if you are interested please call up on 0204 524 5453 or email enquiries@scoliosissos.com with your details and availability

Ur gonna need a wavier the cutoff is 20 but u could get a wavier up to 30 degrees and the american army accepts the most waviers out of any branch but at 29 degrees its gonna be tough
