Such mechanical knowledge from which so many and myself can learn so much from you dear friend and brother. Thank you for every excellent shop work and presentation you kindly provide to all. !!
Dale, I agree with you on the 2 stroke compression theory in that it is not as big a factor as with 4 strokes. I would add my perception that the smaller the two stroke engine is, the more it benefits from having good compression and a fresh top end. The larger bore 2 strokes benefit from fresh top ends also, but it seems the tight top ends on the small bore bikes are noticeably more apparent. Your bikes are excellent, we really enjoy your videos. We learn valuable content from every one of them. Your shop and tool kit are among the best on the web. I'm about half way through a kawasaki kt 250 restoration and appreciate being able to reference your know how, thanks again for your videos.
Thanks Jeff for all the kind words. I would agree with you on the smaller ones being more directly impacted by compression or lack thereof. The Kt 250....is that the trials version? Not as well versed on the Kawasaki's. I like the 70's trials bikes, would like to have a RL 250 Suzuki.
Hey Dale, the MX is looking fantastic, I think the green tank will really set it off. That was a poor little worn out engine on the Enduro 175. Those weren't ring gaps, in London they are called parking spaces. I'm looking forward to seeing you put it right. Best wishes, Dean.
I have people that have me doubting the green for the mx. I may be red, we will see. Yes, parking spots for sure, not sure I have ever seen any so worn out. Thanks Dean
Well done, Dale!! Wondering what the ignition issue will turn out to be. CDI boxes are getting harder to find. Oh, yeah...the compression question sure sounds familiar! ;) Looking forward to the comparison after re-build.
Wow! Just tested my 1975 dt 250. It has 90 compression. I might have the same problems. Mine starts good, just doesn't have a lot of power. I'll have to take it to someone who knows more than me. Great video. Seems eerily similar. 🤔
OH NO!! The way cool AT1 MX needs to be RED; not green!! That is a pretty green, but this one has to be RED!! Anxious to see/hear resolution of the running issue on this one. I hope we get to see a test ride video of this one before winter. Really love your channel. Great work and Good luck!
On two stroke compression; I've found that anything under 100 psi and power is way down. Anything under around 70, and starting gets difficult. On any two stroke of mine or one's I'm repairing, under 125 gets torn down pronto for a rebuild. That 175 almost bored ITSELF 1st over! And the ring gaps--> WOW! No air filter?
You have me thinking, I really like the Yamaha candy green. I do have some brilliant red left over from my 72 CT-2 and 71 AT-1 builds. I know that should be the correct color. But I sure like the green, did I mention that. For riding before winter, not going to happen, snowing to beat the band as I write this.
@@retromechanicalengineer heck, im 80 years old i go to bed with the chickens, but wake up at 3am most of the time. still cant get in sync with the master Mr Dale.

Nice looking bike! Your camera work to show the detail of the steps is good and appreciated.
Thanks Chris, this one is finally going to get paint this summer. Think a lot of paint will be flying this summer, catching up on all the projects.
Great job brother. Thanks for sharing. Love to see these old bikes come back to life. Waiting on the next video. Have a great evening Dale.
Thanks buddy, I appreciate you being here.

Thanks Jim, yes hoping this used one will work, yep let's see what happens to compression. thanks buddy

Hope its ok, really dont know what compression should be. My feeling is 100 to 140.
Got to watch the rest tomorrow. It’s almost 10 here. Got to be up at 5.
understand
great job dale wow those ring gaps woz like walking down isles in costco lol
You got it buddy; don't think I have ever seen any so bad.

Hi Eileen, I think your probably on to something there, no doubt this engine has been eating dirt for a while.

I'm going to look at a 1969 AT-1 today. Say's it "runs but won't go into gear, and is missing the seat. No title. $850. Is that too much?
@@MrVonfelde I would pay that. Sounds like a good project
like that nut driver with the ratchet attachment.
Its a Proto 4769, I see them on ebay

Ah Frank, I can't be expected to stay up until 2am anymore. I'm not as young as I once was...
