- Today I'm taking another look at the Russian MVD IRP MRE... the official chow of the paramilitary and police forces of the Russian MVD. A necessary ration considering Russia's extreme amounts of remote territories. If you're on patrol in Siberia, you can't exactly pull over at the closest Dunkin' for a coffee and a donut. I'll be unboxing this MRE, reviewing the ration components, and taste testing this military / police food, that is also sometimes used in the Russian Armed Forces.
The MVD or Interior Ministry has a big job in Russia, it's a bit like combining the US Dept. of Homeland Security, FBI, ICE and State Police forces all into one big agency. These "cops" do it all, from regular traffic patrols to occupation forces in conflict zones (think Ukraine).

That heavy dose of sugar in the tea sounds like a great pick-me-up! I once read that mountain rescuers would make 'smokechaser tea' by adding enough sugar to hot tea make it syrupy as an energy boost for people with hypothermia.

Such rations are usually issued in cases of emergency, enhanced duty, and so on, when the employee literally does not show up at home. Previously, in the 1990s and 2000s, employees were given army-style rations or just a selection of canned goods, such as condensed milk and stewed meat.

I used to if possible trade my French “MREs” for Yanky stuff all the time. Taste is subjective to weight. Do a 72 hour patrol and tell me what you want to carry. And MRE hot bag heats way faster and is lighter than thos bloody fuel tabs. I have eaten Eastern European rats. A Rat pack boogie is just as good if you know what that is@@id_Usher
