  • Welcome to the "Back 9" at MRE Scout WHQ, where I'm taking a taste adventure straight out of the Baltics. Join me on a culinary journey as I dive into the Lithuanian MRE - the Ration of the "Eastern Most Western Nation". I'll be doing a classic MRE Review outside by the fire. This military ration is similar to a US Meal, Ready to Eat, but with some nuance and flavor straight out of eastern Europe. This ration review will bring us some surprises and delightful tastes of the Baltic.

Cooking with aluminum on an open fire will leave black smut on your cook ware. While in the boy scouts we learned that taking a plastic medicine bottle of liquid dish soap and spreading a small amount on the bottom of the cooking pan, you will be able to clean off the black smut when washed. It really is a time saver when you clean up the cook ware. Great videos and thanks.

Geographically we are the center of European continent. Politically we are Northern European country. Which also includes these other countries: Estonia.
    Latvia.
    Denmark.
    Finland.
    Iceland.
    Norway.
    Sweden.

Well done! I was expecting the stew to scorch, sitting on the fire like that, but you timed it nicely--obviously not your first camping trip!
    Happy New Year!

Hey. Degtukai - means matches in Lithuanian, not brand name. And Lithuania wasn't part of Poland, it was a Polish- Lithuanian commonwealth. So it was joint country.

Corrections: 7:32 USSR together with Germany split Europe in half by forming military alliance, they didn't expect Germany to attack them(So no reason for buffer zone), didn't put much effort to defend USSR-Germany border as they were in alliance, when Germany invaded they were caught off guard. 8:30 Lithuanians were mobilized in to Wehrmacht, not SS. Nazi Germany didn't trust Lithuanians in what they considered prestigious units - SS, because they thought Lithuania would betray them "To nationalistic". On top of that Lithuanian government under Nazi control did everything they can to boycott mobilization and especially founding Lithuanian SS brigades. Making Lithuania one of 3 countries that didn't have their people serving in SS, other 2 are Poland and Greece. While even non occupied countries had SS units/brigades.

Great little video. You will find that you can always boost up the flavour of your main course and increase your gravy by boiling a small amount of water in your mess tin and adding a stock/bullion cube (Knorr chicken is my preference) this will also prevent scorching of your mess tin if you have a delay in adding your food to the mess tin. Keep up the good work. Happy Trails !

Lithuania was never part of Poland, it was a union. Lithuania also used to be one of the biggest countries in europe figthing off biggest armies at the time. Its not like the countries history consists of constant occupation.
