Golfer since 1972 and I’ve always been a “feel” putter. My new DF3 has definitely forced me to be a bit more mechanical. If you focus on pace and alignment and let the putter do it’s magic it’s a game changer from 20 feet in. It takes some getting used to on long putts and shots from the fringe.
That Green you have on your DF3 has convinced me that I "will" be going with the green color. Now I just need to try the DF3 vs OZ. I'm 2hrs away from LAB HQ so might take a trip down.
I've got a MezzMax and a green df3. I'm spending winter in Las Vegas and plan to play them for the winter. They both were custom fit. The df3 is a little heavier and a bit more stable but they're both great putters. I find the df3 is great for lag putting and both are great on 5ft and shorter putts. Go Augusta green!!!
Excellent run down. This past summer i was remotely custom fit with LAB for my DF3. Based on my video they recommended 72 deg lie angle. I custom ordered mine at 36 inches, counterbalanced & heavier head options. Also got the 17 inch LAB SuperStroke grip and NN head marking. Love the customization options. My previous gamer was a 36 inch limited edition Jailbird 380, so the transition was easy. At 5'6" i play the putter by choking down about 2 inches. Like you said you cant get all that customization with Odyssey and this Square to square is really is for someone who either doesn't want to spend extra $ and/or doesn't play a lot. This year i played about 36 rounds, the most ive played in 1 season. The key to this is the Lie Angle balancing, it is a remarkable concept that really eliminates any twisting/manipulation needed to get the face square to the target line. Been golfing just over 30 years and my DF3 is by far the best putter I've ever used and I've had about 12 or so over the past 30 + years.
Love to hear feedback for the LAB. I’m looking to getting a slightly longer putter with the longer grip for LAB’s next invention too, with the heavier head. Feels SO stable. What you said is bang on
When get into the customization of the DF3 the price goes up even more. I got the square 2 square today and paid $300. The customized DF3 I was looking at would have come to almost $700 USD. First round tomorrow morning with the Odyssey. Fingers crossed!
I've probably spent 5K on putters over the years. I've owned virtually every top brand and type, and I can honestly say the DF3 is the only putter that literally made me far better without doing anything different. The key is to set up with the shaft and not the head, let the club do the work.
Defo going to buy a df3 just waiting on my online fitting results from lab. Thinking of going heavier head as my main issue is leaving putts shorr. Great video thanks
@@craigtalbot9316 yea I’m stuck too between black or blue but I think I am gonna go blue with black shaft and black grip. Only a few more days to figure it out till Black Friday. Also the white handle looks really good just worried about if it gets dirty easy
Good video. I’m interested in testing both but you’ve answered one of my questions which is about the coloured LAB putters. I wondered if the colour would chip off and it appears yes it does as per the close up shot in your video 👍🏻
I’ve got a CB DF3, the tech is definitely there, although i seem to have a hard time lag putting with it. Recently put my 11.5 back in and had the best putting round of the year, I think i must just prefer the firmer feel. Looking forward to trying the OZ.1i hopefully the insert can give me the feel i’m after with the L.A.B tech.
Very tempted by a LAB putter but I won’t fork out that amount without trying one first and that is very difficult in the UK. I’ll give the Jailbird and the #7 S2S versions a try after the 29th but my impression is that they are extremely popular, excellent putters tweaked for the mass market.
This is the answer I got from lab on their Facebook when asking what’s the difference between the two, I just ordered a link1 today Sebastian not perfectly balanced, limited in custom offerings, and a rushed product made only in the name of trying to compete rather than trying to innovate!
Unlike LAB, you should be able to try out Square 2 Square putters in a lot of different golf shops. You can also specify lie angles up from 2 degrees up to 2 degrees flat if you order online. Given that they are offering more popular head designs, I am guessing at the price Odyssey is charging, quite a few golfers will be fine with those options.
It will be interesting to see how the low torque putters are compared in the future video. Each brand should be identified with their customization limits on lie angle and length. Total putter weight and swing weight should be measured. Face materials and feel are obvious topics. Grip options and whether they offer just a standard, or also offer a counter balance, arm-lock, broomstick versions. The Odyssey counter balance jailbird took over golf for a short time, wonder if they produce a square to square counter balance.
great review alex. ive seen nothing but good reviews of the odyssey, so the $300 price tag is the determining factor for me. cheers from the texas hill country..

@GolfmagicPlus I'm currently gaming a "standard" type 7 versa with the jailbird color scheme, and it's by far the easiest putter to line up that I've ever used. I like the feel off the face on the 7 better than when I've tried a LAB mezz. Really want to check out the new S2S model in a week or so.
Great video. The fact that the Odyssey is soft off the face while the DF3 is hard be one of the main reasons in making your choice? Or can you easily get use to either option?
You can easily get used to either. Neither is so much on their side of the spectrum it’s offensive, if you get what I mean. I actually prefer a softer face overall, but weighing everything up I chose the LAB
Sorry to bother you, but I’m curious-at 7:08 in the video, when I look at the putter head, it seems like there are quite a few marks on it. Is that because of the material being soft, or has it been dropped a few times?
Odyssey wont force public to only allow custom fitting because people would not buy more putters if they "dont work" for them. if you're educated you will get it fitted. But as a company it doesn't make sense to restrict products given the price.

Funny how pxg done the same in their own “revealer” too and it didn’t twist but as soon as you put it in the lab revealer it’s all over the place. It’s low torque, not zero. You do realise that as soon as you put a shaft straight in the middle of a mass it will give you a almost zero torque putter with a few weight tweet right? The low torque isn’t the difficult part.
This is not true! The authorities reached out and noted that because the shaft and grip come from overseas that we are not allowed to put made in the USA on it. All of our heads are currently machined right here in Oregon and assembled here in Creswell.

To be fair the jailbird isn’t face balanced, they have just put a shaft with lean central and told you it’s something special. It’s really not
Odyssey have some of, if not the best engineers in the world for stuff like this. One thing I can assure you, is that this is not just a center shafted putter with forward press.
It's been put in the device that measures torque - when it's in the device and is swung the putter doesn't turn at all. It's zero torque.
That good that they are almost 5 years behind the curve and still releasing something that has been done many many before.

Using a LAB is like riding a scooter, it’s cool until someone catches you using it.
Just FYI the LAB putter heads are no longer made in USA hence why if you look at the newer heads you won't see the Made In USA stamp on it anymore
This is not true! The authorities reached out and noted that because the shaft and grip come from overseas that we are not allowed to put made in the USA on it. All of our heads are currently machined right here in Oregon and assembled here in Creswell.
