  • This weird clicking noise comes from the drivers side when applying on the brakes. Does not happen when turning. Does anyone have an idea what it could be? I have resurfaced the rotor and replaced the brake pads and the sound persists. HELP!!!!

    I know this is old but this answer is for anyone in the future.. usually a hard ticking noise like this one is because the brake hardware like the clips for example were installed wrong or they may be faulty. Double check the brake hardware!! Especially if you just got your brakes done and this started!!

    I had the same exact issue with my 2006 acura RL. reading this post, I changed the hub assembly, sway bar and link, brake pads, yet the problem still exist. so I decided with my buddy to isolate the problem at its source by removing parts one at a time till I was sure where the clicking came from. It turned out to be one of the caliper piston. On my vehicle, each caliper have four piston. Two on each side of the brake pads. I found that only three piston was functioning. The other one was stuck and did not come out to apply even pressure to that one side of the brake pads, which causes the pads to wiggle, which caused the clicking sound when the brake is applied to that wheel. In my case, it was the driver front wheel. I was able to break the stuck piston free and ensure that it moved freely and never get stuck again. After that, I decided to bleed the brakes as well to make sure no air in the system so that more pressure can be added to the piston. That completely fixed the problem. I hope this help.

    Check the shims on the brake pads. Sometimes aftermarket pads don't come with the required shims. Subaru's especially. Also, if your rotors were machined on a lathe, the way it cuts the rotor it makes a pattern similar to screw threads causing the brake pads to ride up or down and make clicks when it hits the caliper.

      @Shho13 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It also may be bushings on your suspension. I hear a noise over slight bumps... Check for cracked bushings. Use a pry bar and pry around and check for excessive play.

    My brakes are making a popping sound, but only once each time I brake and it seems a little louder than the 'clicking' in the video. My brake pad clips were very worn down and one was broken, but they stayed in place when I inserted the pads. I think the pads might be loose due to the worn-out brake pad clips and that's what's causing the sound. I'm picking up new clips this evening and will have them on tonight. Hopefully it works. If not, I'm going to investigate a checklist of possibilities until I run out of things to check

    I had the same problem, I chamfer the router, change brakes, changed caliper, change bearing with no result. The problem was the hub, yes the hub itself that the bearing sits in. The mechanic took the hub to the machine shop and he noticed it wasn't spinning straight. You can buy a new hub or used hub or get it chamfered depending on how badly its bent.

    Had this probleme on a 2015 santa fe xl ,
    The brake pad bracket started to rub on the rust from the rotor !!! Had it services by a friendly shop for 25$. Just needed to be resurfaced and probleme gone!!!!
    If you hear this sound for the same issue, it’s easy to diagnose if when you backing up it makes the same noise but much louder!!! As parts rubs more in the other direction!!!
    Jack your car up and put it in neutral ( use block so your car dont run away from you), remove the wheel and turn your disk you will hear the clicking sound, now turn backward and it should make the same noise but louder!!! If you dont know how to take your brack apart get it done by someone who knows and get the right bracket also!!!
    Good luck all!!

    @vampcaff 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is it a civic? If so it's a "design feature" the rear pads are called flowting pads and have a tolerence built in that will be taken uo by rust and corrosion over time. Apparently there's nothing you can do other grease the are. The pads moves forward when breaking from the force and slaps against the caliper bracket when it settles back in place. It's a stupid design but this is the statement directly from a couple honda dealers i asked.

  • @gioviat
    @gioviat  12 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Well in my case it was the Spindle. It was not spinning straight causing my brake caliper to wobble.I wouldn't procrastinate and get that looked at because you never can be too sure if its a safety issue til you pin point the problem. Tell the mechanic to jack up the front of the car, remove the 2 front tires and put the car in gear. Once the spindles start spinning observe if they're wobbly. if so replace them because that can be whats causing the clicking sound.

    The clicking sound you hear might be a worn suspension component and not related to the brakes. Sway bar links for example can make clicking sounds when the bushings are worn. If ball joints are worn, the shifting of the spindle can cause a clicking type sound also. A loose strut can also make a similar sound

    *Had a quick question.... Did this clicking sound start intermittently, and gradually become more common? I hear an intermittent click while driving at slow speeds.... It sounds almost exactly like a compressor turning on, very similar to what I hear in this video, but it's just a single click here and there. It seems to happen more often now. I have a feeling it's the brakes because I am now hearing light, intermittent squeaking while driving, stronger when turning to the right. All of the sounds mentioned can only be heard with the windows open. Thanks.*

I took the new rotor off i got from autozone (duralast gold) and put the factory rotor back on and the noise is gone. I had a very similar sound after i resurfaced my rotors and changed the brake pads. And the sound only happened when I braked and it was only on the driver side,. I never heard this type of noise before. I finally took off the resurfaced rotor and put the old one back on as it was still good and the surface was not touched. This resolved the problem and the noise. I am thinking that the rotor i was using is warped and might have to get it resurfaced again or just buy a new one. Good luck.

    Ok i am hearing such sound in my toyota prius 2007.... and i only hear it when i apply brakes to slow down the car.... i thought it would be something related to either shock absorbers or brake pads, as my shocks were to be replaced.... so after doing everything and all.... whereever i take my car everyone says everything is fine, there is no problem in it.... but i still hear such knocking sound when i apply brakes :/

    I have the same noise on my up lander when apply brake. Today took to the mechanic. After thorough check, he said rotter and pads Ok. Went to other mechanic.First he said the same thing Rotter and pads Ok. then he said may be due to heat, rotters are bent and caliper needs to be replaced. charged me $$400+. On the way home I hear the same noise again. Going back to same shop again tomorrow.

    I would install new parts and put more maintance on my car if parts weren't so expensive.
    I'm a delivery driver I wish my job help pay for the maintance for my suspension. I have some suspension issues. Some I can fix at home but than I gotta do an alignment after. I just installed 2 rotors and brake pads for front wheels $210. Rear shock mount $25 and now I have a clicking sound after braking and the front struts sound like shit I might install new struts those are a fun to buy... MacPherson struts are like what $80 a piece.... And than I can get a alignment for $50 but I got gas, food, and my own other misc I wanna use money for. Welcome to adulthood.
