Makes me proud to be a kiwi seeing guys like you haha. I'd be the third one to enquire about the obd1 to obd2 adapter then using the bluetooth dongle. I understand some obd 1 dont have 12v output so may need a wire added. Pages and pages on forums ive looked at but can't seem to find any answer's. Maybe a trial and era for someone with your knowledge. Keep it up mate
hey mate, I need a little help, i having trouble with my SRS as the light is up on the dash, so i connect my Launch X431 V5 to the 17pin port half round under the dash on the right hand side as mine is a imported soarer 1992 1uzfe and it says it cant connect to the SRS ECM and shows no fault code when scanning. Is there something i am doing wrong with the scanning as i select Japan and soarer but shows no issues and i have replaced the ECM with matching numbers still no change.
Good morning. Im having troubles finding the adapter for my 1995 Toyota Celsior. Im chasing a check engine light. Suspecting its my upstream 02 sensor.
Update: found the right part, but the obd1 port isn't working. Is there a fuse I'm missing? I found the 2nd fuse box under the steering wheel, but cannot seem to find which fuse it is since it's in Japanese. Ucf21 celsior. Thanks
Bro i got a soarer has no power in driver door,,checked every thing fuses relay all ok ,,power windows motor works too...but no current goes in the door at all,,,what part could be Broken?or diagnostic obd1 can tell what it is?much appreciated bro
Correct, the noise on key off is the IAC doing its reset process. If it doesn't do this then there is an issue, The later IAC are a bit quieter than the early ones. Cheers
Thats OBD1 adaptor is part of my professional scantool. It was many thousands when I purchase it years ago. I have some options coming soon once I get the time to test them. Cheers Kelvin
I have just got my obd 1 to obd2 converter but not getting no power to the obd2 dongle can you help ?? I have codes flashing on an off and now the engine light always remains on
Can you run an OBD1 to OBD2 cable adapter and then put a Bluetooth OBD2 adapter on that in the engine bay for codes? and for data logging can you run a 17pin to RS232 cable (with 3.3nF cap.) to USB to pull data for logging for the 2nd DLC port? kinda cool how there is two DLC ports.
There are OBD1 to OBD2 converters however I have an OBD1 scantool so have never has to bother. Most of the engine ports require wiring changes to work with a communication device. Cheers Kelvin.
@@CartuneNZ Thank you for the reply Kelvin, your TH-cam channel is full of vital information and I look forward to learning more, with the route I'm going I should be looking at standalone ECU's for what I have planned, no point messing with oem wiring and make shift car computers when the end result is still a factory ECU lol.
Ive never had the need to sorry as I've got the hanatech. The bluetooth dongles can be a bit hit and miss. I had some really good ones for vvti 1uz then brought the same unit and they dont work. Different batch.
Great video. Is there any information that I can get from the engine plug that I cant get from the dash plug in the case where I’m using a manual gearbox?
The underdash plug has much better data than the engine connector. There is however a series of manual test modes which can be set via the engine connector which not many people know about. I might do a video on that one day. So scan tool connection is preferred to the underdash connector. Manual test on engine connector.
Hey i recently had the TRAC light come on once im driving for about 10 minutes then resets everytime i turn the car off. How would i go about diagnosing the TRAC light?
Awesome video mate basically answered all my questions regarding OBD1 and the cloud of mystery everyone says surrounds it.
Cool. Glad to help. Cheers Kelvin

I happen to have some obd1 to obd2 adaptors on their way to see if they are any good. There will be a video I'm sure. Go kiwis. Cheers Kelvin

Does this apply to pre 1992 uzz31? Currently having trouble getting communication through connector under the dash.
Yes, the underdash connector should work fine.
What is that "rod knocking" sound at engine OFF? Is that what a properly working IACV sounds like (resetting)?
Correct, the noise on key off is the IAC doing its reset process. If it doesn't do this then there is an issue, The later IAC are a bit quieter than the early ones. Cheers
How can I get the fuel pump signal if it's not there in that port?
Id check at the fuel tank connector in the trunk
Hi Kelvin, any updates for scan tool options for the DIYer ? Rather than forking out thousands for an OBD1 scanner ?
Man thank you so much!
Where can I find that OBD1 adapter? Amazon doesn’t have it

You will need to do some testing. Cheers Kelvin
Hey there, where can i get the semi plug adapter?
Mine was provided with my scan tool when I purchased it. Cheers Kelvin

Can you use a toyota OBD to OBD 2 adapter and one of those eBay bluetooth dongles?
Ive never had the need to sorry as I've got the hanatech. The bluetooth dongles can be a bit hit and miss. I had some really good ones for vvti 1uz then brought the same unit and they dont work. Different batch.
No worries, thank you for the quick reply!

Does this apply to the sc400 in america?
Yes it does, except the steering wheel is on the other side. Cheers Kelvin
@@CartuneNZ awesome!!!! Thanks for the info. Love the videos!!!! Great info!!!
Wow thanks! The exact info I need to wire in the correct check connector to pull live data from my 1uz swapped hilux.
Cool as. Glad I could help
awesome info
Thanks Michael. Its a topic that annoys me a bit. Sometimes I forget this stuff is basic to me. Cheers
Thanks for the knowledge :)
Similar thing with some older bmws
Its so much easier when you can access good info from the ecu. Doing one today, a bmw with 1uz and its a pain not having data. Cheers
Thanks mate
No worries
dang, I'm not buying anything from you since you slam everything around 😂😂😂
Hey i recently had the TRAC light come on once im driving for about 10 minutes then resets everytime i turn the car off. How would i go about diagnosing the TRAC light?
I would use the Toyota process of checking for codes and following the diagnoses proceedure as recommended by Toyota. Cheers
