As soon as I got mine , took the spool bearing out flushed them with acetone over night to get the grease out and put one drop of oil on each bearing , now i can see what this reel can really do. Daiwa puts to much grease on the bearing i believe that affects casting alot.

I'm interested to see this reel up against the curado k because I've had my 100 for a about a month and it casts easily as well as the curado. The K feels more smooth but the tatula is more comfortable.

I'm convinced your casting style has a huge effect on your results. Your casting style is quite snatchy, which seems to work well with centrifugal reels. I've always found Daiwas work best with a smoother cast with less attempt to power the cast. Try a longer drop from the tip to the lure when you cast, it will help smooth out your casting stroke.

Tim Kelly yeah his casts are relatively like quick, he doesn’t bring the rod back all the way. It’s like if your a pitcher in baseball. If you don’t bring your arm back all the way your not going to get the most velocity.

I agree. I cast my daiwa's with a break setting of 6 or 7 with a very low effort swing and still get amazing distance. I think most reels today at each price point cast pretty much the same distance give or take a few feet, but those few feet are almost irrelevant. Just find something that looks nice and is comfortable with the way you hold your rod.

It's hard to tell from the video with the angle ect. But by the looks.of.it if I were casting my Laguna or my T3 there I would have to be very careful not to get the lure hung up in the trees on the other side . They both easily cast all the way across the river I always fish at. Interesting video.

  • @shred5

One thing that I should note is that on the box of the Tatula 100 they consider 12lb line to be .285mm, .14lb line to be .310mm and 16lb line to be .330mm where on the CT Type-R box, they consider 12lb line to be .32mm, 14lb to be .35mm and 16lb to be .37mm. They both hold the same amount of 12lb line, but there's a bit of difference in those diameters so you can assume the CT Type-R will hold a little bit more line so if you're using some 65+lb braid or some thicker 17lb+ fluorocarbon or mono line, the Type-R is a better suited reel (which is where Tatula 150 comes in).

I wonder how it would compare to the tatula ct? I put the stock spool back in my tatula ct,and put it on an old berkley lightning rod. That rod feels kind of bulky, and more heavy than it needs to be. I have a small amount of braid on the spool, and I need to get some more line. Hopefully this setup will cast heavier lures like 5/8 oz spinner baits a good distance, but I'd like to get a different rod sometime. This weekend I caught my first bass on a big spinner bait. It's a good idea to have a normal bass fishing setup for throwing bigger stuff like that,as that spinner bait felt a bit heavy for my bait finesse gear.

I swear you'd get backlashes out faster if you used the thumb on the spool with medium-tight to tight drag on. I mentioned this once before and everyone disregarded it, but I swear it has saved me countless hours and prevented me from digging them in worse pulling on line. Try it a few times and I'd bet you'll never risk pulling line again.
Also, maybe try the Type R CT spool in the new Tatula 100??? Guys that buy the cheap Aliexpress DIY spools say that the CT spool fits in the new 100...

Have you experimented casting with the face of the reel being parallel to the water when you cast (your handle would be facing up). This is a technique I try to use when distance casting. It is what a lot of saltwater surf casters use to reduce the friction of the line and I have found it makes it more difficult to backlash

Still hasn't changed my mind on the 100. In terms of the difference in cranking power, I think that might be sorted out by picking a lower gear ratio on the CT Type-R, namely the 6.3:1. Like you, I also bought the 7.3, that was a mistake for me, I went for the red colour dial, otherwise I pretty much always buy the lowest gear ratio possible for my style of fishing. Smoothness wise, that's something else, without actually trying the reel, I don't know how much smoother is the 100. May be you can try to quantify it? A little bit smoother, noticeably smoother or a heck of a lot smoother. Overall, if your conclusion is the 100 is better for lighter lures while the CT Type-R is better for heavier lures, then seriously there isn't much reason for me to get the 100. I don't really use anything lighter than 3/4oz.
