I love your channel because you always recommend books I haven't heard of elsewhere. Can't wait to give some of these a read! Also very grateful because I bought a copy of Mrs. Dalloway ages ago and then completely forgot about it LOL I'm not sure if you've read it, but I'm reading She Who Became The Sun right now and I think you might like it. It's definitely more suited to a history-nerd-type because the plot is driven by politics, war, and the character's desire for power... but it's an incredibly poignant exploration of gender, and it's told in such a vivid and compelling way.
This is so sweet!! Thanks love. I’ve been hearing such good things about that book for a long time now! It’s kind of hard for me to get myself motivated to read books that long unfortunately :/ but hopefully I will be able to at some point in the future!
Hey, I love your videos and it's just a suggestion, like can you put a picture of the books on the screen when you talk about them, that would be really helpful.
More suggestions: I Love the Campus Queen by Marie Young: Set in the late 1950s, a college sophomore falls for her best friend’s older sister The Senator’s Wife by Jen Lyon: A women’s soccer star falls for the wife of a Republican Senator Ice Massacre by Tiana Werner: Girl falls for a mermaid
I really enjoyed Everybody in this Room Will Someday be Dead. I'm a former Catholic and I thought it was hilarious how she was trying to fake being Catholic. I have anxiety because I have a rare heart condition. I relate to living with anxiety and having related mental health issues because of my diagnosis. The humor can be dark at times, but that's my style. I listened to the audiobook which was good.
I read passing once for myself and again for an university essay on passing. Until now I (a lesbian) have never thought about the sapphic elements of the novel. This is very interesting
Yay! So good to hear. Yes I most frequently do include a list in the description, but for this video I pinned a comment that someone so kindly made that has all the titles and timestamps :)
Me when I want to read all of them but I remember I live in Poland and that most of them aren't translated, cost three times more than non-foreign books and can't be find in our libraries: 🥲
thank you for this video! i actually recognized a good amount of the books here from you mentioning them before but appreciate the well worded summaries! i’m actually in the middle of Gods of Want and completely agree with you, gorgeous writing! will def check for a lot of these books at my library ☺️
I haven't seen this video yet so I do not know if this story comes in it, but I recommend Mountain ways by Ursula K le Guin. Iconic sci fi author, interesting saphic story, and craziest of all, written in 1996! Definitely ahead of its time.
I would really recommend Sunburn by Chloe Michelle Howarth!!! It's a beautiful lesbian romance set in 90's rural Ireland and is pretty recent and has beautiful prose.
I love your lesbian book recs because it is RARE that 1) I find someone who focuses on literary fiction with nuance or an actual compelling plot 2) haven’t read or heard of it already and most importantly 3) actually has black writers recommended. Writers of colour in general. You don’t understand how much of a hidden gem you are 😭 I’m tired of these people telling me to read Sarah Waters it’s so stale
Also it would be very helpful to add the titles either in the video or in your description! I was v grateful that someone added the list in the comments! X
I loved Everyone in This Room Will Someday Be Dead. My therapist did not love me reading it. It hit a little to close to home in the anxiety department for me.
Sounds like a bad move then. Mental health over books. Until you’re more in a stable place and yes I know it can be chronic but there’s progress with that too. It can always wait until better times
So hard for me not to make a lesbian joke about that missing fingernail - insert iPhone sticker of my me & my girlfriend laughing here . 4 months tardy, but appreciate the video as ever 📖🪱💚
Please remember to buy the books, request at a library, and demand more from publishers if you don’t find good options where you live. But don’t steal from lesbian authors guys. Already paid less and published less so they need the sales to get offers and not be in debt if books don’t sell(they owe traditional publishers whatever gets sent back), and to not be at a loss if they’re indie. Classics matter too even if the author isn’t here because buying means it needs to be in print from publisher’s perspective. Lots of lost lesbian fiction and buying directly or via library prevents that.
I love these recs and I *love* Emily Austin, I can't wait for her next book to be out! But I had never heard of This very nice box and I totally want to check it out now. Besides, I saw it's narrated by Rebecca Lowman, YES PLEASE!
hi i really wanted to ask !!! apologies if this has been asked before... have you read the locked tomb series ? if so, what do you think of it? love your videos
You're awesome - it's hard to find a queer/lesbian book I don't already know about, but you showed me several here. Thanks! BTW - if you like Shmutz (great book!) you may enjoy Milkfed by Melissa Broder :)
Please look at “Beyond Any Experience” by Anne Terpstra! The main character is a middle-aged parent (gasp!) and it’s so sex positive. Writing is amazing: a very realistic portrayal of trauma, grief, and the wisdom of the multigenerational feminine.
I feel I see that age range and older, and single parents representation a lot these days. But I use social media to find books and my bookstore is pretty expansive in romance

Ah! Perfect timing! I've been wanting to pick up more lesbian fiction as my queer lit shelf needs more sapphics!
Thanks for watching ❤❤

Just added a bunch of these to my TBR! I was wondering if in the future you could put a list of the books and their authors in the description? 😁
