Ah, I just noticed, Kinu is wearing the peach hairpin that Hakuda had given her through the crack of the door after she gave him the white kimono. And the reason he needed the kimono was so that he could wear it when he turned into his human form.
In Asia culture, the hairpin also represent love and a proposal. When a marriage proposal was given, the man will give the hairpin to the woman and if she agree, she shall accept the hairpin or let the man put it on her. And then the brooch will be put back on the bride's hair In short, the hairpin is somewhat similar to the wedding ring.
Thing is, one becomes snake food if they don't find & follow the manual correctly. Not complaining, fair enough actually, but I'd _definitely_ be dead.
The final ending was unexpectedly cute. :D Tbh I don't mind being married to a giant snake man, he seems nice as long as you follow the rituals correctly.
There are implications becoming the wife of a giant snake are just as bad as being eaten by one. Haven’t you played Raidou Kuzunoha vs The Abaddon Army?
@@Minohorse I didn't mix it thats the result google gave me. I remembered the situation but I couldn't remember the full name.I just replied without double checking it. XD
A story I've heard before as most likely have, though Manly is certainly right about there being countless versions. I'm glad there's a good ending here, I'd be a little upset if her village had just doomed her to be snake food. The good ending at least has her finding peace and presumably happiness in her marriage.
For some reason the whole *lone girl* and *white snake* reminded me of *Kamisama Kiss* and how *Nanami* who is a *Land God* meets *Mizuki* a *Familiar* who can take the form of a *white snake* lol
In my opinion, this game is not only Thai themed but Japanese+Thai themed. Since the girl is wearing a kimono, stuck in the house that is Japanese themed and uses sake as part of the game (sake is a Japanese wine). I think the main storyline is Thai related, and the graphics and additions are Japanese themed.
If I had to choose between being killed or married off, at least in this specific scenario, I think I'd rather be killed. Hakuba seems incredibly petty, & spending potentially forever married to someone like that is terrible on your well being.
Considering he's a god, of the Asian kind, his personality is pretty much expected. Though it's a common troupe for the deity to soften up after spending time with their human spouse, so the marriage wouldn't be all that terrible.
That's what makes it hard for me to see the ending as 'cute'. Hakuda potentially kills you for just doing the 'ritual' wrong--what else would he do if he was actually upset? I wouldn't want to be forced into marriage with some stranger, god or not (especially if they're petty). On the god side, sounds like one awful eternity to be with him and having to watch over the village that tried to sacrifice you. I'd be tempted to smite the village after that! lol
If the situation is to be analyzed with any shred of logic, then I totally agree... But fairytales are usually not to be viewed that way, say... Cinderella. By _any_ standard this "love story" is a fucked-up mess that's doomed to fall apart, but in a little dream bubble devoid of logic, it's a cute story with a happy ever after. btw, interestingly enough, I don't judge Hakuda too much for being like that, even with logic applied. In Asian folklores this type of deities are _not_ human - they're closer to spirits, or sentient spiritual animals, who offers protection to a region/family/person that worships them, or more specifically... to those who provide offering and perform certain rituals to appease them. Again, by any resemblance of logic, this is as unfair as power dynamics go. On the other hand... hey they're quite nice to their pets.
@@pallas9113 Just you saying 'they're quite nice to their pets' already makes it devoid of a 'cute love story' because one would see the other as a pet, not an equal partner. That's gross. Stories of women being forced into marriage or marrying one they just met were commonplace once in many cultures and products of their time, but looking at it only from that dreamlike bubble is ignoring what harmful things that come with lots of those stories (many of which have been/are aimed at young girls). Saying a fairytale 'isn't supposed to be viewed that way'? Why do you think people want the modern retelling of these stories to have better messages (or don't look back fondly on Cinderella)? It's not one-sided. Also, there are old stories that DO have more depth or that aren't the fairytale 'norm'. Like that of Tokoyo, an old Japanese tale about the Oki Islands of a woman who killed a water dragon-like beast (Yofune-nushi) to save her father (who was wrongfully exiled) AND the girl that was about to be sacrificed to it. Characters having depth, chemistry and getting to know each other makes both them and the story have more meaning. Knowing a lot about different types of folklore helps you understand the viewpoint of the culture, gods, spirits, era, etc. better, but it doesn't mean to just ignore certain things or give it a pass because 'that's the way it is' or not see the potential for a better story. Idk man, I can see what you're getting at but I can't just see past what's there.
_Thanks, village_ Idk what benefit there is to being married to a snake god, but she sure had to jump thru hoops to achieve that 'honor'. At least her village will be fed with that harvest. I wonder which unlucky girl with no family will be next. I enjoyed the little story & liked the art very much.
Fun fact: if you know Japanese, the name "Hakuda" foreshadows the true form of the mountain spirit, since the kanji compound 白蛇 ("hakuda") means "white snake/serpent".
I wonder why the name makes a big difference to the ending, if it had been anything else I would assume it was he can't appear to you as a human if the ritual is done incorrectly. So you become food cause that is the only way for him to take the sacrifice at that point. I guess it could be courge based, if you aren't brave then you can't be a gods wife or survive being with one?
I guess the exchanging names makes him see her as an equal instead of a human/food? And it shows that she sees him as an equal too since she’s not afraid to say her name?
