    I'm excited to see what this game has to offer! My parents would often scold me and told me to quickly get inside the house whenever it's before 7PM, the moment dusk hits. Something along the lines that you have to be careful as ghosts begin to roam around at that time and if you're not careful, you might just meet with ghosts.
    Even as an adult now, it's still engrained into me that I shouldn't be out and about at that specific time due to habit.
    Edit: As a small fun fact, my parents also told me to never point out any stray animals in the dark if I ever see one. They say that they're actually devils or angels in disguise and that we shouldn't disturb them.

    Some explanations and fun facts from a Chinese Malaysian! (will edit this comment as I watch the video):
    4:03 "see lah", "aiyo" glad that they used Malaysian slangs in the game, though it may seem weird to foreigners
    5:30 "ah girl/ah boy" is how Malaysians affectionately call children. My parents and older brother call me "ah girl"
    8:55 I recently learned how to fold a yuan bao since my grandfather just passed away. There's actually another more complicated way of folding that apparently has "higher value" than this one. Also didn't even know they were called yuan bao, just called them "chinese ghost money" lmao
    17:01 Bruh Manly nailed that "haiz", sounded pretty Malaysian ngl. Also surprised that he pronounced "nasi lemak" accurately!
    18:53 That's normally how I want my nasi lemak, extra sambal and without cucumber. Don't judge me for not eating cucumbers Manly ;_;
    25:13 "siao liao" means "crazy" in Hokkien. Pronounced "see-ou (ou like in "ouch") lee-ou (again like the ou in "ouch")
    31:14 "walao" is kinda like "wow" I guess? But in a more annoyed manner/expressing disbelief. Manly pronounced it perfectly too
    31:29 "har" means "huh"
    Overall the game was very culturally educational, hoping to see more Malaysian horror games in the future!

    A creepy tale indeed, but also kind of bittersweet, more so on the sweet end to me. A nice, short story about connecting with family and community, both for the living and the dead. And learning about the language was kind of fun, even though I'm not good at remembering new languages (I was terrible in French class, lol). The subtle and casual presence of ghosts (not the paper doll ghosts, just the regular ones like the uncle) is a nice touch, like the ghosts have just come back to the apartment for a vacation, to catch up with their loved ones before they return to the afterlife. This game sorta reminds me of that one Chinese(?) horror game I played a while back, called Paper Dolls - both had the protagonists be stalked and attacked by paper dolls ghosts. Manly should play that game for the channel at some point, if he gets the chance. :o

    As someone from Hong Kong, I am surprised how similar some parts of our culture are to that in Malaysia! We too have Ching Ming and fold Yuen Bao the exact same way, and the way they speak like 'lah' are similar to how we do it in Hong Kong as well.
    I know that a lot of Hong Kong and Chinese moved to Malaysia back in the day and influenced the culture there quite a bit, at least in some regions, as far as I can tell from my trip there? Ipoh especially feels a bit like Hong Kong but in an older time, since a lot of people there do speak Cantonese as well. OF COURSE there's still a lot of differences and unique aspects, but I am certainly more interested in Malaysian culture now!

    I'm sure that the Malaysian English can be a bit hard to digest for English native speakers, as it is influenced by our multiracial and multilingual environment. Was cool though how the developers include footnotes for some of the terms used, and of course, the art style too!

    • @SKhadeejah
      @SKhadeejah 4 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      @Kiki M. Malaysia consists of three major races which are Malay, Chinese and Indian and other ethnic groups e.g. Iban, Kadazandusun mostly located in East Malaysia (Sabah and Sarawak). Our multiracial environment is due to British colonization. That's why you can see in the video there are Chinese (the main characters, the aunty) and also the Malay lady that sells the 'nasi lemak''. I guess the game's characters focused more on Malaysian Chinese as the game is related to the Hungry Ghost Festival , which is celebrated by the Chinese.

    absolutely LOVING the paper craft style, holyshit. also;
    17:40 I'm always happy to see let's plays about games lovingly crafted around cultures and languages I know (i'm malaysian), it's nice hearing you or other youtubers try to pronounce things- though I totally get what you mean, I feel the same, people can be nasty. when it comes to stuff like language and slang there's no point in being condescending.

Sound design and the addition of notes about some of Malaysian culture. I feel so invested by all of this because none of this was done on a whim. This was very damn nice. All the small snippets of the culture and language were rather interesting and really helped to set the scene, and the setting in this small apartment complex where people live in close proximity and most of them know each other just makes it feel very real and grounded (which of course contrast with the supernatural elements).

      It's the uncle's son.
      It's not clear what happened to the boy exactly, but his lower jaw is missing, his clothes are ripped apart, he's asking for candy & the offering to him is food.
      So there was probably a very heavy accident involving mutilation and food, leaving behind a partially restless spirit looking for stuff to eat.
