It’s kind of a long story. We first encountered three young guys headed south but needing to get off the trail. Later they turned around and caught us and we agreed to take the injured guy with us to Ref’s Meadow while the others went on. The kid was tough and hobbled on for 13 miles. By the time we arrived, his two friends had also turned back and eventually they all left together. But I will say that kid was tough.
Hey Rabbit! It's Tinker. We met at Holden village and hiked together for a bit. Glad to see you got your videos up. I finished south bound through OR to Dunsmuir on October 30.
The JMTer headed back shoud have taken the Duck Lake Trail out to Mary Lake then the bus from there to Mammoth (also cheaper as that bus is free). It would have been several miles shorter than hiking all the way back to Red's Meadow. My point being, always know your bail-out points just in case. That can be difficult with something as long as the PCT, but not something short like the JMT.

Woah , early July ? It means you hit my state a the worst possibly time . Washington was covered in smoke with the worst air quality in the world for a couple of weeks , yes it was worst than China or LA. Some were quitting in Oregon cause of the smoke but us old people are expected to go sooner or later so I know a little smoke didn't stop you.

The smoke never bothered me TOO much but it did spoil some otherwise beautiful views.
