Glad you got it working. It's the only way to deal with the bugs' variable range. As I mentioned when I originally suggested the booster, city folks (signal poluted areas) won't get massive range but will be satisfyingly improved and consistent.
I am all over this. This so far is the best range mod I have seen to solve the bugs biggest flaw. I run the exact same fpv setup as you do for this. I appreciate your video and testing this setup.
I put one of those on my Bugs 3 transmitter and my range actually worse, but I think I just got a dud. I got another one and can't wait to find a spot with enough space for me to run it out 500 or 600 meters. I have a 5.8g camera with an attached vtx mounted on mine so I won't be limited on my distance by my video feed! Great job with the channel!
It's amazing how beautiful you fly with your Bugs3, I bought one my self and I am happy that I can keep it hovering. It's difficult since I am meanwhile used to the Bugs2c. Anyway, I guess it takes practice and practice. Nice review Bro !
I think if you puce it with this new booster of 2w you can get to 3 or 4 miles, the only problem you have is that the fpv signal won't get that far. Great video bdw 😉😎💪👏
Very nice mod. I'm getting a out of range tone even 30 feet up in the air. I just did a similar antenna mod but I kept the original fake antenna and without a booster. Mount the connector just right behind it. I measured 59 mw on the output with a wattmeter.
Thank you so much for your helpful video. I picked up a white booster that looked like the one that didn’t work for you and I had problems with it. Today I flew my Bugs3 and it only went about 200 feet and it lost connection to the transmitter and fell out of the sky. I’m going to get the one you recommend on this video. Thank you!!!!
This is great, thanks for showing how to do it! What did you do to the Bug copter itself, if anything? This copter/controller pair is using wifi transceivers- 2 way. I can see you have power out of the controller boosted but what about the copter signal back to the controller? Low signal back from the copter triggers the beep, so why is that not happening? Does the 2w amplifier also boost reception from the copter? Man, I wanna DO THIS TOO!
Hi. In the video you test with an antenna that reaches 600 meters. but why don't you do it with the 2w Booster? how many meters would you arrive with that one?
Does it matter how long the whole wire is or how long the antenna and shielding parts are? Also, do you need to remove the coating on the antenna (the clear outer part) or does that stay on?
A month ago I got my 2w bugs (which used to be better than 3) but after max 100 meters (sometimes a lot less) it beeps as it starts to lose range and the wifi stops working. Even when the WiFi works - I see it late for something like 2 seconds - it's hard to do fpv if it does not really live. I tried to ask for help from the manufacturer-they ignored me. I tried to ask for help from the shop I bought - they do not help. You have an idea ? I'm afraid to open the remote control and try to put a new antenna
Thanks for the review! I did the same thing to my Bugs 3 and it sure helps increase range like you said. My booster is the cheaper 1s battery version though. Anyways - Will try this with my Phantom 3 standard next. :)
Hello Good Sir. It's 2021 and i still find these videos Usefull.. my question is....can i use an RG316 cable to connect it to 5dbi antenna, to mod my transmitter?? thanx for the answer good sirs.
Do you have a mod for mjx transmitter ? Can’t remember where I saw this. That instead of using regular batteries a mod for the use of a small lipo battery instead. Any idea how to do this ? Thank you Like your videos 👍🏻
About to do this on a bugs 4w4k. Do you know if the new transmitter antenna has to be cut to a certain length before soldering to the board? And the thin plastic shielding over the core needs to be removed before soldering correct?
@@RCEscape thanks for the feedback. This worked on a defective to begin with Snaptain SP510. Im going to do it on the bugs and probably boost it. I will make a video if all goes well.
wow RC Im sorry I did not see this until now. I did an antenna mod on a version 2 controller and got zero range increase if not less, so I order a dji range extender and it came with the wrong sma/rp sma combo so I too had to get some adapters.. and the result was it wobbled like heck and i got terrible range and a blistering crash..I gave up on that controller and any range mods all together after that.. I confess that I stopped watching RANGE MOD videos's after that as well..but back i go.. thank for posting PS did you put another antenna on the bird itself? and do you have a video of that mod?
Is that a dipole antenna sticking out of the bugs 3 - obviously using it for the camera or? Could you consider doing a video to add 2 dual band dipole antennas on the bugs 2W to extend the Wi-Fi signal from the bugs - trying to increase the FPV Wi-Fi range :)
The antenna is a transmitter antenna. th-cam.com/video/OJsK6ADzfmI/w-d-xo.html I'm not interested in modding the bugs2w but you can use a wifi repeater.
Nice Video I will definitely try it when my esc will came . I also received my eken h9r action cam but why the videos or pictures are rounded or curved is there any method to correct it.
Do these really work? I know albert kim tried it and got like 300 meters of range total. I see so many videos of the mod but none actually testing it until it drops out.
to all that have issues with this booster.. power the booster first and leave it for 2 minutes to warm up and then turn on the radio. max range i tested 1.1km
Hey buddy, all my parts came for my booster mod but i want to put a voltage alarm on the battery for my wifi booster.what volt you recommend i set it at for a 3.4v 700mah lipo?Thnx bro,i cant wait to see the results
sorry, somehow I did skip that part :) it was powered by a 7.4 v battery with a jst connector that was double sided to the back of the remote control :) after the test and flight, I did recharge the battery and it took couple of minutes to charge with a imax charger so it does not use up too much power :)
I did this model, and am having a lot of connection issues. Remote starts beeping in less than 100m and I get signal drops which have dropped the bug out of the sky a couple times. Any ideas why? I took the booster out and just attached the antenna and had the same issues. Thanks
you should be getting about 600 meters with the booster. you should see a blue light on the booster if it is connected and take another look at the internals of the tx to see if the pigtail is connected properly and see if the antenna is a good one so try several antennas and see if that makes a difference.
RC Escape thanks. I am going to recheck the pig tail but can you confirm that the pig tail wire should be soldered across both the + and - points? The pigtail is a single wire, not two, correct? I actually purchased this: www.amazon.com/Amplifier-Distance-Extender-Enhancer-Transmitter/dp/B076GKMC9C
I can't tell you if that booster is good or bad but the pigtail is a coax meaning it has an outer and an inner wire that needs to be soldered on the transmitter in two separated joints for it to work. I do show a photo of how it should look in the video.
RC Escape that's my issue then. I couldn't tell there was an inner and outer to the tint wire and just soldered the whole thing across both points. I'll try again. Thanks!
Albert Kim did the same mod on a Bugs 2 and used the same booster you are using here. His rang test did not go as well as yours. Think he was only able to get 300 meters with the booster. Lol. That’s less than with the stock set up. How could this booster have such a difference in range ?
Rc Drone Bugs2?? It gets 1k meters by itself, no? Maybe he got a bad unit. I just done a test on the bugs 3h and it got really great range. Video coming soon.

It seems like the bugs rx. antenna shouldn't be clipped underneath. If you mounted it vertically and kept your transmitter antenna vertical you shouldn't get any dropouts. The RF comes out in the shape of a doughnut with the center being very weak and hollow. If the two antenna tips cross each other at distance you get a drop. I just started reading about rc antenna placement and found that interesting. When you did the first antenna mod, sticking it out of the transmitter vertically, it would have went further if the Bugs rx. antenna was vertical. I saw it here www.rchelicopterfun.com/rc-antenna.html I wonder how far it would go with the Booster : )
Super cool test. The Bugs is performing fantastic. What dBi did you mount on the booster? Last week I did some extended ground tests and the range (without boosting the signals) were also beyond expectations...

I was doing to do a long distance test today with the other BUGS 3 that i have but with the TX03 camera and i got to my spot i realized i forgot to take 1s batteries for the camera...I just cannot believe what a Stupid mistake i did and lost it...i was on my last battery which had about 90 seconds flight and it would of start to beep and the battery of the google went.....i cannot believe i lost the best camera for FPV after 12 flights with it....i am sticking with the TX03 they are not as good but i do not care.
Great video. I just recently added the pigtail and antenna and haven't noticed much if any difference. I've just ordered the booster and look forward to giving it a try. I'm a subscriber now I like the relevant content you have. Stop by my channel take a peek cheers

Pete your a wealth of information!! Work's on the Visuo 900s, and 812?
Oh took adivice...got the bugs3 50 dollars...
Does it matter how long the whole wire is or how long the antenna and shielding parts are? Also, do you need to remove the coating on the antenna (the clear outer part) or does that stay on?
I'm not sure on this toy grade tx and it works just fine but on say the taranis, which I want to mod, has a set length.
RC Escape did you fly it with the new antenna without the booster? Just curious if it's worth the mod without a booster. Thanks!
There's a significant differrence with and without the booster :)
RC Escape what about before and after the antenna mod? Without booster
Adam Tolli
I didn’t see a drastic improvement with just the antenna but once the booster goes on, it is night and day!

correct :)
Nice! what are the chances of you solving the short FPV Wi-Fi range on the bugs 2W using the existing 5G Camera - somehow modifying the bugs itself?
try using a wifi repeater.

You’ll have to know your where abouts when you fly without telemetry :)
Can i do that for the wifi fpv camera somehow?
you can up the vtx power :)
