I like when I am looking for a video that I haven't been able to previously find and see that some goat uploaded in like a month ago for the culture. Thank you.
Def doing another double din in my ls e36. I did the cheapest one in my old dakar 328. Which was actually pretty good for the price. Under $50 for everything.
You're absolutely correct. Those splices you use are perfect for the job (as long as you use the correct tool). In fact better than soldering. As those crimped joints cant and wont fracture under vibration. Hence, as you say why NASA use them.
Dam man. I feel like such a schmuck not trying to address my window regulator issue on my m and here u are doing this. Thanks for the motivation and nice work.
The reason people hate crimp butt connectors isn't because they don't work... it's because they don't work long term. Properly soldered and heat insulated wiring jobs should last 30+ years.
Bmw crimps and solders the power and ground cables in our e36s 🤷🏼♂️ I usually solder but I think the reason they don’t recommend the soldering is since most novices really don’t know how to do a good clean solder and as a precaution it’s better to crimp than to end up with a potential cold solder joint that is prone to cracking so if you can do shinny clean solder then no it won’t ever Fucking let you down. I got 20+ years of soldering under my belt 😅
Hot glue gives in hot climates. I prefer to use an alternative which doesn’t set nearly as quick as hot glue but you just gave me a great idea of using the hot glue as a tempeoeary holder while the main glue, the “E6000” dries! It has flexible properties and is using in car audio speaker building all the time actually
Hey btw you could make it even nicer now. They have the climate control panel which you replace the entire face of your digital control and it’s a square ac faceplate 😊
FYI. You are not meant to do solder connections in a car they can crack. Crimp + heat-shrink is correct... Also you do not need atoto. Just get "carlink" and plug it into the USB in the back. It will connect it wirelessly..
Would love to show you what I have done with my E36 radio...utilizing a Sony XAV-AX7000, backup camera. Struggling with the HVAC relocation as the unit is too long and doesn't fit in the back as it hits the heater control box whether I place it above or below the obc. I did get a 3d-printed bezel to surround the double-din unit and 3-d printed bezel for the climate control unit which squares it up in the lower area. Just that heater box seems to be a problem. Not sure what options I have to make it fit.
Matt getting an E36 in a week or so, have you ever considered doing this for other E36 owners who are less mechanically savvy? By the way beautiful car and really nice work
YESSS ! I remember the first install video I saw and left a comment on it saying they make a perfect frame for it now! This is motivation for me! I’ve been redoing my sound as well and ran cdt components 3 way front and kept the rear 6x9 shelf woofers all being powered thru a Steg dsp amp 🤌🏼 and using a kenwood excelron single din but I’ve been wanting to version 2.0 it myself like you’ve done 😁 Ps bavsound is a rip off!
if your disappointed with your sound system I recommend investing in some decent-sized tweeters and a low rms sub that can hit lows. Trust me even if it isn't the nicest stuff that will really get the high and low range that most car systems just miss completely.
Great video! Good tips and nice to know to get the thin double den receiver. Love to hear it run!!! Sounds so nasty!!!! Thank you for making the time for the e36 vid.
I’m about to get a 97 e36 328i and it has a somewhat updated single din (kenwood) but I definitely want to get a double din touchscreen with Apple CarPlay. I’m not following the video too well and a lot of the links are no longer available, any suggestions on correct upgrades?
Awesome video and excellent job. I'd love an e36 but I could not do without a proper screen. They and the dash totally transform a really old car to be so much more modern and usable.
There are “self soldering “ / “ solder seal” connectors . It’s like a butt connector except better. We use them and haven’t had any issues. Amazon, is where we got them from 🤘🏻🤘🏻
@@matt13ross they’re definitely not any worse. My buddy and I used them ( no other connectors ) on his obs blazer swap, haven’t had any issues as of now. Doesn’t have a bunch of ride time yet, tune comes last week of this month, so I guess we’ll see as it gets driven. But whatever your preference is go with that I suppose. (Just wanted to mention it in case you haven’t heard of them before)
Looks good. Sorry I did not send pictures, but I have no email address for you! The surround for the 2din is what I did but I made it myself with bondo - they probably got the idea from me! It will take 10 minutes to fit the bigger stereo, let me know if you need instructions. The climate control is iffy. The better way would be to remove the faceplate and add corners to it so it looks factory. Takes 30 minutes. Are you going to put the OBC in? I can show how I did it if interested (I have 3 or 4 spare 18 button obc with pixels you can have if you need one - one is missing pixels and I do not know which one so can't sell them) Do not want to go too much into stereo component selection here but the Bav Auto speakers are meant to be used with the stock stereo/amp only. Since the stock system is not that great/powerful they will never sound great. Do not know your setup but if you are running the high level speaker outputs to the wiring in the car that goes to the stock amp without using line level output adjusters- not good. I see everyone make that mistake. The stock amp is meant to take 2-4 watt input/channel and most head units with amps are putting out 12-15 watts/channel. You would be overloading the amp, which if you are lucky will eventually die on you from being overheated. If you are not lucky there is the chance it will catch on fire, rare but possible when you overload electronics.
I am working in getting the climate control to fit in the lower area but the heater box is in the way and prevents my 3d-printed bezel for the climate control from sitting flush. suggestions?
@@matt13rossI’ll be sad when you are done with the 996 someday. One of my favorite video series on TH-cam. I stop everything when a 996 video comes out. Despite me hating yellow, I love this
That's not just you, the auto focus on my big camera lens is kinda loud. The only way to fix it is to get a different lens but good ones are awful pricey.
I've got an external mic but it's mounted on top of the camera. I've thought about getting a wearable one but that's just more stuff I have to have charged, setup, etc with every video.
Ahhh bro I wouldn’t use that deck even if it was given to me for free lol that atto sound is terrible I’ve done an install for a customer is a downgrade

The E36 videos are what brought Me to the Channel Originally! Stayed for the Porsche
Thanks for sticking around!
Nice to see a video with the E36 again 👌
Hope you enjoyed! It's just hard to focus on this car when the views usually aren't there.
The panning time lapse during the wiring is an awesome video touch!
Thanks! I've been using a little track system for my GoPro time lapses for a few months now, pretty neat!
Awesome job on the install as well. I’ve done a lot of projects like this and they are fickle!

I've never had an issue with one. I've heard of solder getting brittle and cracking after a while though.

You have to shave a little bit off the back of the CC
I have a case that I cut which. Would definitely serve the purpose. Did you CC control sit flush?
Pretty close to flush yes
I shaved my CC all the way to the blue connector and still touching the heater core box..any luck or tips ? Thanks
Love the video and thanks for the shoutout! Can’t wait to finish up that super secret project! 🤫
Gonna look awesome!
Those Arc 8s look great! My dad had them on his e36 M3. I wanna get the FL-5s for my e39 540i

Solid idea! But I don't think my phone fits completely in there.

You're correct on both accounts!
Seems a lot of effort for something I'd never use in an ls swapped e36.
I'd drive everywhere listening to the sweet sound of v8
