      @@APS-yo8oy Yep exactly! I tried HDZero and didn't care for it, as it was marginally better than analog. If you are flying quads than I can absolutely see the advantage as even a bit more res is better than analog especially when navigating gates at 70mph, but for fixed wing it's a hard pass. I have flown the same 90mm Viper with DJI and a custom FC from Blackstar and this summer converted it over to a FC with Walksnail and INAV as I like the OSD better and INAV is just more capable. I absolutely disagree in regard to the latency argument and would counter the only time it would be important is during takeoff and landing, which on a Viper 90mm is 30-35mph so a non issue.

    Great visualization of the latency with the tape measure - brilliant actually! I've never thought of it that way until now.

    • @APS-yo8oy
      @APS-yo8oy 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      If your brain can feel 25ms of delay you’re not human. I’d take a tiny bit of extra latency in trade of superior range, penetration, and superior video quality. Pilots have been installing the DJI air units with head tracking for years. This isn’t anything new

    • @Drew_Pearson
      @Drew_Pearson 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      @@APS-yo8oy I've been using DJI for a few years now and the latency -vs- analog (for example) is 100% noticeable and I doubt many with experience in both would argue that. HDZero latency is about as close as you can get to the analog experience (on paper at least - I've never used HDZero personally). Every little bit of latency reduction helps and adds up - whether that be latency in the video system, RC link, etc. Optimization of latency absolutely can and will affect reaction time. As you pointed out, there are tradeoffs and different people prefer different setups for different reasons. I think it's great to have options.
      PS : My original comment was about the cool visualization of latency.

    Nice video. Some criticism to the tape measurement though: iirc the 3ms latency is only achieved with the nano 90 camera (540p90 mode). However, the setup states it uses the micro v3, which only has the 60hz and 30hz modes. So the calculations and measurements and what you actually do are somewhat off.
    Also, the 3ms are only first pixel latency. I'm not entirely sure if the 30ms on DJI are also first pixel (never flown DJI). But if it's full frame, I'd call the comparison ... lacking.

    • @RyanQuellet
      @RyanQuellet  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      3ms is the latency of micro v3. Nano 90 is actually as low as 2.5ms. All latency measurements for all video systems are first pixel change, not whole frame. Since video is continuously updating from rolling shutter cameras, this is the proper measurement

      I don't know if you noticed, but this dvr video is hdzero. It looks nothing like analog and you'd be hard pressed to find people that say this dvr footage is analog. Lots of us do fast 100mph passes 2-3ft off of the runway (it's fun). Please do not attempt a maneuver like this with 4.5ft of delay on a system like O3 - it is dangerous to people that might be picking up a plane on the runway and a last second correction is needed. 4.5ft is a fact, it doesn't change based on our experience (sorry)

    • @afterburnerrc6333
      @afterburnerrc6333 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would NEVER fly fast at 2-3 ft above a runway near pilots as that’s just irresponsible. All fast flying is done well away from any people or runway so not concerned. If you are worried about making a 4.5’ correction at 120mph then you are already behind the reaction curve. I did really enjoy your video though and your setup is pretty awesome.

    • @RyanQuellet
      @RyanQuellet  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Safety is important for sure. I've had a near miss before, so it's on my mind. Still, we all fly our jets fast and low to the runway - especially line of sight guys. This is no different (mostly)
