minimum 80 mph for MLB position players. min 90 mph for pitchers. done.
p.s. as for the microphone, that's like some kind of 'equalizer issue', and 'closeness to the mouth' (square of the distance affects volume)...of course, experimenting with a new microphone might work too. or, just talking louder - which isn't so easy; because it's a habit - and, you want comfort.

My crowning achievement was getting invited to a Braves scouting camp (Canada, they round up prospects for a makeshift combine style event). I could only throw 84 and didn’t get much attention. I was only 1 of 3 position players, everyone was a pitcher or catcher. It’s amazing how good I thought I was but I was sooo far behind actual elite players, lol.

Thanks this was really helpful. My son is a freshman in high school and he wants to set some goals, and knowing D1 velocity is one of the good measurements. I like how much you talked about the other pieces needing to fit as well though. The fastball looks great right now but its his change-up that's getting the outs.

It’s hard to throw upper 80’s and low 90’s in high school. Very few players do it. Most will end up injured from attempting too. I saw so many D1 guys in highschool throw upper 80’s and they ended up blowing their arms out by the time they graduated high school. They were never the same… by the way… MIAMI COMMITS, UGA COMMITS AND GT COMMITS.

Height matters but it is not the end all be all. If he can command all of his pitches he will be fine.
