I know this isn't related to baseball or mechanics... but if this is your son, great job. Awesome job at investing into his life and patiently teaching him the fundamentals. Not only is it quality time but also making some memories that he will hopefully one day teach other kids or his own kids! I also liked the progressions you walked him through. Working on turning the hips to generate power versus using all arms and not turning the hips. Your hips should lead first, then the hands naturally follow.

so came across this a year later getting my son into baseball he is 7..how do i go about with bat weight do i where its lighter im guessing basically first time swinging a actual bat not the wiffle bats
Lighter is better starting out. I would look for a drop 12 or drop 13 if they have it. My son is 6 now and uses a 27 inches 17 ounces bat because he plays USSSA (travel for 7U). He’s probably going to want a 26 or 27 that is 14-16 ounces in weight starting out.
Just curious how old is Mike? When did you start these drills with him? I’m working with 4-6 years old am I’m struggling to get some to even swing. Thinking this could worknwell

It would depend on the situation. Most times at this age for the competitive teams like all-stars, their best player is at first base and unless your player can hit it over the first baseman, it’s an easy out if your player hits a grounder to first. But if your lefty is the third batter and you have a runner on third, then a pull hitter lefty would be ideal.
Having a hard time teaching my daughter to turn her hips and also to just let the bat swing around her. She keeps trying to just swing with all arms and trying to control it too much and slow it down.
I've learned to praise them for a good hard swing instead of for making contact. They will slow down their swing to make contact. Those are 8U softballs. I would not recommend hitting softballs with tball bats. There are some good training balls. For our 4-5 year olds, we use a Diamond ball compression 5. For 5-6 years old we used the Diamond Balls Compression 10 (similar to a hard ball). Our Pony league also limits the kids to USA bats.
I dont think we are the ones to say the kid isnt having fun…he could just be quiet while his dad/coach is speaking for the video…lets not be so quick to make assumptions 🤷🏻♂️
Typical microscopic attention span for this age child. Yes it comes across as too much at one time for him. But keep in mind that dad was trying to make a video, not run a practice session for him. I thought the kid did a great job!! If he doesn't burn out by age 14 from being pushed too much he'll be a great player!

I'm not sure what is meant by "hip extension". After the linear stride, the hips rotate beginning at toe-touch. The term hip extension is new to me!
