I am a HOG member as well. Have gone to a couple rallies annnnnd agree with your assessment. Seeing the demographic at these rallies has me concerned for the brand itself because it won't be long before they won't be able to ride, won't be purchasing new bikes, and will likely be flooding the market with used bikes. Trouble ahead for Harley. The same issue is happening in general aviation. Kids these days, ;)
When I lived in California I was a Hog member for about 11 years. I became an officer and volunteered for events put on by our local dealership. It was ok but as I got older and with Covid going around I eventually left Hog. One thing is to be a local Hog member you have to get the national membership and then the local membership (both cost). I used to enjoy the 3 Hog magazines they would send me every year but when it changed to the Enthusiast it went to 1 magazine a year and that was more like a catalogue. They would tell you to go on line for additional magazines (which I did not like). So, at this point in my life (I am 68), I am no longer a member. Good topic.
I think it really makes a big difference where you are. Around here we most likely don’t have as large an amount of members as in other places like the southern states. It’s definitely good to hear from folks with experience in the group. 👍
Great videos. You may want to do an update, Harley-Davidson changed the whole HOG membership program for 2024. Also I think many riders get confused that Harley-Davidson HOG membership is different than a local chapter HOG membership sponsored by a dealership. They are to separate entities. The Ladies of Harley are badass and don’t all ride Sportsters, my wife started on a Softail Standard and now rides a Road King Special. 😂
thanks for your videos, enjoyed each one, first time watcher today, Im on the other side of the planet down under, got invited into Hog when it started here in about 90, I was on my first harley fxr, did a few rides, and enjoyed the chrome, but im much like you, always loved to ride to get away from everything and everyone basically, except for rare occasions! so I never stuck with it! occasional gf, wife or buddy rides, but 99 percent solo! I keep thinking of joining every time I got a new hog, about7 now, then I think of where and when I lke to ride, where an when I like to stop or turn off somewhere , all of which uy cannot do on organised rides! I dislike meetings, even though Im retired now, I still cannot get myself to rejoin, and as you said with everyone pretty old , it just reminds me of age, whereas by myself I forget about it! anyway, I like your content, youve got a talent, keep up the good work, and good luck with your next bike, sounds like a fat boy, heh heh, cheers!
Good to hear from the folks down under. I’ve always wanted to visit there but I’m not sure I could do the plane ride. And you’re probably right, my next bike will most likely be a Fatboy, haha! Thanks for viewing 👍
Hey man. I joined due to a couple new bikes, but never joined a local chapter until last month; a good friend decided to get back on a bike (very nice 17' RGSpecial) and joined. So I'm like "I'll visit a meeting and check it out", and decided to join. Since then, I've been to the meetings and participated in multiple group rides, which is a lot of fun and a good way to tour AZ and CA in a more secure setting. Indeed, since you and I are GEN X, we're kinda stuck as baby-busters, so it's either 15-30 years older or younger, but I ave to say this group I'm with are a laid-back bunch that made it easier to fit in. Of course, like you, I consider most people annoying, and free air, without having to deal with them, is sometimes preferable 🤣
I have been a member about ten times from buying a new bike at different times...I have never used any of the membership stuff or bothered going to any of the HOG rides or events...just let the memberships expire after the free year.
Here in the UK, its the same rip off. Id certainly never join. Most UK members are Doctors, dentists, lawers or gynecologists. You know they change their bikes for next years model every year. They ride around in high vis jackets doing this One man drop off shit at every junction. They absolutely will not talk to anyone outside their group. All pig ignorant with too much money....
Not interested at least my local group. Found road captain to be a prick, high on the hog type. Like you said, some may like that. I prefer to be alone or once in while go with a buddy. We do have a local MC that has events and taco Tuesdays that I like the odd time.
I'm a member just cuz I bought a new bike. Do I partake? Nope. At least not yet. All iced in here already so the hogs and pigs and any other creatures of the same ilk are in hibernation. The magazine is sitting in a pile of my other enthusiast magazines...railroad stuff, heavy truck stuff and cupcakes. J/k on the cupcakes though I'd like a tasty cupcake right now. :P
Not for me I'm afraid! Pay to join HOG, pay again to join the local chapter, pay to get the T shirt, sweatshirt, badge, patch, etc. Get a 'free' magazine a few times a year that is 75% adverts for new Harley Davidsons. If it's your thing then fair play to you but personally I see no benefit to it other than making my bank account lighter!
I have been riding since I was 17 now 76 so I put a sidecar on my 2000softtail heritage springer rode in the ride for dad event about 120 bike after the advent at the meeting I was told some members complained about my riding skill😢 and I should go home and practice. What a bunch of fools.

That sounds about right. Harley riders and owners are seemingly slowly aging out of riding.

good afternoon brother you have any snow there ???? 55 here today in boston you take care
Good day. Not much for snow here yet which is strange. It’s been pretty mild so far.

Sounds like it’s a good group there. Another thing about the group here is that it’s small. I doubt we have as many motorcycle owners up here.

I have to say I’ve pretty much done the same.
the Hilton Hotel discount promised by HOG has been revoked by Hilton…
Uh oh..
Uh oh… 😬

That’s too bad. I hear the prices for the bikes are outrageous in the UK so it wouldn’t surprise me if you needed to be a doctor to own one.

To be honest, I’ve found MC’s have better events. Way more fun.

Sounds just like me. I have to admit I wouldn’t mind a cupcake right now too 👍
First year is free with purchase of brand new bike. Never renewed...found it pointless and nothing good of substance.

It’s definitely used to make the company money that’s for sure.
Gotta credit card??🤷🏻♂️😅
@@3RDOOR Yep, several! They tend to get used for worthwhile purchases! lol
@@veefour57 🫵🏻💪🏻✌🏻❤️👍🏻
I will NOT pay any one to ride my Harley. All they do is ride to eat / eat to ride.
I haven’t heard that one before, haha! Can’t really argue with that.
Not worth it have a life membership have been baned from riding with the group what a joke
