    I’ve been living in Budapest for 4 years know, and according to my experience, here is the best public transportation in the Europe in a price/efficiency rate, public transport is rarely late (hello Berlin), during the day, according to my own experience again, usually it is a bit faster to get somewhere you need by using a public transport rather than a car within the city, so great job in that Budapest!

    Some years ago Budapest took the world record in the longest tram with the Siemens Combino
    Then just to make sore Budapest doesn't lose this record, they ordered the CAF Urbos which is now the longest tram in the world

    A late evening In August this year I rode some parts of this line. From the Central Bus Station to a place near "Heroes Square" where I found my hostel One of the best places to spot tramways in Budapest is on the Buda-side where the Gellert Bridge connects ! Old school Ganz windling through the curves! But, my first tram-ride in Budapest was in July 1988 in a Ganz UV ! BUT ! I love the older rolling stock in both Budapest and in Prague ! Sturdy and very reliable !

    7:17 If they have indicators, that means they are considered "road vehicles" since they must be sharing the same lane as other road vehicles (cars/buses)... at some point. So they must have indicators like any other road vehicle!
    A lot of modern trams do not, since they are completely separate from the road. Great video! :)

    • @laszloharsanyi8320
      @laszloharsanyi8320 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is very rare that the tram line shares the lane with other vehicles, especially the main lines, like the No.1. (there are a few lines thorugh historic parts of the city, where the streets are simply too narrow for a separate lane, but that is an exception and it's not that line.) But it often turns from one street to another, crossing the lanes (like it happens at 7:17). That's when the indicator needs, like for any other vehicle when turning.

    • @NonstopEurotrip
      @NonstopEurotrip  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They can be on the road, but not sharing a lane with other vehicles, like pretty much all of this route, except the crossings 😚

    • @baksatibi
      @baksatibi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I should add that on some of the lines turn lanes at traffic lights sometimes share the lane with the trams. Also, emergency vehicles often use the tram lane, even if it's physically separated from the other lanes (with concrete bumps).

      @@NonstopEurotrip Line 1 is constructed from the 80s up to LRT standards (more-or-less), but many lines on the network still share the right-of-way with ordinary road traffic. Recently many such tracks got separated or converted to public-transport-only lanes, however there are still a lot where you can drive on the tramtracks.

    Before the extension, the line ran to "közvágóhíd H" (H stands for 'hév' suburba raillway in english) then it was extended around 2015-17 to "etele út, fehèrvári út" and took the role of bus line 103 which ran the exact same rout as tram line 1 today between "Népliget" and "Kelenföld vasútállomás" (trainstation). Later it was extended to "kelenföld"
    Interesting fact: tram line 60 is a chogwheel railway
    Another interesting fact: budapest has a total of 35 different tram lines today
    I know a lot about budapest's trams and network because I'm a huge fan of it plus I live here and travell on the network daily

    Thank you, nonstop eurotrip! I like trams too. Your video is very informative. We are immediately immersed in it. The 21 st century trams are very comfortable. In fact, as I always say, for a tram, the ideal is to do a "cab ride", you know a video where the driver generally films. But I know you don't have the right. Also, if one day, with the permission of the authorities, you can do a "cab ride" of a train, I would be delighted and you would have many more subscribers than that. I really like it all. Thank you very much.

    • @comandanteej

      Regarding the comfort, these tramcars are not that good in my opinion.
      - The doors are too far apart and it is difficult to get out of the inside of the tram
      - The seats are very narrow, two stranges are not likely to sit besides each other on the twin-seats
      - There is a lot of dead room over the bogies
      - The ride is rather bumpy in the sections that have the wheel under them
      The Siemens Combinos (which are 2m shorter and also circulate on line 1 at least over the weekend) are much better in all of these parameters
      Actually there are cab ride videos on line1, eg. th-cam.com/video/no2_EGAtf2Q/w-d-xo.html

I lived in NYC growing up, and the underground subway system was/is horrible, dirty NOISY, vandals spray paint grafitti EVERYWHERE inside and out on the trains, stations etc and there's NO upholstered seats because vandals destroy them. Unlike the trams, the NYC subway fare is controlled at all station entrances, so you pay there and then go to the platform for the train.
